I was absolutely impressed by this B&B! Upon arrival you walk up these magnificent staircase to the lovely wood door with a covered front patio in case you need to wait a sec. (Don't forget these are B&Bs and usually owners have to go run out and grab necessary items to run it) we called upon arrival as stated at the door and the owner arrived shortly after to let us in; it was nice to sit and take in the fresh air. She gave us recommendations which we did like the places she suggested. The owner made a lovely breakfast every morning; I've never had breakfast casserole and it was great! She also had juices, sides, and coffee. I would definitely recommend staying here for a short weekend trip! It is absolutely stunning and the host was super sweet!

We loved our stay in Trinidad at the Tarantino. We had a lovely large room with a balcony. It was near the Main Street for easy access to restaurants. Breakfast was provided. We will stay there again.

Victorian looking but modern telephones that work in each room.

Do not stay anywhere else if your in the Trinidad area! This is the most unique and beautiful experience. Every room is unique and beautifully decorated from the Victorian era. As a guest you get access to dining room, parlor, library and more. Even thought the house was built in the early 1900s, it was clean, neat and had all the modern necessities you need without looking modern at all! We felt like royalty! Easy walking access to the cutest downtown area with plenty of cute shops and restaurants. This would be the perfect place to rent out for a mystery dinner party!

It is like staying in a romantic Italian flat. We stayed in the Trinidad Suite. If you are bored with the ho hum roadside hotel and you are staying in Trinidad Colorado, this is a great alternative. The old home is beautifully restored, wood floors, antique furniture, terraces to step outside and enjoy a beautiful view of the town. The hot water shower was great and the breakfast snack basket left for you in the morning is perfect for your day of travel. I highly recommend this accommodation.

We especially enjoyed the wide selection of VHS tapes and cozy decor. Mike was an outstanding host with world class breakfasts each morning, top tier hospitality, and fun conversations. It truly felt as if we were right at home and part of the Cuchara family. Mike's inn is perched on the banks of a rushing creek (and the lawn out back along the creek is pure paradise), and when you stay here, you feel welcome enough to feel like family, without all the social obligations that come with staying with family. Mike is a local legend, everyone knows him. He is the driving force behind the re-opening of the ski resort in Cuchara, and has been in the ski business his whole professional life. He is a gracious, kind host...quiet and reserved, but is happy to chat if you engage him. He's a SUPERB cook (and this is coming from a chef!), and his breakfasts are truly outstanding. The place is supremely dog friendly, with no extra charge for a pet. (A huge savings if you're staying a week.) Yes...this is an older home, converted to an inn. (Each suite has a full kitchen.) This is not The W. Don't come expecting that. We found our suite to be twice the size we expected, supremely comfy, and the price was spot-on for such a wonderful stay with breakfast every day, and an unlimited source of information about the area. Without question, we will be back!

We only stayed one night, on our way to our home base for the rest of our motorcycle touring trip; however, we are very likely to return and use Pennington Place as home base for our next trip to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The property is gated and passcode protected. It felt very safe and secure. We stayed in the Sevilla Marie room at Pennington Place (all of their rooms are named after Donna and Rich's parents, which I thought was a nice touch--and decorated in a way that honors the namesake. How cool is that?) Our room was very clean, the bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion. The shower had good water pressure and our room had a small kitchenette. Had we stayed longer, we may have used that more, but for just overnight, we didn't really need it. And oh the bed--very, very comfortable. And the pillows were just right--not too puffy, not too thin. And right out the window is a beautiful view of Spanish Peaks. Donna asked what our evening plans were and we said we were going to go into town to have dinner. She had a recommendation for us and we told her we would try it. Without even being asked, she called La Plaza for us and asked if we needed a reservation. They said that would be safe and so she reserved us a table. Little did she know, it was our anniversary. And the food was great--we highly recommend it if you are staying in Walsenburg. We also were lucky enough to join two other couples for Donna's full breakfast the next morning. It was nice to sit around a table--so few of us do that these days--and visit with new friends over Donna's delicious food. She served a savory egg dish, garnished with avocado and salsa. She also provided a cinnamon sugar muffin and a fruit and yogurt parfait. We drank juice and water, but she also offered coffee--just no takers this morning. If you are coming to Colorado and passing through Walsenburg, this is a no-brainer. Stay here. And if you haven't ever considered Walsenburg as a peaceful, quiet, serene getaway....do yourself a favor and come meet Rich and Donna and see their beautiful location. The property has quite a story, but I've typed too much already. And besides, it's a better story coming from them! Go see them! And take some friends...Pennington Place would be a great place for a group of 6-8 people just wanting to get away from the rat race!

The location was perfect for walking to a restaurant or the wine bar in town. The owner made fabulous breakfasts and was up early to make sure the coffee was ready. She was delightful and sweet. She did her best to make sure we were cared for, comfortable, and well fed to begin the day. Our private bathroom had a soaking tub rather than a shower. We had to use the general bathroom if we wanted a shower. (I was ok with that.) La Veta is a very small town at the base of the Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado. The townsfolk were very friendly and welcoming to visitors. I would go back in a heartbeat.

This place has many positive points, my favorite of which is the wonderful coffee and breakfast cooked and served by our host. I would be remiss though, if I didn't point out a couple of negatives as a "just so you know". There is NO air conditioning so on hot days, even with the windows open and fans running at night, it is warm. We didn't perish but it didn't inspire snuggling. The second issue for me was the lack of a stand-up shower. There is a nice claw foot tub with a 3' rubber thing that you plug one end into the spigot and a shower spray comes out the other end. However considering its 3' length I had to kneel in the tub to rinse my hair and do my bathing. No, I am not a bath person. For my $105 I wish they'd install a stand up shower fixture and an oblong ring at the top from which to hang a shower curtain. Our beds were very comfortable and the overall ambiance is pleasant. We enjoyed the teeny tiny town of La Veta; it is worth getting off the beaten path to visit.
