The bar has an insane collection of rare, exclusive bourbon that you can literally only get here. The staff are some of the best to represent Columbus and the Midwest in general when it comes to their knowledge of whiskey, aged spirits, and the art of crafting cocktails. This place celebrates history, hospitality, and the spirit of what drinking with your friends, coworkers or loved ones is all about. They have scotch, Irish, Canadian, Japanese and of course American whiskeys. As well as plenty of premium vodka, gin, cognac, tequila, mezcal, and rums. The food comes out very quickly and they have many shareable options and delicious deserts. The bar can get busy however the bartenders are very friendly, comforting, and easy to approach with questions if you're new to bourbon or drinking in general. Friendly to all ages and groups that want to gather for happy hour or schedule an event with their company, or just hang out and have a drink once you check in to the hotel. I am thrilled my friend introduced me to this chic downtown lounge. The building is stunning, the plush leather seating is stylish and relaxing. The bartenders are knowledgeable and well dressed; their industrial aprons paired with white collared shirts nicely compliment old banking and modern bar decor. The artisanal cocktails continue to sing the song, but I wouldn't call them the star of the show (this is more of a harmony composition). This my 4th time visit the Buckeye Bourbon House in Columbus, Ohio. After having good experience I visited twice during this trip to colobus and the lack of stock was ridiculous. They did not have much of a selection of their own distilleries, such as Middle Western Bourbons. no Basil Hayden dark rye, no Larceny, finally scored a Hudson Baby Bourbon. Seriously, if this is supposed to be a Bourbon House??? The stock must be adequate and you staff should know what is on the shelf and be able to talk about what they have. Our server had to walk back and look or ask someone. I was thoroughly disappointed. I don't know what is going on, however consumers will not shop, if you don't have what is on your menu. I'll be surprised if you are still in business when I return later this year. read more

Stopped in on a Tuesday just as they were opening. I visited for the awesome bourbon selection. Pour prices were pretty high across the board, but they have a few rare finds, no Pappy though. Cool ambiance. Great whiskey selection. The good ends there. In town for a wedding and I accompanied the grooms father there to meet up with others. When he asked if they had a brand of whiskey he was familiar with instead of offering an alternative in a helpful, polite manner, the bartender informed him in a voice for all to hear that the brand was "garbage ". The whiskey snob next to him chimed in with agreement. Wow. I proceeded to order up two Taliskers that I recall l enjoyed and we had another round with the others. The bill came and they tried to charge us both for the same drinks. Yep. Thus the meager gratuity left Takeaway is that if you are a whiskey snob you might like it here. But watch your bill. We were both married guys and weren't looking for a date but also there were few female patrons. In fact there were few patrons period. Maybe 14-16 on a Friday night. Trendy, but still a hotel bar. The experience doesn't live up to the atmosphere. I'd revisit if they upped their cocktail and serving game 200%. Overall, our whole group of 6 was really disappointed in the Buckeye Bourbon House! We had such high hopes! I'd heard from multiple people that the atmosphere was really great, but they simply didn't know their bourbon AND messed up drink orders. Both were true in our visit Saturday March 19, 2017. We had a really friendly waiter, but unfortunately, when one in our group wanted guidance as to which bourbons she should order for her flight, he couldn't offer any suggestions or help. When we've gone to a place like Curio or any craft brewery, the waiters are super knowledgeable about what they're serving. When you're entire bar is built around the idea that you specialize in bourbon, it's helpful when your servers can help people order or offer suggestions. The cocktail I ordered was AWFUL. The Lucky Strike was served tepid with basically no flavor and a weird texture. I definitely understand ordering a weird cocktail and simply not liking it, but this wasn't that. This was a poorly made drink. Lastly, and most disturbing, was when two of our party ordered THE SAME DRINK and the waiter brought two entirely different drinks (they looked and smelled completely different) and couldn't seem to tell the difference....he comped the first one that was wrong and brought the corrected drink, but it made us feel like the bar didn't know what they were doing, and the waiter wouldn't notice what he was bringing out. Which, again, at a craft drinks place, at least the allusion of getting what you're paying for is comforting, haha. The ambiance and atmosphere is really great, but otherwise, I can't see going back for such expensive beverages without the experience to match. read more

