He was beyond knowledgeable about his wine selections, and was so easy to talk to. You could tell how passionate him and his family are about this Vineyard. We tried so many delicious wines and brought home a few. We will definitely be back and highly recommend visiting this winery if you live nearby or on vacation. They also host so many different events here such as yoga, weddings, showers, charcuterie, events. If we lived closer, I would be a regular!

The winery itself is very charming and we enjoyed our time here. A tasting is $8 that comes with a wine glass, and not just the tiny little tasting ones, but a full size glass! It has actually become one of my favorites to use at home. There are a lot of great wines to dry whether you're into dry or sweet. The tasting we had featured both reds and whites. Some I enjoyed, others weren't for me, but I was able to find great wines to take back for my husband and for my mother. The tasting was presented by one of the owners, and he had a vast knowledge of winemaking and also some great stories! I was not impressed by the labeling, but this seems to be very common among small local wineries. For me, the presentation of a wine bottle is important not only for gifting but when you are enjoying a bottle for yourself. The Vineyard also has a small gift shop with wine related items, some of which were rather unique. On the tour, I was surprised to see thick plastic containers for fermenting the wine rather than the traditional barrels. I learned more than I expected to about a process I know fairly well. Overall, this was a nice local vineyard with some good options. I can't say that I would necessarily drive there just to visit, but it's a nice stop on a ride through rural Iowa.

Once they noticed we were there, we said it was our first time, so we just read the menu and did a wine tasting with cheese for $14. The lady said okay, sit wherever. We sat in the back of the tasting room, there was no-one else in the place, she brought the wine and cheese to the table and left. No explanation, no entry into their wines, nothing. First off the glasses were thick, like used for beer tasting? no ability to see the legs on the wine. But what was I thinking? I had my doubts just given the names of the wines... Ember wine? Dandelion wine? Marquette rose? I proceeded to start with the ember - a red-ish wine... not full body, lacked depth. The rose, had an after finish of water that just ran off my tongue, a good rose has a crisp refreshing taste with balanced acidity and fruit notes... this was horrible. Next up the dandelion? I'm only to assume it's supposed to be like a chard, but honestly I left it on the table. Should it be warm like a mead? Confusing. I'm from the PNW and we are known for exceptional 90+point wines and family estates, so I know wines, and whatever I drank today, was not it. On my way out, other folks entered and were at the check in and the staff was more than willing to walk them through selections of wines for tastings. Wish I had that!
