I didn't plan on stopping here during my 6 day stay here in the New England area, but circumstances that presented itself had made that decision for me. The Alamo rental car location here at Bangor regional airport (BGR) here at Bangor, Maine was the closest Alamo car rental facility where I was at the time of discovering that my rental vehicle at the time, a Jeep Compass, was giving off a low tire pressure indicator on the dash board. Needless to say that it wasn't the first time and really need to remedy the situation so that nothing like this happens again. Or that I'm just a jinx. I was told that it happens in cold weather and October 2016 was one of those years that happens. This review is part of the review that is tied to the Alamo rental car facility in Manchester, NH, where I rented originally. For the most part, I'm glad that the Bangor airport facility had the car I needed and the vehicle exchange went fairly smoothly. I was told that the low tire pressure happens often in cold weather. Still, that still freaks me out. Alamo rental car company here in Bangor regional airport is located adjacent to the terminal and the baggage claim. There are about 4 other rental car companies here and there's no rental car shuttle necessary. Just need to walk across the street to the facility and you'll be treated to the sales staff at Alamo. On this particular Monday morning, October 17, I returned the rental car and wanted an exchange. I was told that it was possible to exchange the vehicle that's different than the originating facility. Almost like a library book, when you can return it at a different place rather than at the one you borrowed it from originally. I thought It that was great that you can swap vehicles that's rented from different locations, providing that you have a good reason to. Only thing that was different was the fact that I was told to fill the gas to full before the exchange, whereas the previous experience at PHX airport told me "don't worry about it". That's new. I didn't care that much though, just needed a new car, so I could get on with my vacation in Maine and within New England. I was burning about an hour behind schedule after making this detour. The car that I received at BGR airport was a Toyota Camry, which worked out better than the Jeep Compass. Not only that it drove smoother, it had better gas mileage and it had a USB charger so I could charge my iPhone easily. The service here was decent, friendly, and average. Thank you for allowing the exchange, makes me have faith in the rental car company experience. One thing to note though. I was assigned stall #9 for the Camry. However, there were 2 number 9's, one was for Alamo and the other was National. I assumed the keys were for the Alamo one, but it wouldn't start. "invalid key". I had to ask the counter representative and she helped me out, but informed her about the dual numbered stalls. It was a little confusing. I was in and out of there within 30 minutes or so. Not bad for a detour, but it was time I can't get back. Thanks Alamo for a good exchange. Helped me with the rest of my trip in New England. 3.5 stars for the service. 5.0 stars for being able to swap vehicles for rentals in different Alamo locations. Support local! B

TERRIBLE... STAY AWAY FROM ALAMO!…read more Rented a car in Geneva. Car was vandalized (slashed tire). Their website said we needed permission to put on the spare. When I called, they said they could send a service truck to change the tire. They NEVER EXPLAINED that this would be at our expense. We were prepared and able to change the tire on our own. A few weeks later, I see the charge on the CC: ~1400 USD for the service truck to change tire and purchase new tire. They included the receipt for the new tire ($160 USD). Total price gouging and lack of communication cost us a fortune. Be warned!! I will never rent from ALAMO or their affiliates, and will be sure to tell all my friends the same.

It is very small and quaint, so there is no rental car return center, there is no covered spot so if it's raining (like it was for us) - you're going to get wet walking across the street. I was NOT told by the agent that I was not getting the car I had reserved, and I question what is the difference between a Large Sedan (Group F) and the small 4 door car I received. I have never had Hertz do this before. When I disputed it they tried to say I had gotten a different car then reserved even though the class was the same on the rental and the reservation. Lesson learned READ the rental contract and make sure it matches what you were quoted when you made the reservation.

I had reserved an economy car, but I guess so did most others. They were out of those vehicles and gave me a free upgrade to something bigger. The car drove great for the during of my trip. At the end of the trip, I had an early flight home to catch, so I parked the car in the return area and put the car keys with the filled out rental agreement form into their drop box. When I contacted customer support for assistance, I was informed that making changes over the phone would incur an additional fee. Eventually, I finalized the reservation and selected a Volkswagen Jetta. Upon arriving to pick up the vehicle, I found the staff in a back room rather than at the front desk. After approximately 15 minutes, they acknowledged my presence and appeared somewhat unprofessional. They attempted to sell me additional insurance for $135, despite the fact that insurance had already been purchased at the time of reservation. The vehicle provided was parked in a tight space among several other cars, making it difficult to access the doors and trunk, which required driving over a curb. The vehicle was not the model I had reserved. When I pointed this out, my request was declined. The car had visible dents and scratches, a half tank of gas, and damaged upholstery with cigarette burns. I took photographs of the vehicle, noting the damage, and informed the staff about the fuel level. They advised me to take a picture and to refuel to a half tank before returning. During the trip, I experienced engine knocking, unusual noises, and sputtering. When I returned the vehicle to Kissimmee, the attending agent was courteous and inquired if I had refueled the vehicle. I informed her that I had filled it to three-quarters and provided photographic evidence. She declined an inspection, assured me the transaction was complete, and I received my receipt before leaving. Three weeks later, I noticed a $450 charge from Budget on my bank statement. I confirmed with my bank that this was unauthorized. They put my card on hold, and I contacted Budget's customer service. The representative, after verifying my information, incorrectly stated that I had been involved in an accident. When I clarified that I had not, he suggested I should have purchased additional insurance, which I had explicitly declined. I provided details about the drop-off, along with photographs of the fuel level and odometer readings, though I lacked proof of key exchange. The representative also claimed the vehicle was returned dirty with a bad odor and damage, which I denied. After a lengthy hold, he apologized, realizing the charge was mistakenly attributed to the subsequent renter. The odometer readings confirmed my vehicle was less driven than the one associated with the charge. This incident has been frustrating, and the entire resolution process took over an hour. Based on this experience, I will not be renting from Budget in the future.

Their prices did come out lower as far as the truck rental goes compared to other companies and their rental times were fair from my own experience as well. The truck itself was clean inside and did not smell. The gas and mileage policies were high I thought but at the end of the day it took one trip and $80 total to move our belongings.
