Unreasonable Cancellation Fee & Poor Customer Service I normally do all my booking and payments online and chose Budget Rental recently because it's close to home. However, I had to cancel a reservation and was shocked to see a $50 cancellation fee - on a $68 booking. That's nearly the full cost! I called customer service to explain that an emergency came up and I could no longer travel. My reservation was for May 10 and I contacted them on May 1 - more than enough notice, or so I thought. The representative was cold and unhelpful, simply repeating that prepaid reservations aren't eligible for refunds. No flexibility, no understanding. This isn't about the $50. It's about how poorly Budget treats customers. I've never experienced such a rigid policy or such dismissive service with any other rental company. I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on - and I recommend others think twice before booking with Budget. read more

I am a 71 year old man. It took a half an hour waiting in line to get to the Budget counter at Austin Airport. This was on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM, not during a holiday season. The Toyota Camry I reserved wasn't available. The Nissan sedan I was sent up two levels to in the building, in 95 degree heat with my bags, wasn't there when I arrived at the assigned space. There was no one offering customer service at the open air 3rd floor pick up location. I trudged back down to the counter, enduring the angry stares of other customers in the line who thought I was cutting in when I approached the counter again. I was re-assigned a Dodge Charger. I noticed a strong perfume smell when I got in it, which I thought would air out if I drove it for a while with the windows down. At that point, after a long trip and the ordeal of finally getting into my rental car, I decided to leave for my destination in Temple, TX, instead of going back for a 4th time to the corner of hell that was Budget's Austin Airport customer counter. The smell never went away and was over-powering the entire two days that I had the vehicle. I had packed a bath towel to protect a small piano keyboard I was travelling with, and later used it as a seat cover to keep my clothes from being contaminated by the stink - to no avail. The perfume smell was so bad it stayed in my nostrils after I got out of the car! I had to wash all my clothes as soon as I returned home, just to remove the lingering stink from the Budget rental car. Also,the Budget agent swindled me into paying for a transponder for tolls. He said I would be charged $12 by Budget instead of $16 for a round trip from tolls between Austin and Temple. Instead Budget charged me $28! Also, I stupidly pre-paid for a 3 day rental through a third party and brought the vehicle back after only two days. Now there is no way for me to be refunded for the unused third day of the rental, as Budget uses online third party brokers to avoid responsibility and cheat their customers. The Budget facility at Austin Airport is a disorganized scam outfit with no customer service and lousy products. I will never again rent from Budget there or anywhere else. My advice: Don't rent from a third party broker and don't rent from Budget! read more

Sam and his crew are amazing. It was a sad day when our uncle passed away and we need to go to his funeral from Austin, TX to Cape Girardeau, MO. We decided to rent car for this 12 hours 800 miles road trip (that was one way - doubled it for round trip). Traveling when the Arctic Front hit us was not an easy one. After make online reservation, we called the rental to make sure we can get car with four drive wheels. Sam went above and beyond to make sure we got the right car for our need. It was absolutely wonderful, the trip was scary, non stop heavy rain, foggy, snow in some places. But we made it to Missouri and headed back to Austin safely. Thank you! Second time renting from this location and the vehicles that I have rented were unsanitary and disgusting. The first vehicle had blood on the seats. The second vehicle was dirty on the inside and outside. Due to my business demands this location was chosen because of time and proximity. After speaking to the rude manager on both occasions he made excuses on why the vehicles were not cleaned and he stated he had no other vehicles available to rent. 3 weeks after we rented a vehicle in Phoenix Arizona , they sent a email stating they were going to charge us $789 for a cracked windshield. We drove the vehicle for 70 miles , it sat for 4 days and there wasn't anything wrong with anything, and they had already rented out so I let them know that they are not supposed to move a vehicle if it has damage until it is signed off by a Manager and then I informed them I used to be a manager for Avis, Budget , Hertz @ Austin Airport. The next day they said that they had changed their mind and weren't going to be charging us anything and I kept that email. Probably our first terrible experience from Avis. Pick up time was 10am. This location gets their cars delivered by the airport. Our van wasn't available (we pre-paid a week before). They called us and said it was ready so we hurried over from where we were eating. Then manager apologized because the van the airport location brought over was filthy. (!!!!) Took abt an hour I think to clean it....... it still had sticky spots, per hair and was just gross (see attached picture). They apologized, but were over crowded with others. We didn't have options because they didn't have any other cars available. I asked how we would be compensated and he said for that he'd have to call corporate and I thought he'd do that, but we signed papers and got keys. This who fiasco put us a day behind in our travel since our arrival time leaving at pick up time was already midnight. So upset!! Car return (update): I was told I picked it up at 1230 I could return at 1230. I get a class before 9am (rolled in at 3am from our trip) asking if I can return the van early. The place is 90 min from our house. The nerve... by now I'm awake and get there abt 11ish? I'm told it should have been returned at 10am. Which wasn't true because of my pickup time. They verbally said "oh that's right" we will give you a $50 credit. Seemed to offset only the "added day" from late charge, because I've not seen $50 deposited yet. I recently had some vehicle issues and was forced to rent a car. After booking online which was easy with pre pay , that once I arrived everything was ready and easy to get going on my way. Sam is the manager here at this location and let me tell you hes the nicest most customer service oriented individual I've met. Renting a car can be stressful at least being for me it was. Having to rent a car 3 different times in 2 months Sam was the same from the 1st time I walked in till the 3rd time. He treats everyone the same whether your a first time customer or a repeat he goes out of his to make the rental process easy. As far as the vehicles here at this location I got a newer super clean car everytime. They all had bluetooth, full of gas, washed interior and exterior. I recommend Sam and this location to anyone who needs to rent a car even if you have to go a few extra miles to this location its worth it. read more