I was in town with a few friends for a large event downtown and had a few drinks at the Buckeye in our hotel lobby. Saturday night there was a large street party and the bar sold drink tickets for participants to use. We purchased tickets and some drinks at the main bar and headed outside to see the bands on the big stage. After a few minutes walked to the nearest beer tent to get a few beers, waited 20 or so minutes to find out that tickets we purchased at Buckeye were not accepted. Went back to Buckeye to request a refund on unusable tickets and bartender refused to refund my money. He stated that the coupons were only for use in their bar. I referred to the sign posted he said I was the only one who didn't get the message, laughed and walked away. No attempt at resolution was made. Unprofessional behavior is an understatement. This experience was a blight on the great experience we had with the hotel and its superior staff. Stay at the Residence Inn do not patronize the Buckeye Bourbon House. read more

The behavior of the staff here tonight was unacceptable and disgusting. I won't be patronizing this bar anymore. I was drinking at the bar at about 7:30 and a man and woman came in not long after me and also sat at the bar one seat removed. When the man went outside to smoke, he returned with another man, Fred, who sat next to me. Fred asked the bartender to see a menu, to which the bartender sarcastically gestured to the menus on the bar. Fred then asked about the burgers and what was on them because he couldn't see the menu. The bartender read what was on one burger. Fred ordered that one. About a minute later, the bartender put silverware in front of Fred and he said sorry can I get that to go? The bartender said "Yeah I needed to know that a while ago." The burger was well done. There no possible way he needed to know that. The inconvenience could not have been greater than walking back to the kitchen to clarify. Then when the food came out, the same bartender and another one, ignored Fred's simple and polite requests for ketchup, while they stood down the bar and talked to each other while staring at our end of the bar. Their expressions and behavior throughout the interactions were condescending and insulting. I have never been more ashamed to have been patronizing a bar than I was tonight. I work on Gay Street. It is full of businesses that support the community and treat people with basic respect as human beings. Fred was a paying customer who was nothing but polite and the staff here treated him like dirt. There's a lot of expletives I would use right now if it didn't violate the yelp guidelines. Being a new bourbon drinker, this place was absolutely awesome. The same sentiments were shared by the pro bourbon drinker that I sat next to. Derrick (our bartender) was an absolute 10 and I can't say enough about him. He took his time talking to me about the different bourbons, rocks, and droppers. He wasn't just there to tend a bar. His willingness to share his bourbon knowledge started my birthday outing off right! The decor is classy but it still has a laid back, modern saloon-like feel. Our office just had a wonderful event at Buckeye Bourbon House for our annual holiday party. Kezia was amazing to work with - great attention to detail and excellent communication leading up to the event. The space is beautiful, with nice options for sitting or mingling or playing shuffle board. The food was also a huge hit - the cheeseburger sliders were delicious, juicy and not overcooked, and the shrimp tacos were amazing and a great portion size for the price. For appetizers, we enjoyed the hummus and meat/cheese/pickled vegetable board, which came with plenty of options. Even with a group of 20+ people plus regular customers, service was great. The bartenders were attentive and the drinks were delicious. Overall, we had an amazing office party thanks to the team at Buckeye Bourbon House. We will definitely be returning! read more

Would probably give a 3.5. First time here this past weekend. Space is beautiful. Really great build out in an old bank.. soaring ceilings, well appointed. We didn't have any mixed drinks so I can't comment on those. We all had beer.. they were out of some selections and apparently no one there knew how to change over the tap. Ordered several appetizers while watching the game.. they were out of some selections and some of our order was missed each time. Food was mediocre. Would not come back specifically to eat, but would order some apps again for a pre- or post-meal drink. Weird crowd as it is in a hotel lobby.. some locals, some guests. My wife and I stopped in after a show last night. We wanted to check out what they had done with the building and the bourbon selection. We were pretty much ignored when we sat down as the bartender (Jake I believe) was too busy talking to what appeared to be his girlfriend. He was complaining to other bar staff about "a bum" who had come in with another guest that offered to buy him some food. He was quick to talk about the bars "zero tolerance policy" for such things as a customer buying a person in need ("Bum" if you ask Jake) some food. While serving no one but his girlfriend drinks, Jake got pretty angry when "the Bum" asked for ketchup for his to go meal. Other highlights from the evening include: Jake making fun of gay men as he and another bar tender compared their similar sweaters. Perhaps anti gay is another policy at the bar? Complaining to his female friend at the bar about customers and generally acting annoyed. Unless you want your evening to include listening to employees talk about guests and feeling like your an annoyance, I would suggest any of the other places in the area. One suggestion for a zero tolerance policy. Maybe one that says "no friends or co-workers at the bar." And if you want to talk about guests and your job, do it at another place when you get off your shift. read more

