He quoted me $80-$120 not knowing what he was up against. He arrived in about 20-25 minutes, gave me his ETA when he was about 5 minutes away. Adam was very professional and polite when we spoke, he brought a handful of tools and got right to work. He initially tried putting some inflatable bellows in the frame and tried to get a chisel in there to push the locking mechanism but with no luck. He also couldn't pick the lock on the Kwikset handle. He immediately didn't think he could as he stated they were tough to pick. Today I had called a locksmith for the first time ever. First they wanted all this information when I was calling in to get a rough idea of quotes. They told me their technician needed to call us to give us a quote. After he called me, which he couldn't provide a quote still, he said he was 20 minutes away and can provide a quote in person. We agreed to that. 40 minutes go by and no call or text even after we call and text him. Says he got in an accident on the way here. Shows us in an unmarked vehicle, no uniform on just regular clothes and no company brand whatsoever. We called someone else after he didn't answer our calls or text and told him we didn't need his services as we thought he bailed on us for not being responsive. After this he tells us "YOU COST US MONEY WHEN YOU CLICK ON OUR GOOGLE ADS" and had a rude attitude about him. He jumped back in his car and burned rubber and sped off in a residential court setting. It seems that finding a locksmith is a hit or miss proposition. Here is the good: 1. Called in. Reached an answering service. The locksmith responded. Came late in the day (longer than anticipated) previous job. I would rate a B. 2. Talked over the job, rekey 5 new locks 3 of one type, 2 of another to a single key. He let me know that he would have to take the locks to the office to make this happen. Very knowledgeable. Would rate as a B. (Would have preferred onsite, but understandable need for tools.) Initial contact was late Friday. He was back midmorning on Monday. Got the locks and made the changes and accomplished the goal I would give this an A. The Bad: 3. Price: I did not negotiate ahead of time. I just figured the price was the price. For 5 locks being rekeyed they charged $1600. This price almost equaled the original cost of the locks. I had another locksmith evaluate the work because I was unhappy with the work they provided even after spending $1800. They said it was definitely unprofessional not even the right direction. They did tell me that it could have been fixed without the $1800 upsell and the final lock position was supposed to be going down instead of up. It cost me another $300 to fix their mess.