When attempting to pick up a rental for which I had a reservation, the manager turned me away immediately because he claimed "he doesn't do direct billing" with my insurance company. This response left me without a vehicle to replace my damaged car and unable to drop it off for repair. My insurance company confirmed that direct billing would be an option with Budget, so through no personal fault of my own I was left driving a damaged vehicle. I am frustrated and discouraged from doing business with Budget anymore. The manager made no attempt to help me otherwise and poorly represented the company. read more

I rented a car last-minute today from this location with so much ease. I had a reservation through Enterprise only to find out they had zero cars in stock at either Pflugerville location. Slightly dubious after seeing their Yelp review but desperate, I called and Sam was SUPER friendly and helpful. I was under a time crunch so he told me which size cars he had ready to go and suggested I go online to get the best deal. I thought that since I was a frequent renter, he was just extra nice to me. But no, over time, I've observed how Sam treats others that come into the store returning or picking up vehicles. We have used Budget in Round Rock for years and have never had a problem. Today, we returned a car and the woman assisting my husband stated we were going to be charged for "pet hair". We did not have any animals in the car during our trip. She told my husband if he vacuumed it out, we wouldn't be charged. He tried to explain that all we had in the car was our luggage, cooler, and pillows/blanket. She still was going to fine us for pet hair. My husband spent 45 mins driving around trying to find a functioning vacuum at a gas station/car wash. This was a HUGE inconvenience and we will not be returning to this location. read more

I booked a car for 4 days. I returned the car the same day. I was promised the difference would be automatically refunded when the transaction closed. The shop was short staffed so although I had plenty of time to drop off the rental and pick up my car from the service center, the employee took so long to help me that I was trapped without my car until the next day. After waiting 2 weeks for the difference to be refunded I contacted Budget. They charged me $70.00 for the one day. When I questioned them about the fee, they gave excuse after excuse for charging 70.00 for 1 afternoon. Horrible expensive lesson learned. Go to Enterprise. Go to Hurtz. Walk, take a bus, call a friend. Call Uber. Just do not use avis or budget. read more

I've rented a vehicle several times over the last couple months from Sam here at Budget, and not only have the vehicles been really nice quality and spotless, but Sam, the owner, is an absolute delight, too. He's literally always there, though, so I do worry about him, lol. Recently, we've been in a rental for nearly a month due to ongoing car issues, and we've had to extend the rental agreement repeatedly thanks to our shop continually pushing back the promise date for our own vehicle. Well, today, I called the 1-800 number on the key fob to extend the rental only to find out I couldn't do that anymore, so I called Sam at the store directly to find out what was going on. He kindly explained that contracts only allow a max of 3 extensions or 31d, whichever comes first, and I'd hit my 3 extensions, so I'd need to take the vehicle back in to close out my existing contract and start a new one. I wasn't the happiest person in the world, as I was in Houston at the time, and not even in the vehicle, as my husband had driven it to work, but he was incredibly apologetic about the situation. I switched cars with my husband and popped over to Sam's shop, where he immediately recognized me and apologized again for the inconvenience. He was able to renew my contract quickly even though he was pretty slammed and seemed to be training someone new (so maybe he'll finally get some time off soon???). I went in wanting to be irritated by the bureaucracy of it all, but every time I talk to Sam, I leave in a better mood, and the prices certainly don't hurt, either. Budget and Avis have been my go to in the past when I travel, so I've usually dealt with airport locations, and lemme tell ya, none have been even a quarter as pleasant to deal with as Sam is. He's definitely earned a loyal customer in me and mine. read more

