We stayed one night in room 116 for $66.55, which was a below average price for the trip. HE: Should I post these reviews as a conversation? SHE: Talking back and forth? Would that be fun for the readers? HE: It might be just annoying. SHE: Yeah, well then they can stop reading the review. HE: The room was sparse. It could really do with another table. SHE: It was pretty spacious. There's a lot of floor space, so another chair would have totally fit, but that's fine. Oh, also, hardwood floors. Not carpeted, which I prefer no carpet. HE: I prefer carpet. SHE: The bed was squeaky, right? HE: It was a little squeaky. SHE: We didn't test it, really, but it was a comfortable mattress. It's strange to me when two people are staying, and they only have three pillows. I'm always curious about that. It wasn't important enough for us to go to the front desk. "Only three pillows, one star. Ha!" HE: The room appeared clean. SHE: I checked the sheets and stuff like I always do. It felt completely clean. Not brand new but perfectly clean. HE: I will say the power outlet on my side of the bed did not work. SHE: There are many other outlets in the room. There was a refrigerator and a freezer. The freezer didn't really freeze anything overnight, but it was cold. There was no microwave. No coffee in the room, but coffee in the lobby. No breakfast. HE: The showerhead was wonky, and it sprayed in all directions. SHE: The toilet flushed so fast it scared me the first time. HE: That's hardly a complaint. SHE: It's an observation. SHE: The room smelled like an indoor swimming pool, which I personally like, because it's better than a lot of other smells. Our room was on the first floor, and it was across the hallway from the swimming pool, so it smelled like pool. HE: I didn't notice. SHE: Well, I did, because once we got down a little bit further past the pool somebody was smoking dope, and that's what I smell. HE: When I arrived, someone was complaining to the women at the front desk. Sounded like valid complaints, and she was taking it very well because he was very angry. There was a line of people waiting for him to complain, Including me in the line. SHE: She took care of him, and then she took care of us, and it was all good. The person right in front of us asked for another key, and she put her mom voice on for that guy because he apparently asked for a lot of keys. I don't know how long he'd been staying there, but she was like, "I am charging you for every single key after this." So, I was totally fine with that. She was firm, but she wasn't impolite. HE: The neighborhood was nice. There are convenience stores. That's one thing I looked at with reviews. What's the neighborhood like? Is this a place you want to park your car overnight? SHE: You're like in a little suburban area, just all your basic convenience all around. HE: There's actually a Ruby Tuesday nearby. SHE: Those things still exist? HE: Yeah, and an iHop. However, the bathtub was peeling from the sides, and the ceiling in the shower showed similar damage. The pool closed at 8, which was disappointing, and the restaurant and bar were also shut for remodeling. There was no smart TV, and the internet and TV service kept disconnecting. Since my reservation was non-refundable and we had been driving for 10 hours, we decided to stay. The continental breakfast offered apples, cereal, toast, and make-your-own waffles--no eggs. We've stayed here before when all the advertised amenities were operational, so I felt quite let down.