Drinks were delicious but service was not good at all. Does appear to be understaffed which makes wait time for drinks around 15 minutes. No table service so orders are placed at the bar, but this means the entire sitting area is almost completely neglected, especially of cleanliness. When we walked in there were at least 4 tables full of dirty dishes which were still never attended to until about 30 min after we cleared a table ourselves and sat down. Thought to order food but again with the wait time, decided not to with how slow everything was moving. Cool place with a nice atmosphere. It's a great spot in downtown Columbus. The bourbon list is excellent, but they are out of some of the bourbons on their menu. It was also a little hard to get the waiter's attention to order drinks as we were there for 3 hours and had the opportunity to order drinks perhaps only 4-5 times throughout the evening. However, although this seems negative, I think that is just what happens when a place is new and they are figuring things out. The manager/owner brought us out some free Japanese whisky at the end of the night because of the multiple whiskies we ordered that were not currently available. There are so many reasons to check this place out! The ambiance/character made a great first impression. Wow!! If they had recliners for guests to gaze at the ceiling while drinking they would never leave. The drink menu, with classy, and tasty, bourbon cocktails, and a wide range of non-bourbon beverages, worked well for our crowd. The Muffaletta was very tasty but it probably could have been called a hummus/olive platter since it was more of a deconstructed Muffaletta. BBH is an absolute gem. I've only been once so far but I was super impressed! Only a sometimes Bourbon drinker, I had a vodka cocktail (which was great-- citrusy and not too sweet), but I thought all the cocktails sounded good. They have a huge bourbon collection, and I definitely want to go back with some friends and try some of them. This is our second time going to the Buckeye Bourbon House, and certainly will not be our last. The atmosphere is refreshing is very unique- open air concept and not stuffy like other local bourbon bars. The seating and furniture is relaxing, ascetically pleasing, and capable of handing a large crowd while not being packed in like sardines. They have two large shuffleboard tables and a really neat vertical chess board fashioned out of bourbon barrels. The food is fantastic- notable plates include the pulled pork doughnut, brisket on brioche, and bacon wrapped meatballs. This is absolutely the spot in town to get very unique and inspired cocktails. Think old fashioned favorites meet food science and a twist of stellar presentation. We're looking forward to making this our new favorite spot in Downtown. PS- they offer valet parking through the Residence Inn, so don't worry about finding a meter! read more

We love the drinks here -- I've never had a bad cocktail and the bourbon selection is excellent. The space is absolutely beautiful and the varied seating areas accommodate groups, couples, business chats etc. The food is decent. But the handful of times we have been in, service is at a snail's pace. If you are going to drink more than one cocktail, you might consider ordering the second when the first is delivered. We won't give up on it because the quality of the cocktails is high and the surroundings are beautiful, but it's not a place to go if you're in a hurry! read more

Walking into this bar I was very pleased. It's spacious, decorated well with classy and comfortable furniture, and houses two full-sized shuffleboard tables. On appearance alone I would give 5 stars; however, the service was lacking. Although friendly, the service had trouble keeping up with 30-40 people on a weekend night; long waits for drinks and orders being forgotten. The bar would benefit greatly with a front-of-house manager and better training. Overall, I'd give it another try. read more

Stopped by tonight as they listed George T Stagg on their bourbon list for $18/pour, yet did not see a GTS bottle anywhere in sight. Asked about it anyway, first one dude started saying, "well we're new and trying to build up our inventory" then another bartender chimed in with a story about a corporate big wig party the night before (a random Tuesday in February)... regardless they don't actually have the GTS that's on their menu. Total joke of a "bourbon" bar. If you're in Columbus, OH go to Black Point or Curio instead, they really have the bourbons that are on their lists and aren't flat out liars. read more
