They loved the angle of someone living on a ranch in Texas and homeschooling their children. I didn't mind going along with that angle because everyone knows (or thinks they know) what happens at makeovers. My 2 front teeth which were missing from birth and the ugly canine incisors were about to be repaired! I was chosen and as I met for the first fitting at the lingerie shop for foundational wear the excitement was peaking. The bra fitting was lovely and so were the 2 new bras we were given. When I went to the next fitting it was for choosing clothes to wear for the photo shoot. They had racks of used clothing, shoes and jewelry to try on to decide just the look they were going for. I told them the only issue I had was because of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome I couldn't stand in high heels. My ankles wobble. They just ignored me and selected the high heels anyway. At this meeting they must have discovered the teeth I was always so careful to hide. They called me later to let me know I would have a car service pick me up early the day of the shoot and take me to a cosmetic dentist (Marc Lowenberg DDS) who would repair my teeth. When I got to the dental office he explained to me that just like Cinderella the teeth would be beautiful for the shoot, but would unfortunately dissolve in 48 hrs. The shoot was so humiliating because I couldn't stand in the stilettos...let alone give them the huge smile they wanted. One of the photographers was kind enough to hold my hand while I stood up in the stilettos to snap the pictures. They were furious I couldn't smile big for the shots...after all I had beautiful teeth now....never mind stand up! All in all it was an hilarious humiliating experience. That experience was 21 years ago. I never stopped praying for my teeth to get fixed. I had no idea when I made the appointment with Dr K by chance that she would be the one to fix my smile. I was mainly concerned that at 68 that I was losing all my teeth! When you have bad teeth the dentist office is the office of shame. I had tried one other time to get them repaired, but after the first $2000 dollars I spent on repairs of the back teeth I discovered the dentist I was told was in my plan was not. After that encounter I just kept praying and with COVID it was hibernation time anyway. So how did I get from Houston to Columbus and Dr K? My daughter became pregnant with Mo-Di twins delivered prematurely after intrauterine surgery at 13 weeks. Her husband decided to move back to Columbus & we moved with the twins at 3 months. Dr K Thank you so much for your skill and ability to give me the smile I've always dreamed of (and will not disappear). I'm still working on smiling confidently, but how exciting it is to know I can smile without shame anymore. For those of you afraid of stepping into the dentist office I highly recommend Dr. K. She's skilled, compassionate and patient. Never give up on your dreams.

Like other reviewers, I was told I would need several fillings (4 or 5); when I went to another practice for a second opinion a few months later, they said my teeth were completely fine and no fillings were necessary. The second practice pointed to spots on the X-ray where my enamel is starting to degrade, however, as they explained, drilling and filling is not necessary until the dentin-enamel junction is compromised, and preventing further damage is best done with flossing and brushing. I appreciate a preventive, conservative approach when it comes to my healthcare (as well as not spending unnecessarily), so perhaps Capital City Dental and I are not aligned in our goals and outlook, but to receive such drastically different perspectives on what care I needed was a red flag for sure. Another red flag at this practice was how much they push Invisalign, which in my case was suggested for purely cosmetic reasons; I never mentioned an interest in this, and actually am happy with my smile, so to imply that I need to spend thousands of dollars to "perfect" my smile is ridiculous and a bit insulting. When they mentioned the possibility of doing Invisalign to me, and I declined it, they mentioned it at least two more times (the hygienist and the dentist) AND wrote up a projected payment plan for it. I hate to leave a negative review of a small business, but I left my appointment feeling icky, and like the sole interest of this practice is to make as much money as possible, instead of priotizing patient-centered care. I searched all over Ohio for help with my right lower bottom last tooth. I was carrying dental insurance just on limited plan that was outrageous even after a dentist visit. I've gone through a very rough year, I was in the midst of a accident a truck passed me and next thing I know is the 2 cars behind me along with truck was all a mangled mess. I looked up as I was headed for an interview. I ran immediately to the Truck as I was hoping that with the faith In the Lord he would survive, I prayed for him and prayed and pray begging God to intervene for another chance. Well my faith was tested because he didnt make it. I was suffering even though noone knew. I didnt want anyone to see me weak because I had so many people his own family who knew nothing reaching out asking me questions because they werent given any answers. In June I was struck by a vehicle with full force which slammed my head against the seat and wheel. Well my head was stinging and hurting and My fiance took me to the ER the DR lacked in his care to see what's going on and just said it was a concussion. I've been referred to the cleveland clinic recently because Noone in Knox County is taking the time to care or follow up on even my results of the tests. I've been extremely weak I've had this tooth that has been making me miserable. I have been so sick and so weak I havent been able to do anything and literally have been so sick and weak to do anything but with the pain of tooth I held off because of no insurance trying tp do what I could to save the tooth. I searched and high and Low all over Ohio, I even was searching on the Border of Kentucky and PA and no help at all. I called 2-1-1, local churches, I've asked a couple dentists if they would set a payment plan. They all wanted between 500 and 800 down Even OSU dental clinic wouldnt allow me to set up a Payment plan. Finally I gave up. I would pop ibuprofen like candy because it was unbearable. I couldnt eat much some days at all. Alot of times I spent more time asleep because I was fine usually after Ibuprofen kicked in. My then the last month or so there would be times is was throbbing and I was in so much pain that I didnt know what to do or where to turn. Honestly I have extreme anxiety anytime I have to goto the dentist because I cant seem to find a good Dr who knows what there doing or they correct spot to numb. Anyways so I've been bouncing from dentists because I havent found one who is truly caring and has there heart in it for there customers. One night I was on my phone and I couldnt take it and so I was just looking for emergency dental care and I was just going to hopefully just find a dentist that would pull it and just be done because I know root canals are pricey and not only are they expensive they take alot of time to do. And I get very nervous because the last place who did my root canal it took her 3 hours and it was a nitemare for me and I felt every bit of the pain. So while calling around I saw that THE DENTAL CLINIC didnt have the little red closed sign on google. I called and was able to talk with Dr. Bradley Gilmer and told him the situation of the tooth, He gave me an option since I am currently on disability and my dental kicks in on June. HE ABSOLUTELY got me in immediately. He knocked the underlying major reason for the pain and then when the insurance kicks in we will proceed with the ongoing dental work for the root canal. His staff is friendly and nice and they were all very caring and I felt a sense at that office that there really are people who care for others and care about there health. Everyday is a struggle and an ongoing battle but I'm clinging on to the hoping I have in Christ. Somedays theres just special people that remind you that they care. But it's sad that when you search high and low and noone will help. I've honestly fought such a hard battle and I've come to the conclusion. Anyone can have whatever they want of mine, some days I'm exhausted because the debt is piling in medical Bill's and even though I'm on disability it's still very stressful because Most often you cant get the care you need unless you have state health care cards. I'm so tired. I get weak and I am not well. The thing I can honestly say is Dr. Gilmer and his entire team are very few and far between. I pray for the fruits of His practice be richly blessed by God. When I called to find out why, I was told I was supposed to call and confirm the appointment myself. It's incredibly frustrating and unprofessional to cancel a scheduled appointment after I already blocked off my calendar and used PTO from work. A courtesy reminder is one thing, but canceling without even speaking to the patient is unacceptable.
