    Dead rat

Rented a SUV on 6/22. Upon receiving the vehicle, there was a strong odor inside the car. This was brought to the attention of the budget rental team and I was told that it was the only vehicle they had available that fit my needs. Against my better judgement, I took the vehicle thinking it was just a poorly cleaned rental car. By day three of having the rental the odor became unbearable. I decided to investigate and found a rats nest in the cabin air filter filled with rat urine, feces and dead rats. I contacted budget asking for them to replace the rental as this was a potential biohazard if the dead rats contained hantavirus. I was informed I would have to pay for two tows, one for a new vehicle to be picked up and returned to me and one for the infested vehicle to be returned to the pick up location. This would cost me $600-$800 dollars and take 8-10 hours in which time I could not leave my location. I decided to just removed to cabin air filter and drive the car back without the a/c on to avoid further exposure. Upon returning the vehicle on 6/26, I spoke with the manager at the check in counter and explained to her the situation. She told me the rental would be refunded in full. She printed me a receipt that supposedly showed it being refunded. Fast forward to today 6/29, still no refund reflected on my bank statement. I called customer service and was told there was no history of this being refunded and no case was ever opened. They told me they are unable to process the refund and would have to open a case to investigate the issue and decide if a refund was warranted. Not only did Budget expose my family to a potential biohazard, refuse to address the issue immediately continuing to expose us to it, but the then lied about refunding the rental. I will never rent from Budget again and suggest you do not either.

The Alamo rental car brand is a nice option for those of y'all who need rental car options anywhere…read moreand everywhere you want to be. For business, pleasure, or anything else you may need a rental car for, Alamo rental car may be the best option for your needs. I didn't plan on stopping here during my 6 day stay here in the New England area, but circumstances that presented itself had made that decision for me. The Alamo rental car location here at Bangor regional airport (BGR) here at Bangor, Maine was the closest Alamo car rental facility where I was at the time of discovering that my rental vehicle at the time, a Jeep Compass, was giving off a low tire pressure indicator on the dash board. Needless to say that it wasn't the first time and really need to remedy the situation so that nothing like this happens again. Or that I'm just a jinx. I was told that it happens in cold weather and October 2016 was one of those years that happens. This review is part of the review that is tied to the Alamo rental car facility in Manchester, NH, where I rented originally. For the most part, I'm glad that the Bangor airport facility had the car I needed and the vehicle exchange went fairly smoothly. I was told that the low tire pressure happens often in cold weather. Still, that still freaks me out. Alamo rental car company here in Bangor regional airport is located adjacent to the terminal and the baggage claim. There are about 4 other rental car companies here and there's no rental car shuttle necessary. Just need to walk across the street to the facility and you'll be treated to the sales staff at Alamo. On this particular Monday morning, October 17, I returned the rental car and wanted an exchange. I was told that it was possible to exchange the vehicle that's different than the originating facility. Almost like a library book, when you can return it at a different place rather than at the one you borrowed it from originally. I thought It that was great that you can swap vehicles that's rented from different locations, providing that you have a good reason to. Only thing that was different was the fact that I was told to fill the gas to full before the exchange, whereas the previous experience at PHX airport told me "don't worry about it". That's new. I didn't care that much though, just needed a new car, so I could get on with my vacation in Maine and within New England. I was burning about an hour behind schedule after making this detour. The car that I received at BGR airport was a Toyota Camry, which worked out better than the Jeep Compass. Not only that it drove smoother, it had better gas mileage and it had a USB charger so I could charge my iPhone easily. The service here was decent, friendly, and average. Thank you for allowing the exchange, makes me have faith in the rental car company experience. One thing to note though. I was assigned stall #9 for the Camry. However, there were 2 number 9's, one was for Alamo and the other was National. I assumed the keys were for the Alamo one, but it wouldn't start. "invalid key". I had to ask the counter representative and she helped me out, but informed her about the dual numbered stalls. It was a little confusing. I was in and out of there within 30 minutes or so. Not bad for a detour, but it was time I can't get back. Thanks Alamo for a good exchange. Helped me with the rest of my trip in New England. 3.5 stars for the service. 5.0 stars for being able to swap vehicles for rentals in different Alamo locations. Support local! B

TERRIBLE... STAY AWAY FROM ALAMO!…read more Rented a car in Geneva. Car was vandalized (slashed tire). Their website said we needed permission to put on the spare. When I called, they said they could send a service truck to change the tire. They NEVER EXPLAINED that this would be at our expense. We were prepared and able to change the tire on our own. A few weeks later, I see the charge on the CC: ~1400 USD for the service truck to change tire and purchase new tire. They included the receipt for the new tire ($160 USD). Total price gouging and lack of communication cost us a fortune. Be warned!! I will never rent from ALAMO or their affiliates, and will be sure to tell all my friends the same.

