Of all those I visited, Stouffville Creek had no competition. They were by far the most caring staff. It was easy to see that the environment was caring, friendly, and loved their jobs! When Covid-19 hit, Stouffville Creek was fast at butting their residents into self isolation. No visitors, as hard as it was. They are caring, attentive and ensure the residents are as comfortable as possible. There are a few rotten apples on staff but overall they are fantastic. They have activities for the residents, a tv room, an activity room, reading room. The resident Doctor is kind, very knowledgeable and available when needed. The staff is very friendly and caring and due to the language barrier, whenever they dont know what is bothering my mom they will call us so that we can talk with her and find out if there is anything that they can do to make her feel better. They always engage the residents in different activities, for instance, they decorate the Christmas tree together, draw, plant vegetables, hold music shows, paint vases, etc.... I can't say enough good things about this place, how effectively it is managed by Adrienne West and her team, how beautifully decorated . . . and how I'm treated like family although I'm the "daughter". The care team was excellent and supported my mom well past the time other places might have suggested she go into a nursing home with her Alzheimers. And to add to that - I live in California and they were constantly in touch with me to keep me in touch with anything and everything going on with my mom, far beyond their responsibility as a retirement home - because its NOT a nursing home. During this difficult and stressful time the team at Chartwell Harwood have been so amazing. Brandy, the manager, and her team have gone above and beyond to offer me help, guidance and a shoulder to cry on. If it hadn't been for them I don't think I would have been able to navigate the twists and turns that have confronted me this week. It is a shame my mum couldn't live here. The place is warm, comforting and actually a lot of fun. I truly wish my mom was well enough to stay here. I have no doubt she would have loved the fabulous apartment with tons of natural light and the easy access to restaurants, shopping and a Costco!!
