I Had an appointment with Mavis this past Saturday 04-30 where she groomed my 9 year old Brussels Griffin.she arrived on time and took aprox. 3 hours.The following day -my neighbor called me and said that she knocked on Mavis's van door to inquire about her services and when she looked through the window-she witnessed Mavis strike my dog on the rear several times.on May 1st I spoke to Mavis by phone and asked her to explain What my neighbor saw. She stated she did strike my Theo serval times because he wouldn't keep still please but after she gave him a hug and a treat! This is ridiculous and I would recommend that know one use this women's services in the future. I will Be reporting her to the better business Bureau. read more

I saw the van in my complex parking lot today and decided to go up to it to ask for a price brochure to book an appointment.. Needless to say I DID NOT EVEN ASK FOR A PRICING BROCHURE because when I walked up to the window and attempted to get the lady's attention by saying ma'am I watched her repeatedly tell the dog she was grooming to stop it (which is fine) but then also repeatedly slap the dog on the face every time it flinched or moved its head while saying "stop it", it was not just one time or two times it was in a mean demeanor and continuously.. I instantly stopped trying to get her attention and walked away. I would not want my dogs treated like this for minor behavior which is normal when they are getting trimmed or bathed. Since we live in LA they send photos to show us what a fantastic job of grooming Missy gets. Never an issue or problem. Prompt and efficient. Mavis is a very nice person. Something is very wrong; however, with the way she grooms. I am currently in a leg cast and cannot drive, so we needed a mobile groomer for our two Miniature Schnauzers. Unfortunately, I did believe most of the reviews here and now am sad that I chose her to do this. First of all, she was not helpful in getting the dogs to the van...I told her several times before booking that I was in a non-weightbearing leg cast and needed help. She was not helpful at all...it was a huge struggle for me. Secondly, I gave her a picture of how we like our dogs to be groomed and she went to work on the first dog. When our first one was done, he looked HORRIBLE. I was shocked. We had yet another conversation on how our dogs should look, and she took our second dog. Ten minutes later she brought him back and said she could not work on him. She said he was difficult and tried to bite her...he NEVER has bit anyone. The whole time she complained about them being "greasy" and dirty and in need of a groom...hello! That is why we needed a groomer! She complained about normal little things that most groomers deal with because that is why they need grooming! Our dogs were no worse than they normally are 8 weeks after a groom. So...now I have 1 dog that is groomed very badly and 1 dog that needs grooming. The dog that she gave up on is the alpha, so what happened? He started attacking my other dog really badly...they are brothers, but this was completely different and mean. So here I am, stuck at home not able to drive with one dog attacking the other. Thankfully my neighbors and extended family are so AWESOME that they were able to help me get him to our normal groomer (Classy K-9 Clips) that afternoon and get him taken care of. I agree with Unhappy C. Mavis must be the old school type of groomer who is not kind and nice to the animals....Dogs KNOW when a human is not nice and they do react...as they should. Perhaps it is time for Mavis to retire. read more

It's been two years since I wrote my last review of Bubbles & Bows and I have not changed my mind. I am convinced that Mavis is the best dog groomer in the San Diego area. I know for a fact that her van is the cleanest. Sometimes, while she's grooming, dogs will have accidents. Mavis takes it in her stride. She chloroxes everything, and then begins again I know this because my dog had an accident when she was a puppy. Actually it happened on more than one occasion, yet Mavis was still smiling when she handed Noodles over to me. Come to think of it, Mavis is always smiling. Another good thing about Mavis is that she bends over backwards to please everyone. She will tweak my dog here and there until I am a happy camper, and I'm sure she does the same for everyone. Usually my dog's already perfect, but Mavis always asks if I see anything that needs fixing. The bottom line is I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that Bo and Sunny, who live in the White House, be groomed by Mavis. read more

