Popcorn chicken and corn nuggets

BIG NOPE! If you are headed South or North on US Hwy 63, you would be better off continuing to Kirksville MO (South) or Bloomfield IA (North) to get your grub on. Buddy's has clearly went through a change in Management and Staff. The food is absolute SLOP and it comes with an ABSURD PRICE TAG! I'm including a picture of the burnt popcorn chicken and corn nuggets my daughter and 2 friends received, AFTER they had come back to tell us they were out of chicken strips. With a limited menu you cannot afford to run out of one of your big sellers. All in 3 orders of the enclosed, side salad with chicken on it and a BLT totaled an even $50. SOOOOOOOO NOT WORTH IT

Plate sized home-breaded tenderloin cut in 1/2 and put on 2 5" kaiser buns with home made fries.

This is a nice little small town place, clearly geared toward serving locals over travelers. We ran across it traveling the scenic route between Des Moines, IA and Columbia, MO. Buddy's has a wonderful home town feel that is familiar to me from growing up in a small town myself. The floors are a little sloped, the decor has walls covered with new and old signs, the tables and chairs are mixed and matched. Keno is offered, but we didn't play. I. LOVE. The. Place. We were strangers, but made to feel at home by both waitresses who were on duty. We ordered Buddy's special #4, a "Big" breaded tenderloin, split for 2, with homemade fries. The fries are perfect, and the tenderloin is one of the best I have ever enjoyed - juicy, tender, perfectly crisped homemade breading, enormous (really not kidding, freak of nature huge). For us, it was food for 2 and then some. Plan on cash, or use their ATM with an affordable $2 fee. They don't accept plastic. Incidentally, we were happy to be back in 5 bars of Sprint 4g LTE data coverage in the restaurant. The full package: Great food in plentiful quantities Super affordable (the plate for 2 was a wallet sparing $10.50, and Pepsi was $1) Great small town atmosphere Over the top service In summary, we each ate about 1/3 of of our 1/2 tenderloin gorged on fresh cut fries, and were billed a whopping $11.50 +tax +tip and left feeling stuffed and happy.

Breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches as big as your face accompanied by a large serving of home made French fries

First off, I'm not a big bar patron. Why I gave them 5…read morestars. This place is calm. The staff is very friendly. There are 3 pool tables at $0.75 a game as a plus. They have the BEST Bloody Marys I've tasted outside of New Orleans. I'm not much on bars but this joint was fun from the get go. It's definitely a local joint but the atmosphere is very relaxed and not at all unfriendly. Nothing fancy, nothing pretentious. Seems like a come as you are, but come respectful. I'll definitely return. Just as an FYI they do not take credit cards but do have an ATM machine handy.

This place is more bar than grill, but it's still fun! It is small. The exterior looks like a…read moretrailer. However, the interior has pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, and a jukebox. They also have WiFi on request. The menu selection is not soul food. It is an assortment of popular dishes that can typically be found in bars. The drink menu is non-existent, but the drinks are plenty. One can speculate that the hard working farmers and cowboys who might drop in simply don't need fruity drinks... Liquor is minimally mixed. I ordered jalapeno poppers and fried mushrooms. Both were tasty, especially with the ranch dressing provided. The staff appear friendly. The bartender was helpful, but she did not have a bubbly and chipper disposition. This was perfectly fine for me. Karaoke is Friday nights, but I visited on a Thursday. This night wasn't one of the extras, unfortunately. All in all, this place is one I intend to visit time and time again. I'm glad such a gem exists in such a remote region.
