Nice free upgrade from the faulty Hyundai Thanks, Dennis!
    Madeline A.

I went here to switch a car I had rented in Los Angeles to get me to the Bay and back. A warning light had me nervous about taking it back down 5. The guys here were SO nice, switched the car no questions asked, and Dennis the manager gave me a free upgrade so I got to take a convertible back to Los Angeles. He even offered to take my picture in my new ride. The nicest. Budget employees are always great, but Dennis is the best. I rent cars all the time, so I'm never going anywhere else.

How in the world is something who reserved online going to know how these holiday hours if they aren't on the website.

Super shady business practices. My dad rented a car for the Christmas holidays for pick up at 12pm noon. That morning I call at 10am to ask if we can pick up the car early, the person says no... we the car won't be ready until 12pm. Then we get a call at 12:05pm saying that they are closing... and if we aren't there in 5 mins, they will cancel the reservation. Thankfully I live 3 mins away, so we rush over there and got the car. I asked how could they close at 12pm and at first the guy was like "oh, we always close a noon on Saturdays" ... to which I incredulously point at their own window which claims that they are open until 1PM on Saturday (see included photo). Then they were like "Well you can always pick it up earlier than the reservation time." To which I pointed out that I DID try to do so, and they said the car wasn't ready yet. After that they mumbled that they actually were waiting on the car to be returned by 11:30am. There were two other people their who also were similarly screwed, including one couple that was screwed out of their "guaranteed upgrade." Basically it sounds like these guys overbook their cars like an airlines overbooks a plane in order to guarantee that every car is rented out. I ended up mentioning this to a cousin and she said the the exact same thing happened to her earlier this month and she just thought it was a quirk that a rental car office closes at noon.

They did not have any cars available. Customer service was poor. I will never rented from budget again.

I was rear-ended in a parking garage almost as soon as we moved to California. Welcome to Palo…read moreAlto! So AAA insurance is paying for the repair through Mathew-Carlson and the rental car through Hertz. The gentleman at Mathews-Carlson told me that Hertz would come get me to pick up the rental car. Hertz told me to give them one hour notice before going to the car shop (in a phone message which I have on file). I called this morning when they opened and was told by a gentleman that the car shop would deliver me to Hertz for my rental car. I got to the car shop and they said that Hertz was supposed to come get me. Mixed messages for sure. The car shop called Hertz and they did indeed send someone to come get me. Daniel, the Hertz driver, was very pleasant. He asked me, on the way over, to have my claim number and license ready so that they could help me quickly upon our arrival. He welcomed me to California and excitedly told me about the new cars they had gotten in recently. He is invested in the company and image for sure - a tribute to Hertz. I told him that I had left my temporary license in the van at the shop but that I had my old Illinois license with me. (Getting a license in CA is a whole other horror story.) He said that it might be an issue but that he would go back and get it if needed. We got to Hertz and Jackie, the manager, asked me for my credit card and license. I gave it to her and she immediately handed me my license back and was ready to dismiss me. I tried explaining to her that Daniel had said that he would go back for my license and she talked right over me. She was ready to make me find my way back to the car shop to get my license and then find my way back to Hertz again - with no car. I had to ask her to listen to me, take a deep breath and remind her that customer service is part of her job. (The attitude here in CA Is very different from our Midwest friendly values.) I then slowly explained that Daniel had offered to retrieve my license from the van in the car shop, should it be needed. She was clearly not happy about this but, with a sigh, went to retrieve Daniel. I don't rent cars often - maybe once every ten years. My husband, however, rents them over 25 times per year for business travel purposes. I will insure that he does not use Hertz. There are plenty of other car rental companies out there that we don't have to settle for curt behavior or mixed messages. I am giving them two stars for Daniel's efforts and for the fact that the office is clean and bright and smells good. Update: Jackie apologized for starting off on the wrong foot. This earned another star from me. Odd for two different employees (Jackie and Daniel) to talk about their brand new cars to me and then to be handed a 2017 Camry with 35000 miles on it, but it'll do.

Akil was the friendliest and most helpful associate you could ever wish for. He worked diligently and patiently with me to resolve every single problem, and his manager was as friendly and helpful. I had several special requests, and Akil worked through every one with me - he really wanted to make sure that I will leave the location happily, and all of that on a Friday afternoon, 30 minutes before closing. I was super impressed and thankful for his great service.

Overhead is low- this is a small, local business. He's very friendly, professional, and allows after-hours returns. If I have to rent a car in the South Bay again, I'm calling Acar! By the way, reviews for Meissner Automotive are great, so if they can fit you in, you can have a rental right next door for the time it takes to repair your car. That's synergy, folks!

Steve is a great guy. I rented a car from him for 10 days while my car was in the shop, and his…read morebusiness practices and customer service skills are some of the best. However, I have a huge problem with the fleet of cars he has. 1. The fleet is quite frankly, very old and outdated. I was offered two cars by Steve. The first one and the one I stuck with was a 2000 Toyota Camry, pretty close to base model. It had just a hair under 200,000 miles, and I believe every exterior panel had some damage to it. The headlights were hazed up. The check engine light was on. The height adjustment knob for the drivers seat was broken, and so the seat was stuck in a position slightly lower than what I was comfortable with. The windshield wipers made annoying noise when running. The brakes squeaked and felt rough when coming to a stop. The AC made a horrible noise whenever turned on (thank god it's November). I was also offered what appeared to be a 1999 Toyota Corolla. Literally the only automatic/power feature offered on the car was an automatic transmission. Everything else was manual or crank. Now I'm all for a cheap econo car when I'm just trying to get a cheap rental, but at the least, I would've expected something from 2004 or newer and not as beat up. The only nice thing about the Camry I rented is that it started up and drove without problems. But beyond that, I did not enjoy driving the Camry at all. I honestly don't know if he was giving me the cheapest cars he had because I'm 18, or if his entire fleet is like that. But I was disappointed that I paid for a car that was in worse condition than my own. The only thing Steve has going for versus other places is price. He is pretty significantly cheaper than Enterprise and Hertz. There's no underage fees, and no security hold on your credit card. For 5 days, it was about $160 to rent the shitbox Camry. Compare that to the almost $560 it cost to rent a Toyota Venza for a week with Flightcar (including the security hold), and it seems like a huge bargain. But then again, the Venza I rented was a lot bigger, nicer, smoother, and had very few problems. And if I'm paying to drive a car that isn't mine, I'll pay extra for the car that's newer and has less issues.
