When we arrived at the rental car area at RSW, I was surprised to see a massively long line leading to the Budget/Avis counter. (There were no lines at any of the other rental car counters.) Nate and I had reserved a vehicle via Costco rental cars prior to our trip, so we figured we just had to wait. It took us just over an hour of standing in line to get up to the counter. While we were waiting, we heard other people looking for other cars from the other companies, but everyone was sold out. An employee did come out and announced that if you had a reservation, they had a car for you. But if you didn't make a reservation ahead of time, you were out of luck. They also told us that if you signed up for the Fastbreak program while in line, you wouldn't be able to use it that day (to skip the line). Needless to say, people were visibly annoyed. When we finally got to the counter, we were asked if we wanted an EV or a pickup truck... neither of which was what we reserved online. Oh well, we went with the Mach E which was very fun to drive. We didn't end up charging it at all while we were visiting and returned it with about 40% charge since we didn't find many compatible charging stations near where we were staying. Returning the car was much quicker and smoother, thankfully. We just drove in to the garage and gave the keys to an employee who was waiting. I just didn't love having to stand in line for over an hour to get our vehicle, which seems to be the normal experience based on the other reviews. read more

Not the experience I expected and to be honest had more to do with vehicle itself. Looking at the door stickers looks like this car is well over 4 years old and given it is a rental car they get put through the wringer. Car was pretty beat and had definitely seen better days and I had rented a luxury vehicle which this was far from a luxury vehicle. Maybe back in the day it was but given current condition it was not. The interior in many places was peeling. Car was dirty and just felt gross to sit in seat. Loved getting to drive a Tesla after renting a couple of years ago a Polestar but would have been nice knowing this was my first time renting a Tesla to explain things. Agent indicated keys were in cup holder... The "keys" as she called it was a black credit card that was in the side of the black center console which took me in a not a well lite garage forever to find. I realize how rare it is to award five stars to a car rental company. But my experience at this Budget location today was perfect. It could not have been better. At the Budget FastBreak counter I was ready to present my confirmation number, driver's license, and credit card. But the very pleasant employee simply asked my name and then she handed me a paper with a parking space number, and directed me to the garage. I walked to my car in the garage and in less than five minutes total I was out the door and on the highway. My car was perfectly clean, inside and out. The line was soooo long to get through to finally getting the rental car info. It did go quicker than I thought but as soon as you're off that plane - the last thing you want to do is wait for a rental car after you completed the paperwork online. Especially with a kiddo that just wants to hop in a pool. The line still took over 30+ mins to get through at roughly 7pm at night. I don't understand why it does take so long to get the rental car once you arrive. There's gotta be a better way to do this. Terrible experience! Was off my plane and claimed my luggage all within 10 minutes of landing, and then spent well over an hour on a ridiculous line that funnels out to the different car companies. Our desk representative was extremely rude and barely makes eye contact as she goes through her rote script. Absolutely felt the pressure being placed on us to purchase additional unnecessary insurances, toll passes and pressure to pre-purchase gas at their set rate. Not really what you want to deal with when you waited so long to finally have your turn. Then you're dismissed with a car number to go locate your vehicle quite far away from this area. When we arrived, with a reservation made in advance, the line was 45 minutes long. A week later, when we dropped off the car, we looked in and the line was just as long if not longer. None of the other rental car companies (except Avis, which shares a line with Budget) had any such problems. While waiting in line, they had a QR code you could scan to speed things up once you reached the counter. That did not speed things up at all. Bottom line is, expect to wait a long time to get your car. read more

Very concerning that my experience from Feb 6 seems to be highlighted in some recent reviews. I was inappropriately charged for a "loss damage waiver" 39$ a day. I did NOT agree to this, nor did initial next to this. I specifically recall declining ALL additional services. I did call a supervisor who offered me a "one time" resolution to remove the erroneous charge, but was basically told it was my fault. It is concerning that in reviewing some recent reviews, this practice seems to be a pattern. I strongly think that this company or branch is attempting to take advantage of people. read more

