Mitta and Europcar websites are pretty much impossible to negotiate if you plan to drive between Chile and Argentina and back. Andres handles your multi-country paperwork which will be ready and understood by the car rental company when you arrive. Consider LYS as your concierge agent. Before and during your trip, Andres is also available 24/7 by WhatsApp to answer travel and route questions. (this is really useful) If you are just visiting Chile and plan to stay in-country, you could do it on your own if you are confident with your Spanish reading. Recommendation: Buy Airalo Chile and Argentina SIMs for data during your trip then use WhatsApp. Most hotels and businesses rely on WhatsApp and it is a great way to stay connected.

I paid him roughly 160 US because I had never rented a car in Chile and wanted the process to be more smooth and have the 24/7 help. He did not answer when my vehicle was sabotaged, which voided the whole reason that I booked through him. When I reached out to request a refund he very kindly told me that I was on my own. Don't make the same mistake that I made. Just book the car through europcar yourself. Avis and Budget also operate here if you want to use an English speaking 24/7 support service. By the way I don't write reviews and I gave Andres the opportunity to fix this. Attached is an example of an email his company sent me. Absolutely ridiculous to pay for someone who has so many technical difficulties. He also sent me a photo of WhatsApp to try to con me into believing that he had no missed calls from me... (for reference you can delete missed calls on WhatsApp and he is a conman)

However, when I went to go pick up the car, we were told by the service agent at the desk that our rental car was AWD as requested. However there were no indicators in the vehicle showing the Kia Sportage was indeed an AWD model. After driving it in the mountains, we realized it was not AWD. We also rented chains, and they were too small when we actually had to use them. I spent a couple of hours on the Whatsapp chat trying to get a different rental car and different chains. Eventually they told me they didn't even have any AWD vehicles in their fleet at all. Meaning that the Whatsapp customer service people lied to me when I was researching and the desk agent also lied to me. When I asked to get bigger chains they said they could do that for me. But when I tried to figure out which office on Santiago had larger chains available, they completely ignored my message - multiple times. We stopped by the office in Las Condes and they were at first happy to help. Then they realized they did not have the chains we needed. So asked which office to go to. They could not tell us. They couldn't look it up for us and they wouldn't help us out by calling other Chilean offices in the area. We still don't have chains that are the right size and never has it been mentioned that we get any kind of refund, although I will be demanding a partial refund upon returning the car. I will not be renting from Chilean Rent A Car ever again and I strongly suggest no one else do so either.

I rented a Alamo car at Santiago Chile. When I went to the…read morecounter to sign the papers to get the car, to my huge surprise, then said they will need to deposit of ~$2000 from my credit card! This was totally unexpected! Alamo didn't mention in any of their communications that there will be a US ~$2000 deposit. This is really bad to go to a foreign country, where almost nobody speaks English, and having to understand all these and the implications. So, they can charge/deduct, if any small things they can find, from my credit card deposit/hold. I told them my credit card already offers Primary coverage but still wanted the deposit. I rented cars from other agencies in Latin America but they didn't require that. Also, they wanted a printout of my reservation even though everything was done online. Luckily I has a copy of the reservation. This was totally unexpected. Also, after renting the car, I tried to go online and check my reservation to see what is happening but Alamo removed my reservation from the online access. Will never rent car from Alamo. Really shady practices!