Worst rental car company ever. If I could give them less than one star I would. First, the agent spent 10 minutes trying to upsell us " extras". We declined, he persisted, then said he'd just upgrade for free because of the wait. Then, the car we rented had issues. I called and they transferred me around for 45 minutes and then did nothing. When we returned the car and I received my bill they overcharged us and won't reverse the charges. Complete fraud and a horrible experience. read more

Randy was awesome. I left my bag onthe rental car and was an hour and a half away in San Antonio that night before I noticed (long story) and leave for a week in China the next day. I was wearing all I had and I was up a creek. I called Randy in a panic and he went way out of his way to help. He went through some options for a courier, called around to some locals to see if anyone could deliver it for less, and ultimately found someone who dropped it off at the airport in San Antonio, no charge, so I could do what I needed to do. This is what it is--a small independent office of a large rental car company. As a business traveler, the thing that differentiates between offices is the local service. To me, all the big rental companies are pretty similar in terms of corporate policy, and the way their call centers treat customers. The only differentiation is by these local owner/operators. I can't speak to anyone else's experience, but Randy could have fairly taken advantage, I would have been glad to pay, but he didn't and I respect and honor him for taking care of me the way he did. Very cool. This is an off site car rental agency that keeps normal business hours. You trade local convenience for time convenience. Works great if you are working/staying around NI. If you don't rent much or understand how these things work, don't blame it on the office blame it on the system. Renting a car is a hassle sometimes. But Randy really took care of me. read more

