I'll start with the worst: in about three years of patronage, I've had one crappy haircut at Buckhorn, from a moody guy who was obviously either having a down day, or highly disappointed to see some fat grandpa settling into his chair of fabulousness. He nicked up my neck and made me look like Beaker, and there was no savin' it. Happily, I own hats. The rest of my cuts have been stellar. They last well (careful planning by stylists) and make me look about as good as my face can manage. I've been styled by at least five different staffers, and every one (with the single exception noted above) has been attentive, cheerful, and smoothly gentle-handed. I stumbled into Buckhorn when my wife and I were seeking a shop to cut off her long, sable hair in one great swipe, for donation to Locks of Love. Despite her having done that before, she was turned down by two shops in a row who couldn't accept the possibility of her overwhelming regret. "Ah ha!," says I. "A gay-friendly barbershop on Cap Hill will man up for this!" Indeed they did. Cut her remaining hair into a wickedly cute bob, while they were at it. They've been doing her hair ever since. Pretty soon, I started booking with Buckhorn, myself. Unlike my accustomed Asian nail salon/hair butchers, these guys (and gals) don't turn a short haircut into "military minus" and unlike the old-school smock factories, I don't have to endure racist and sexist tirades from angry senior citizens who feel automatic kinship with the short-haired white guy. Stylists at Buckhorn are smart, funny, and accomplished professionals. It's a joy to spend a little time there. Pro tip: the online booking system is a PITA, particularly if you book from a pad or phone screen. The hack is to simply call, and set up your appointment directly with the receptionist. This is less of a review of the barbershop and more a review of my stylist, Todd. Todd has been cutting my hair for 20 years. I moved to the burbs so now it's an hour drive to get my haircut. Parking is not great, and Capitol Hill is a bit of a hot mess but being loyal to someone that provides you a service does matter. As for the review part... the people are nice. The prices are reasonable. Todd is a great stylist. The other stylists all seem fine. They carry the hair product I use. They are easy to schedule with. read more

I came here once before, last year, and had no issues. I needed a cut and booked Michael based on positive reviews. I'll try to keep this straight to the point. The cut is decent and this shop is definitely up there in terms of value, but after this experience I will not return. I had my ear cut 3 times in rapid succession. I let Michael know by showing him I was bleeding and that he cut me 3 times. He put some ointment on it. Immediately proceeded to cut my other ear, making it 4 times in total. I didn't even bother mentioning the last one, I just wanted to get out of there asap. Getting cut is not what bothers me, it can happen. People can have off days, but there was no apology, offer for compensation, or much of a reaction at all. I'm just hoping everything was sanitized. But yeah some sort of acknowledgement would have gone a long way. I think my rating along with the context of my review and the 20% tip I still left is more than fair. If you're reading this review and on the fence, I still think it's worth giving it a shot based on my other experience. EDIT: Yelp keeps removing 2 of the 3 photos. Maybe because of blood? EDIT#2: The shop messaged me with an apology and a refund without me asking for it. I appreciate the way the business responded and will increase my rating to reflect that. read more

Happy with my barber(s) and the shop for the most part. Biggest issue is the 2025 price increase. Averaged about 15-20% depending on the service. I don't know about everyone else, but my income increase for 2025 was about 2.5%. Other issues which they have not control over is the area on Broadway is getting worse. read more

I was able to make a same day appointment with Christopher D., which is awesome! When I arrived he was just finishing up his previous client; another staff member helped tidy up while he was cleaning his instruments and he got to me before my appointment time. He asked what I was looking for and I told him what I usually get. I'm pretty picky when it comes to haircuts, but he took his time and it came out like I'd hoped. Christopher was kind of a quiet person, but he was kind and did a great job. I travel all over for work and don't have the luxury of having the same barber, but if I come back to Cap Hill I'd be happy to book with Christopher again. Went back and had a beard trim with Michael. Disappointed. He didn't even go over the stubble with an electric razor after doing a cheek and neck line, use a styptic pencil on nicks, or even clean up. Stick with Christopher for a 5-star beard trim. This is place is located right on Broadway very close to the light rail station. I've had two great haircuts here and have always been satisfied. The conversation has always been good and overall an enjoyable experience. They don't really post prices, but maybe because the price depends on your barber? I don't know for sure. It is certainly on the more expensive side for a men's short haircut but Seattle is expensive and they are good. Would recommend if you are in need and close by. read more