I shared this story with Rent-A-Wreck corporate four days ago. They said they would reply within 24…read morehours but I have not heard back- so it's becoming a review on Yelp! Long story short: -An incredibly shoddy car that reeked of cigarettes -Indifferent service, one employee was outright drunk on the job -The owner showed up at the crack of dawn ringing our doorbell long after we returned the car because he forgot we'd returned it. We rented a car from the Hampden, Maine Rent-a-Wreck on April 12th. The person on the phone seemed to be not at all happy to speak to me but transferred me to someone who was. We got our quote and decided to go for it. When we got there one of the employees was drunk (like, hollering drunk) but the owner was quite happy to set us up with a vehicle- an older Chevy Impala. The car reeked horribly of cigarettes, the Check Engine light was on and it was complaining about not having enough air in the tires. The big problem turned up the next day, when the car started beeping at us and telling us to turn off the engine immediately because it didn't have any oil in it. For the record, there was a Prompto oil change sticker on the window saying the car should have had its oil changed 10,000 miles ago or last November, whichever came first. Wow. We brought it back to Rent-A-Wreck and were told by a VERY unfriendly young guy to ignore the beeping, so we did. It continued to do this for the remainder of the time we had it- I can share photos. The car also obviously had a failing transmission. It would rev for a few seconds before kicking into gear. I rather doubt these people would have had our back if their car had left us stranded somewhere. On April 18th, we returned the car and the owner shook my hand and told me "It's a pleasure doing business". I wasn't terribly impressed by the service but felt like leaving it at that. Today, on April 29th, I was woken up at the crack of dawn before I was even out of bed by my door bell ringing. I saw a strange, brand-new Mercedes out front and then saw when the person was leaving that it was the Rent-A-Wreck owner. I checked my phone and saw a call from 'No Caller ID'- meaning that he enabled caller ID blocking when calling me. Naturally, it's really scary having someone coming and ringing your doorbell early in the morning when you aren't even dressed. I called over to Rent-A-Wreck and got through to the guy who told me that I still had his car. For the record, the guy who came to my door was the same person who I had personally handed keys to and shaken hands with. I told him that no, I didn't have his car, because I had returned it *to him*. He immediately turned around and said there must have been a mistake. -The owner didn't check their records to see if anyone else had the car? -The owner didn't remember me returning the car to him personally? -The owner didn't ask anyone else in the shop if they had rented it out? -The owner didn't do any of these things before showing up at my door like he's in the Mafia? When someone does something like that I'm expecting them to be armed. We were so scared we were shaking. Given my experience with this place I can't ever imagine doing business with Rent-A-Wreck again. I'd hitch-hike or walk first.

Not only did I receive an incredible deal, financially, but the owners were so incredibly easy to deal with. They were thoughtful and kind and extremely helpful in all aspects of the business transaction. The car was not really a wreck, although it was older and not exactly a show model. But it got me from point a to point B, and I was picked up at the airport when I arrived in Bangor, and dropped off on the day that I had to catch my flight home. This is a great company and when I return to Bangor next year, I will be calling them to rent another wreck! Thanks, guys!

I had no idea and had to ask a National car rental person where Enterprise was located. I called and was on hold a few times. Eventually I looked out again and the van was there. I was very uncomfortable on the ride to the office as I was the only woman in the vehicle with 4 unknown men. Thankfully, no one was weird with me. Once there, the staff was super friendly with customers. However, I did notice that they are a little dismissive with each other. Service was a bit slower than other Enterprise stores, but not a huge issue. I didn't like the car, it definitely needs to be retired. It rides rough, has a poor uptake, and the backup camera is tiny. It also had some damage to it that was thankfully documented before I took possession. Overall, I wouldn't rent from them again. It's not convenient for my type of travel.

Three different phone numbers and departments (customer service said contact roadside assistance, yet roadside assistance said contact customer service) and NO AVAILABLE replacement vehicle at Bangor airport anyway! It being a saturday the local Ellsworth Enterprise location was closed on weekends. Was told they would call me when they got one in Bangor. SEVEN HOURS LATER i received a call. No one offered to bring me a car; I could come swap at Bangor or I was told I could wait until Ellsworth location opened on Monday! By that time I had gone to a local shop and had coolant added. The shop knew this brand of car was known to have a sensitive coolant setting. I was so disappointed I HAD TO FIX the car problem and Enterprise left me hanging for hours. When I got the call, finally, they said they knew as well this brand of car (Volkswagon) had coolant issues!!!! A discount on the rest of my rental period was offered, but this did not in any way make up for leaving a little old lady worried about damaging the car Enterprise provided with NO help from Enterprise. You've left a very bad impression. Also noticed the other bad reviews on here with similar episodes!