I had a reservation for 8:00am. I get there and they say they don't have a car for me. I reserved it WEEKS in advance. They said tough luck go somewhere else...... when I asked about cars In their lot they said those were for specific reservations. Not sure why mine wasn't "specific". I got super upset and he ended up calling a nearby budget and seeing if they had a car, but only after I sat down and waited for him to figure it out. The budget at Tech Ridge had a car for me. BAD. VERY VERY BAD! Trust that by renting from this specific location, you are only guaranteed hassle and horrible service upon returning. The person who checked me out, literally did the processing three times before the paperwork was finalized and I was out the door, approximately 40 mins or so of time wasted, I could have been on the road. This is my first car rental. The car smelled, was dirty inside and out. The person who processed the rental with me KNEW everything about my trip, including the fact that we wouldn't be back in town until after they were closed the next day. He advised me, since I was leaving for Seattle Monday morning at 7 am and they had no night drop, my friend OR her Mom could drop the car off instead when they opened...as I would be on a PLANE! This was one of the few reasons we went with Budget over Enterprise. He made everything seem perfect. LIES. At no point did he mention giving an all encompassing review of the car before leaving. I thought it all went off without a hitch. Getting in the 2014 rental car, I was shocked that the interior had a sort of off smell and that it was filthy but alas, I'd never rented a car. I figured, since it's a rental it just must be the way they keep them. Like a cheap hotel, so many people use it why keep it nice? Imagine during my connecting flight in LA, my disappointment in having to spend the 1hr and a half I had on my layover, on a return phone call to the Owner of Budget. He had left me a VM stating there were some additional charges that were going to be made to my card and I needed to call back. When I did, I was taken aback at how rude and inconsolable he seemed to be. His tone in the first place, put me off from being able to communicate with him effectively. I couldn't believe the way he spoke to me and his absurd implications. He basically scolded me, stating that it was an additional charge for me to have an "unauthorized driver" drop the rental car off. I told him, the person who rented the car to me said it was ok. He blatantly told me I was lying, that the person would have never said that. This discussion continued to go on like this, for a long time. He kept "calling me out" when I was talking, as if I was lying. Then he TOLD me we were SMOKING in the car!!! Listen you SOB, I haven't drank or SMOKED in almost 2 years. I have a 6 mo son and you have no right accusing me of anything. Second, your clerk person who checked me out ROLLED up IN the car he was "cleaning", SMOKING IN THE CAR HIMSELF!!!!! SO guess what, you have a major problem, both personally as well as by the way of your employee. Anytime I attempted to talk/debate this situation with him, he would interrupt me and state he wasn't going to argue about it. It was absolutely, the most ridiculous conversation, ever. This entire time, I'm running through an airport, trying to find the shuttle that takes me from American to Alaska and then boarding a different plane. He had no consideration for my plea to listen to reason and at one point, he said to me "we record everything and I will be able to listen to the tape and watch to see exactly what happened during this transaction." At that point, I said PLEASE do!!! PLEASE. If he did, he wouldn't have been threatening me AND he probably would get the sense to fire that behemoth mistake of a hire. What poor management. I'm sure, the threat of listening/watching the recording was a ruse and to no avail. However, if they had the aforementioned recording, it would have been in my favor and I wouldn't be sitting here trying to figure out how my 76$ rental was upped to a 110$. Thank GAWD I don't live near this place, I would have revisited over and over and over until I saw that kid fired and got my money back. Count your blessings OWNER. You got a little extra cash out of me for nothing but in the long run, your business is going to fail. I had booked a van to do a trip to Missouri via my corporate account. When I got there I asked what was available. I saw a town and country parked up front and asked for that van. The Owner told me, that would be an additional 4 - 5 dollars per day since that had the DVD player and stuff. Let me tell you this, almost all rental town and country comes with a DVD player and extra charging sockets and leather seats. It is just a matter of availability. I have never had any other rentals charge me that amount before. I had rented from a budget by the walmart on FM 620 and they were super nice. Upon returning, the car had a rock chip on the windshield and instead of the owner just running me through the formalities, he was explaining to my friend who came with me, that I might be paying close to 200- 300 dollars out of pocket. His general demeanor wasnt very pleasing and customer friendly. Im not saying the guy is bad... maybe thats just the way he is. However, I will not rent from this place again and neither will he go the extra mile to make you comfortable with your rental. AND also..... Rude manager and bad service: I am not a person who write reviews a lot unless I feel like I really had a bad experience or something went way too far. Me and my family rent a minivan to drive to Chicago for one week from this Louis Henna location of Budget. When my husband went to check out the car, the manager at this location was so raciest and rude to him. My husband said, he literally changed the car which was assigned for us to an old minivan. My husband didn't feel right at all bringing this car for our long trip. But since we had to reach to Chicago soon, my husband checked out the car from them and parked by our house driveway. After about two hours we packed all stuff inside the car and about to take off from our house driveway we noticed there was a dent on the front of the car, which we didn't notice when we checked out this old car(the car was parked under heavy sunlight and couldn't see all the dent). I called them right away to report the dent, obviously it was little past 6pm and they were closed. I tried to call all the numbers I searched for budget and nothing seem like to help to report our dent before we take off. SO, just bcuz we were not feeling safe driving this old car and they did not tell us about this dent when we checked out, we lost total trust with Budget, we decide not to leave that evening until this store open up in the morning and report it. My kids and we were all upset and sad that we couldn't leave that day after we were all ready and packed. I called them very next morning at 9am when they opened, and it happened to be the same manager who served my husband the day before. I told him about the whole situation and why we couldn't leave to Chicago as we planned. That irrespective manager of this location told me, that dent can be made by us after we checked out the car and we have to pay. I literally cried at that moment and I told him, you have the worst customer service and worst manager for any location can have, who doesn't take care of customer issues. He ruined our family vacation plus all these pain he put on us which only happened only because we happen to rent a car from this Budget. My granddaughter rented a car from Budget, paid a deposit, and the next day we drove quite a distance to the airport to pick up the car. Her best friends mother had died, and she needed to be there for her. When she gets to the counter, the guy asked if she had a reservation and she showed the confirmation to him.......he said "no". He asked her name, and when she told him, he said "no", unclear on what he was (mis)communicating, she asked if they had her car...he replied "no", she said 'but I have a reservation, I paid ahead' he again said "no". He then stated "I'll bet the lady behind you will renew her rental, we have no cars, except one premium for $225 a day, no one is turning their cars in. No one has any cars. When asked how she'd get her money back, he handed her a pamphlet and proceeded to deal with the lady behind her, who indeed extended her rental. This guy needs a class on how to treat customers. Is money the only thing that matters ? I've never used budget, but I do remember when I made a reservation for a mid sized car at my preferred company, they didn't have one available when I needed it, so they gave me a premium car for the rate I'd reserved. THAT is customer service..... and so is the attitude....I've never been treated rudely, or my need been dissed. As it happened, for some odd reason no one has any cars....and the guy at the counter knew that. I suppose he could have behaved worse, I suppose this is just the level customer service has sunk to, I suppose no one really expects to be treated with dignity any more, they get 1 star, I'd give them a minus ten if possible for wasting our time on top of everything else......"you could have called me" my granddaughter said....."