I've been going to Buckhorn and getting regular (monthly) hair cuts from Michael for the past 6 or so months. I'm converted and this is the only barbershop I go to now. Michael is one of the best barbers I've been to. Whether we are touching up an existing cut or creating a new shape from reference photos I leave feeling super satisfied, seen/heard, and usually with a few new music recommendations. I am genderqueer/trans with a pretty masculine haircut and have had unpleasant experiences at other barbershops in Seattle in the past; either being charged for "womens hair cuts" or getting weird looks from barbers or other clients, this never happens to me at Buckhorn. All the staff are so sweet and silly and I feel right at home. Because of my trust in Michael, I recently booked a color appointment with him to do fun funky highlights and he absolutely killed it. He is always open to out of the box ideas and able to help me realize a vision for my look that is better than I could have imagined. Booking online or via phone is always easy. The shop is unassuming on the outside, but I decided to get a haircut here with Case. I got a bald fade here for the first time, and it was surprisingly good. I was really pleased with the haircut and the dialogue with Case during the haircut. It's a bit pricey for the haircut, but I think that the convenience is well worth it. I'll definitely return in the future. read more

Came to Buckhorn for the first time this week and had a great experience. I appreciate cleanliness and mindfulness of COVID. I felt comfortable and confident that Michael was taking every precaution available to him. Like so many others I had 4 months of grow out. Frankly, I looked terrible coming in. Michael was easy to communicate with, detailed with the fade I asked for and checked in throughout the cut to make sure it's what I wanted. For the first time trying shops in Seattle and I'm very displeased. They were nice that day so who knows what kind of customer service they really have. But I showed my barber a picture of what I wanted. An hour into the cut he admitted he wasn't confident enough to execute the haircut. I also told him to keep the top long and he butchered it. I am not sure if he was confident enough to do hair in general. It seemed like they wanted to talk more and have fun rather than do a professional job at cutting hair. Needless to say this shop isn't qualified in my opinion to cut hair. I didn't have a very difficult cut to do as I have had many successful and skilled barbers do so. I do not recommend this shop nor getting haircuts in the city. Poor wait times and clearly a lack of skillet. read more

Came in and asked for a simple 0 fade, high & tight with tapered 1/2" off. Walked out with a mushroom head and looked like the North Korean dictator. I was assigned a guy who didn't know how to cut a simple fade. He asked for the manager's opinion to help during the fade cutting process. I even told him to follow the curvature of my head and ended up with hair that sticks out at a 45 degree angle. 10/10 would NOT RECOMMEND. A $45 charge for a shitty haircut is out of the world. read more

I have tried a bunch of other barbershops around town and this is my favorite place by far. Nick is my barber. Awesome guy, really knows how to cut hair, and makes you feel like you're taken care of. I usually get a fade and it's always clean and tight . Nick takes his time and makes sure you're happy with how it looks. The inside is a clean, modern take on a classic barbershop. They also offer straight razor shaves. The online system makes it really easy to book an appointment. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. read more

I've been to Buckhorn Barbershop a total of 4 times now in the last year. The first two appointments were 4/5 stars with a stylist named Mike. Mike took his time and was friendly. My 3rd appointment I scheduled online with Mike days before and received a notification from the shop shortly before my appointment that Mike wasn't available and someone else would be cutting my hair and asked if that was okay. I responded to the text message with yes and saw a different barber. The results from my 3rd appointment with the new barber were terrible. The barber cut my hair (shorter hair fade) in less than 10 minutes despite the appointment being 30 minutes long and there were a number of problems with the cut I didn't notice at the shop and had to correct at home myself. 10 minutes for a full-price cut that was something like $50? And the cut was bad? Yikes! My 4th cut was with a barber named Michael. I again booked online but forgot the name of the first barber I saw. The shop apparently has a Mike and Michael and I accidently booked with Michael instead of Mike. The booking website doesn't have any pictures of those two barbers so it was an easy mistake to make. I again went in for a shorter hair fade and Michael just failed to properly fade the sides with the top. The lack of blend is extremely noticeable. I even asked Michael during our appointment to re-blend the fade, but he must've misunderstood me and only re-blended a small section of the fade. I didn't feel like going 9 rounds with him on corrections and have just decided to not go back. I recommend you avoid this shop, but if you must go I'd only recommend Mike. read more

This place is great.. Super clean and inviting. You can get "just a haircut" at any barber shop, but Nick is probably my all time favorite barber. After my leaving Seattle and moving around Washington then down to California and finally back to Seattle, I was lucky enough find Nick again, it took a few years, but I gotta say while I thought he was perfect before, I was wrong. This guy is like a fine wine and only gets better with age. His talent for working on my hair and its crazy cowlicks has me once again looking better than ever. He always keeps up with the styles, and let's me know what I should change or if 'he's feeling it' or not, I've learned to definately trust his judgment, but he always listens when I want things a certain way. Drop by a new hair salon today and it was awesome. A short walk from the Capitol Hill light rail makes this super convenient for me and will be my new go to spot to get a trim. Made an appointment the same day, actually an hour before! Walked in and was immediately impressed with the service from check in, hair cut and check out. I met with her for a consult and she really heard me - when I went for my appointment she was prepared for me and had clearly put some time and thought into my color.