I wasn't charged for the reservation until check in and the deposit for incidentals was only $13. That was a low and weirdly specific number considering most hotels I've stayed at charge a minimum of $50-$100. I didn't bother with any of the amenities since I wasn't staying long. There is a fridge in the lobby with bottled drinks for purchase but they have coffee and a soda fountain in the dining area so you could grab a cup and get a drink at any time. The elevators are down the hall and around the corner, out of view from the lobby. My room was clean, but everywhere smelled like root beer. I inspected the kitchen and noted the full cabinet of glasses and dishes. The utensils were in the drawer under the stovetop and they were "clean" in the sense that they were washed off and left to air dry because they were all covered with water spots. There were also measuring cups and water pitchers, and microwavable bowls in the microwave. The inside of the microwave smelled like old pasta. The microwave, dish washer, and fridge were pretty old but they seemed to function just fine. The fridge made loud humming noises periodically which was kind of annoying, but I couldn't hear it when the bedroom door was closed. There was no hand soap in the kitchen, only green dish soap. The hand soap by the bathroom sink had a horrendously strong odor. I could still smell it on my hands, even several hours later and after several more washes. The light in the bathroom doesn't turn on right away and it flickers a lot before coming on. The fan had a weak motor to the point where I wondered if it worked at all. The walls of the tub were really high and even an average sized person would have to take a big step to get in. The only ceiling light is in the kitchen and like most hotel rooms, I had to have the curtains open or turn on every lamp in the suite to light the rest of the space. There was one light switch that didn't seem to connect to anything. The queen size bed was ok, but the frame was really squeaky on the left side. I had to sleep on the right side of the bed because it kept squeaking every time I moved. The pillows were huge so I moved all but one off the bed because they took up too much space. The suite had extras of just about everything - tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, bath towels, etc, which was nice considering most hotels don't provide extra anything unless you ask for it specifically. The night was peaceful, for the most part. There were some noisy neighbors in the adjacent rooms and the traffic from the highway was slightly disturbing. A lot of guests brought their pets (this hotel accommodates small pets) but I didn't hear any barking dogs during my stay. Over the years I've noticed that nicer hotels seem to have mediocre breakfast offerings, or they charge you a separate fee for breakfast, while the less-nice hotels have better breakfasts. I was disappointed with the food here and had hoped it would have been better. The sausage patties were dry and rubbery and the scrambled eggs were very watery. The seasoned potatoes were ok, and I didn't try the waffles. The bagels and toast were hard and a bit stale, and the butter and jams didn't have much flavor. The hard boiled eggs were a bit overcooked and I didn't even try to go for any of the dairy products. The cereal was located on a little table in the corner. There was a small section of what I thought was a salad bar, but there was no lettuce so I wasn't sure what these items were for. There was salsa, cheese, green onion, tomato, and cucumber. I was thinking that if there were tortillas available, you could have made breakfast burritos. Next to this selection was a variety of fruit and yogurt. The yogurt looked more like sour cream. I tried the orange and cranberry juice from the juice fountain and they both had a weird aftertaste. I opted to get a cup of iced tea from the soda fountain instead. Overall it was a nice stay and if I have the need to book a room in town again, I'll definitely look into this place first.

We booked a whirlpool tub room since we were roadtripping and hiking and wanted to just soak. The room itself was nice, big and clean. The tub is in the main bedroom area and can easily fit two. We did have a pretty major issue staying here. At about 9pm we heard a weird sound and realized (as we were half asleep) that the room above us had either sprung a leak or they overflowed their tub as it was POURING into our room. Tried to call the front desk - fast busy - could not get through. The app always says just chat with us and we can help - so I tried that and the obvious AI said - that sound serious we will alert the front desk (so you really can talk to no one). Five minutes and more water pouring in my husband got dressed and when downstairs to the desk. Maybe 10 more minutes we actually got help. Seemed really poor management to me. Ultimately we had to switch rooms, although they briefly gave us a hard time about giving us the same type of room (because it was their last one). That annoyed me as we were the ones that had our room and night ruined and had to move floors at 10p. At any rate, they did move us to a similar room. The rest of the stay was uneventful. I will say the whirlpool room on the 4th floor must get all the noise from roof units because it sounded like an engine running the entire time - we got used to it, but not great. It is probably just fine to stay here, it was just not a great experience.

We thought the hotel was new because the room was modern, clean and updated with bedside charging outlets on both sides of the bed. The morning breakfast was nice and simple yet satisfying. There was small cheese omelettes, sliced sausage, home fries, bagels, muffins, scones, oatmeal, fresh waffle maker, cereals and condiments. Everything tasted good and was exactly what we needed to continue our trip to the next Hilton property in San Antonio. I would definitely stay at this Hampton location if we visit Las Cruces in the future