When it comes to groomers, just like hairstylists, or any other service provider, doctor, dentist, whatever, it takes years to find one that you feel you can trust, who understands what you're looking for and who actually delivers. As an NJ to CA transplant, it's been a journey building out a new network of go-to providers/businesses (in the last year i've seen my NJ hairstylist 3x, if that's any indication!). That said, Mavis and her Bubbles & Bows Mobile Grooming is a breath of fresh air :) She listened to how I wanted my 10 yr old Peke, Dino, and 6 yr old Shih Tzu, Oliver, groomed and was spot-on with the result. My boys look sharp and smell amazing! Mavis was sweet and super gentle with my pups, bathing and grooming them with precision. I'm glad I didn't let the one not so great review deter me, because I've finally found a groomer who is more than that really - it's pretty obvious Mavis loves dogs and takes her craft seriously. Very sweet elderly lady, but, she's VERY expensive! Maybe because she only does one or two jobs a day. Very slowly. She quoted me a price, then raised it $10 after she groomed my dog. Kept insisting on a "next appointment" and calls, even after I declined to use her again, based on price and overall experience. read more

Sadly, we had the same experience as others. Her vehicle was parked in our driveway and when my wife went outside to check on one of our dogs she saw Mavis striking him with the scissors she was using for his cut. When she interrupted her, Mavis tried to explain her "method" - that our dog appeared to be nervous (as if striking an animal helps). We've NEVER had problems with our dogs at groomers for all of the years that we owned them, which is 13 years now. We only went this route as a matter of convenience. I'm sorry I didn't read the reviews here first and still feel badly that I subjected my pet to this. She was apologetic, I will give her that, but nonetheless it's unacceptable. My husband and I have known Mavis for over 20 years as our dog groomer and as a trusted friend. Through those years, we have had five Miniature Schnauzers that she has meticulously groomed. She became very agitated when I told her I would not be changing my opinion of her service. I called her once to come to my house but before that i asked if she could work with a dog who would move around a bit, she said yes. She came and wanted to plug into an outlet and then when she started trying to cut my dogs hair she kept yanking on his fur under his chin. My dog got nervous and tried to turn around, she took it a step further by putting a muzzle on him. Then after a few minutes she said she couldnt cut his hair and she was afraid my small maltese poodle would bite her, through the muzzle that she put on him! She left without finishing and said she wouldnt charge us, as if we would pay her for doing nothing!! Never called her again. I enjoyed Mavis and for the most part so did my small dog. I heard her speaking firmly to him. She is in fact old school but my dog is good with firm and responds well to that. Mavis is such an excellent groomer with a loving touch - so much so that my miniature poodle, Kahuna, knows what her van sounds like and literally jumps for joy when Mavis drives up. Kahuna is 4 years old and Mavis has been grooming him his whole life. Mavis is very sweet and her van is adorable and spotless. She is also extremely professional. I have a Shiba Inu, a dog that only sheds twice a year, so when he "blows coat," as Shiba owners say, it really is insane! Mavis is the FIRST groomer who really reduced the shedding substantially! She is also very conscientious, follows through, and is prompt. Yes, it is more expensive than going to a dog grooming service, but if you need a groomer to come to your home, Mavis is the way to go! We had such a wonderful experience with Mavis! She is meticulous, really cares about your dogs and spends a lot of time working on them. We have a Bichon and a Havanese and neither one of them likes to be groomed. The Havanese is particularly bad and every groomer that we have taken him to has had a hard time cutting the hair on his head and drying him. Mavis was so patient and professional when dealing with him. She had to spend extra time with him because he's so difficult to groom, but she didn't mind and didn't complain. I just had my big dog groomed by Mavis. She pulled up in this van that is completely self contained, and quickly went to grooming my beautiful great prynees. Normally she doesn't do large dogs, but I offered to help with any of the lifting. I had no idea what what she would do, I had to trust her, but she did a precision cut all around her body. I recently started taking my new puppy, Hope, a Maltipoo, to Mavis. Mavis is absolutely wonderful; she loves our Hope and Hope loves her in return. I wish I had known Mavis years ago. Her grooming is excellent; she spends a long time with Hope and she comes out beautiful. And her prices are reasonable compared to other mobile services.
