    Before

I moved to Capitol Hill in May of 2019 and have been coming in about once a month since then. I've always had a good experience with Emily and the rest of the staff until my last experience. I had a very large beard and needed it to be short and professional for job interviews. My barber Ben Taylor did not use scissors on my beard once, did not ever lean my chair back once, and proceeded to give me what is arguably the worst beard cut I've ever experienced in my life. It was so uneven I had to go buy a beard trimmer and fix it myself at home. When he cut my hair I felt like he was taking too much off to which he replied that he was not, then when we finished I expressed that what he had done was not what I had in mind and his response was to tell me I should get better at explaining what I want, and it might not be what I want but it's what I got, then rushed me out of his chair. Never in my life have I had such a terrible experience with a barber before. Every other experience there was great but after this I will never go back, or recommend this place to anyone

    That's the hair.

I've never had my beard professionally done before, and figured why not. All the reviews pointed me to Scotch Pine and I booked with Tracy, which was sorta random admittedly as a choice... but now I have my beard looking the best it EVER has, with one of the best haircuts I've ever had, and a fantastically interesting conversation to boot! I'll be 100% back.

I aware that I'm not The Scotch Pine's primary customer. However, what I like about the Scotch Pine, and my barber, Paul Culala, is something that anyone can relate too: 1.) He takes time to understand the hair on my head: the way it goes and the way it doesn't want to go. 2.) He pays attention to my needs and the goals I have for my hair. 3.) He does excellent fastidious work that goes beyond my expectations. An example of above-and-beyond was when Paul found my part. I never knew I had a part, and why I might like to part my hair in a particular way. Now, I do less work making my hair look good. About The Scotch Pine: The Scotch Pine realizes that there is an experiential side of barbering which has to do with connecting to people. Instead of over-decorating and obsessing about the minutia, they've created a space that maximizes this experience. I hope they never forget this. "Welcome back to the barbershop, it's good to see you again."

Been going to Kojak for years now - nobody can cut hair like him! The shop has a great vibe and I always leave feeling good.

A comfortable spot where you are welcomed into whatever conversation is going on and you get a top-notch haircut from a great barber.

I had an outstanding haircut from Yoshi. I will definitely be going back. It was so nice to get my pandemic grow-out so finely tamed.

I literally just wake up and go on about my day with very minimal maintenance because Trent totally kills it.

It's come to this: the Colman Building Barbershop is the only place I'll get my hair cut anymore…read more I've had cheap haircuts and I've had expensive ones. Robby's shop falls somewhere in the middle, price-wise, but his work and his partner Madison's are consistently at the top of the list when I get out of the chair and get a look at what they've done. There's never that awkward "oh no, what am I going to do with this?" moment when you see it for the first time. Simply put, their cuts look fabulous, every time. As experiences go, the Colman Barbershop is fun and relaxing. You can go expecting funny adult conversation with a racy edge to it, classic rock on the stereo, a comfortable old-school barbershop chair to sit in, and a phone that rings like a phone, not an electronic tweet. Robby and Madison not only deliver a great cut, they have genuine fun chatting with you and with each other while you're there. And men? Go with the knowledge that you're not quite done when your hair is done. You've got a rare treat in store before you're all the way finished, a back-of-the-neck shave with warm shaving cream and a straight razor, followed up with a warm wet towel. It's a delight for the senses not to be missed, and it feels fantastic afterwards. So. It comes to this: get thee to the Colman Building Barbershop for 45 minutes of entertaining downtime, for good music, for a little nostalgia, and most importantly, for the best haircut you'll ever have. Call me picky, but I won't settle for anything less.