Upon arriving at the rental counter the girl was extremely rude! Basically mad because she couldn't sell us the toll and refueling package. So we put our luggage in the hatch hopped in and a few hours later I looked in the back and the seats were stained brown! After seeing all the wet nose prints on the back window we knew a dog or some kind of animal was left in this car and urinated on 3 of the 4 seats of the car. The armrest had vomit that had dried and was crusted. Never cleaned!!! The windshield (the only way to explain) looked like they cleaned it with milk. Once we got into the sun we could barely see out of it. I took pictures right away and called customer service. They had the pictures also because I emailed them to them as they requested. All they offered was a coupon for a free day rental on a future rental. NO THANKS! I would never rent from this company again! After multiple emails back and forth they finally gave me a small refund, which I consider a joke for the unsanitary mess they put us in. Think twice before you rent from this Budget. I rented an EV. Was told to return it with at least 70% charged and you won't get charged a recharge fee. I got a recharge fee when I returned it. When I called they said it was a mistake as they see it was returned at 85%. I appreciate it being a one time mistake, but getting these fuel charges is becoming a frequent occurrence. I was double billed for the damage waiver. I made the reservation online and paid. When I got there, the manager, Damaris Velez, checked me in and asked me a series of questions, including did I want the damage waiver, tolls, an additional driver, prepaid gas and other questions. Since I had already done this online, I figured she was just double checking. She had to have had access to everything I did online, she knew my name, what car I had reserved and even prempted the conversation by saying "you reserved this online, right?" When returning the car, three days later, I spoke to the person running the counter and I said, looks like I was double charged for the damage waiver ($39.90 per day for 3 days). She said, "is this the contract you signed", of course it was, I said "yes". She said I shouldn't have agreed to the damage waiver. Seems like they are taking advantage of clients by double billing them. This was a terrible experience and double paying for a $100 insurance coverage seems like predatory practices. Budget Car Rental Fort Myers is taking advantage me as a client. Since I brought this to their attention BEFORE the car was returned, I thought an adjustment should be made, they simply said it was my fault and there was nothing that could be done. read more

Terrible experience. I made a reservation six months ago for a Jeep. Got to the desk and told us they only have a Toyota Carola. My son had surgery on his foot and needed a SUV for his scooter to fit. We were told to take the Carola and come back the next day because they would have an SUV for us. Came back at 8am with plenty of SUV's in the lot. Asked for our car and they "did not" have an SUV for us. I was told because I accepted the Carola that they now had to use the SUV's in the lot to satisfy the people that reserved for that day and our car we accepted was what we agreed to. They also said we should have never been told to come back the night before. Just a bunch of people pushing off problems to other people with no resolution for customer care. The whole Rental process is trash and everyone I spoke to and had encounters with were very rude & not understanding nor willing to help me with what I needed !!! I never got the discount or free upgrade that I was promised and then found out after the fact that I had to pay a $250 additional fee until I returned the vehicle ... to top it all off , I only ended up renting the vehicle for 3 Days versus the 7 days that I had put and I'm being charged for the whole week even though I explained to multiple people and supervisors that I was not told the terms and conditions up front and I had to bring it back due to a family emergency !!! I'LL NEVER RENT FROM BUDGET AGAIN. We rented a car in NYC last July and on the drive to DC, we got a flat tire. I put on the spare and drove the the Budget lot. I informed them of the flat tire and filled out some paperwork. Fast forward almost 6 months and they send us a bill for the tire. We had thought the insurance or credit card company had covered the cost as we never heard a peep from Budget. I communicated my thoughts to Budget about waiting 6 months to bill someone, and they essentially replied with yeah so what. Then to make the situation worse, while we reached out to our credit card company about getting cost covered, Budget sent the bill to COLLECTIONS. Mind you, this was only about a week after receiving the bill. The fact that Budget thinks it is good business to wait 6 months to send a bill, but only week for the customer to cover the bill, before sending it to collections. This is clearly not the type of business I will ever choose again. read more

Turns out, their new policy is that if you don't drive 75 miles, they charge you about $17.00 plus tax. They say this is for gas, but I filled both rentals up before returning them. Very disappointed in which the way our rental was cleaned. They basically ran water over it with a hose and when it dried, there were so many water spots on the windows and mirrors, I had to find a gas station to clean them so I could see. When the car failed to start, I was in the Florida heat with my elderly father. I had to wave someone down for a ride. I called Budget roadside assistance & they said they would send help. I waited over 2 hours, no one came. I called again, and they said oops... they would try someone else. 12 hours later, no one came. The next morning, I called again. No record of my request for help. I fueled up my car at the airport and yet they charged me $74 for a fuel service fee. Then you have to waste your time calling customer service and providing them a receipt. The out side has dirty dried water droplets. The inside was the worst, they looked like they wiped it with a damp dirty microfiber cloth. Because of the inside it was difficult to see with on coming car headlights or the sunlight. How the guy parking it after their 'cleaning' did it take it back is beyond me.
