Sometimes you need to be a squeaky wheel, but when you do, you realize who really are good businesses out there, and that sometimes there are just bad workers. This is one of those businesses that is really a good and honorable business. I had used Buddy's many times in the past. I have 3 kids and a sometimes forgetful spouse. From getting locked out of my car, from being locked out of my house, from rekeying my front door, garage door, and adding locks to my house. They really took care of me over the past 3 years. Didn't ask for his name sadly but the younger guy with longish hair was super helpful, nice and informative on what he would be doing. Got the quote through Yelp for rekey service and they replied message super fast and gave good quote as well. Make a next day appt to my place and the locksmith Adam came in time and did rekey on my 2 locks in 10 mins. He took off 2 locks and did everything in his van including rekey 2 locks and copied new keys. Never have I ever experienced a company so disinterested in providing a service. Someone decided to very poorly pick the ignition of my motorcycle, causing my key to not work. I've called this company thrice since Saturday, and still no one has come out. To be fair, the dispatcher has been prompt and attentive, but there is some internal disorganization. I finally did receive two return calls, the first stated he would have to order parts (without confirming any details) and would give me a callback tomorrow, which was 2 days ago. I needed a new front door set that I had purchased at Home Depot installed. Buddy's Locksmith had good reviews and I was given a time that worked well at a cost of $125 for installation so I agreed to the service. The locksmith let me know that the new sets were slightly larger. Although the set was a perfect fit, the deadbolt was longer and the locksmith had to drill a bit and it would cost $175. At that point, the old door set was disassembled and all over the floor. I questioned it several times, not understanding why the service then became a "fresh" install but I would still have to pay the $125 for an install. I didn't feel like I had any option at that point since the door no longer had any handles or locks. The drilling took less than 5 minutes. I still questioned the extra charge, saying I would understand if the fee was $175 instead of $125 but didn't get a satisfactory response. After the locksmith left, we realized the lock was not completely locking. I talked to the locksmith who said he would have to drill into the wall to make it fit as the deadbolt was longer than the frame. I didn't want him to return so I then called a handyman, who spent about 2 minutes to expand the circumference but the length was not an issue. So, in essence, I felt it was a bait and switch. I should have been told the price before disassembly or charged for one type of installation, not two. I tried to reach Buddy's for an explanation but no one would return my call. I finally received a call from someone at Bay Area Locksmith, who told me I needed to talk with the locksmith. The service was completed but not as it should have been. However, my real dissatisfaction came from being what I felt to be charged for two installations when there was actually only one door set installed. I could have had a licensed contractor do the job for $150 but I thought a locksmith for $125 seemed like a reasonable choice. I clearly made the wrong decision. For this type of service, I would never use or recommend either company. read more
