We booked and prepaid for our car online before flying to Chile, and picking it up was a breeze. Budget is located right inside the terminal with the cars parked across the street on the airport premises. Returning the car is also very easy.. you follow the signs to car rental return, and a guard will direct you where to park. Then you leave the keys at the Budget counter just inside the terminal (there's a box in case no one is there). My only complaint is that they don't have any GPS to rent, or any cars with GPS, and the car came without any gas in it so we were immediately looking for a gas station to fill up. Also, we were told that if we didn't buy their insurance, a $3,000 hold would be put on a credit card. We caved and were upsold on the insurance ($18/day) which has a $150 accident deductible and $1500 theft deductible. Usually the perk of signing up for the expensive rental insurance is that you can walk away without having to pay anything in the event of an accident, but I guess it's different in South America. It wasn't cheap - about $40 a day, plus $18 for the insurance, but we loved the freedom having a car gave us in terms of when and where we wanted to go. We visited Colchagua Valley, Santiago, Vina del Mar, and Valparaiso in 5 days. read more

Payment of a "cleaning fee"??? After having the car for 20 days we delivered the car back,and was told we should pay 30.000Pesos in a cleaning fee. Like you deliver a car back that is spotless clean after having it for 20 days. We never experienced that before at any other car rental agencies - this should be included in the rental agreement. I reserved and paid for a car online before arrival. However, upon arrival the man at Budget said that he did not have a car for me because I was past my pick up time. He could not do anything for me even though I already paid! The Budget people were so unhelpful and rude. I had to rent from Econorent and pay $300 AGAIN! read more

Completely dishonest and rude staff. I rented a car for 5 days, a super cheap Peugeot that looked like it had bicycle tires. The rental cost was about 3x what it would have been in the US. I paid extra for supplemental insurance, which I was told did not cover tires, and they would not even provide any written policy for the insurance. When I returned the car at 6am before a flight, they claimed that one of the tires had a bulge that I had caused. I examined the tire and it appeared completely normal. I was charged around $120 to replace an undamaged, albeit old, tire that could not have cost more than $50. I took photos and provided them to Budget, and after 3 weeks, was told that I would have to address the Budget Chile claims department, but was not even provided the contact information. Another call to Budget resulted in being redirected to a Brazilian voicemail after 30 minutes and 3 call transfers. Bottom line: Be very careful, as Budget Chile may charge you fraudulently, and the US customer service will be no help to you. read more
