If I could give zero stars I would. They are a total scam I went through expedia.com and the app guaranteed a payment of 159 dollars when I got there Denisse Gonzalez added all these extra charges and lied to me in my face. She also wanted to sell insurance on the car for 900 dollars which I know in San Jose las year I didn't pay that amount in National car rental. She is a liar don't trust her she also tried to charge my card 2800 dollars without telling me before that is completely wrong she tried charging that because the car that I rented was having issues. Check engine light on and miss firing had to stay in Loreto to wait for them a whole day and they didn't reimburse me for the hotel. Don't go here!!! Also requested to talk to there manager Cielo and she never retuned a call nor apologized they are unprofessional.

I should have believed all the poor reviews of Budget Rent A Car Cabo Airport before renting. Lesson learned, the hard way. I WILL CERTAINLY NEVER RENT AGAIN FROM THEM AND SUGGEST OTHERS RENT ELSEWHERE. So the rental was pretty seamless all the way until we tuned the vehicle back in on 1/6/25. When the representative found a tiny scratch under the lic plate on lower bumper. You practically have to crawl under the car to see it. This was not damage that we caused and just a scam by Budget to fleece tourists for more money. Anyway I completely disputed this but they still ended up charging me $150 which I will submit to American Express as they cover any physical damage as a cardmember benefit. Word of advise if you rent a car in Cabo. Take a very, very detailed video(s) of the exterior and interior of the car before accepting. I did this but did not have my camera low enough to see this scratch (See photo)

Booked 3 day economy car with Budget on CarRentals.com 3 days @ $8.00 / day $24.00 Estimated taxes & fees $11.02 Total amount of your booking $35.02 Picking up the car was easy. There was a shuttle ready to pickup with a Budget sign. But when I got to the counter, they told me Mexican liability and damage /collision insurance was mandatory so the breakdown (below) resulted in me paying over $200 more than what I expected AND a $1000 mandatory deposit so hopefully you don't max out your credit limit while on vacation. The car was scratched up quite a bit so we made sure to mark everything on the inventory prior to leaving. Thankfully we weren't charged anything additionally than what I have listed below ,upon return. Day 3 x 167.44 = 502.32 CDW x 3 627.90 = 1883.70 SLI x 3 418 = 1255.17 Airport fee 18% = 655. 41 Service charge Fee = 43.32 ERA x 3 41.65 = 124.95 Subtotal = 4464.87 16%IVA = 714.38 Total: 5179.25 pesos = $247.46 After checking my credit card statement I was charged $255.61 for the three day economy rental. It would have been cheaper to take a cab or shuttle. TIP: Bring a copy of your auto insurance and make sure it says coverage included in Mexico if you don't want to go through this hassle.

Avoid BBB Rental in Los Cabos - Scam Operation…read more I traveled to Los Cabos, Mexico, and needed a rental car. After reading countless negative reviews about rental companies overcharging tourists, I did extensive research and found a company called BBB that looked decent. They advertised $179 for 3 days with all insurance included (CDW, LIS, etc.), which sounded fair--so I booked it. When I arrived, BBB looked like a no-name company but was located near major rental agencies, so I thought I was safe. I was wrong. They advertised $179 but pushed a shady tactic: they told me their system charges in Mexican pesos only and claimed their internal exchange rate was nearly 21, meaning I'd be charged about $210, not $179. I told them I wanted to pay in USD as any international traveler should be able to do, but they refused. Then came the shocker -- the car they tried to give me was a dirty, beat-up, 14-year-old junker. No real rental company gives out cars like that. Most rotate vehicles every 2-3 years, but this place clearly bleeds them dry until they fall apart. I returned immediately and asked for a refund. To their credit, they refunded me on the spot--but probably because they expect travelers to come crawling back once they realize other rental desks are pricier last minute. Not this traveler. I jumped online and booked a car with Hertz UK. Because it was already after 1 PM, I chose a 4 PM pickup. But when I went to Hertz early, they gave me the car right away--a new, clean, 1-year-old vehicle, and the price really included all insurance: CDW, LIS, and more. They charged exactly $162.67. No conversion bullshit, no hidden fees, no scams. Bottom line: Avoid BBB rental in Los Cabos at all cost. They lure you in with a flat "all-inclusive" price, then nail you with hidden charges using fake exchange rates and hand you garbage cars. Book through Hertz UK or another trustworthy international channel where CDW, LIS, and other essential insurances are truly included in a transparent, fair price. BBB is nothing but a scam disguised as a rental company. Don't fall for it. Me cobraron exactamente $162.67 USD. No caigas.

Renting a car was one of the most confusing and intimidating aspects of planning our trip to Baja,…read morebut it ultimately wasn't so bad! A lot of negative reviews discuss tensions around insurance on check-in and overzealous inspections on return. I can't promise that you won't experience that at Alamo, but they treated me well in December 2025. I chose to reserve directly through Alamo's Mexican website (and used translation to make sure I understood what I was signing on for). I wanted to minimize the risk that I would expect something that was promised by a third-party site or even an American-oriented website. I'd seen recommendations to do this elsewhere, and it worked for me. I also checked with my credit card company (REI, Capital One, Mastercard) using mycardbenefits.com to print a proof of rental coverage, because Mexican law requires all cars/drivers to have the following: theft, liability for damages/injuries to third parties (TPL), comprehensive coverage costs due to a collision (CDW), and medical expenses for all occupants of the vehicle. Alamo's minimal insurance package included third-party liability (TPL) and personal accident coverage. My credit card covered collision damage (CDW) as well as theft and comprehensive coverage. I knew I was taking a risk each time I drove, because I didn't want to have to navigate an accident in a foreign country let alone two collaborating insurance systems. That said, I feel that this minimalist insurance would have worked if the worst had happened. You're welcome to get the full insurance; a lot of people recommend it for peace of mind. I was trying to thread the needle between not falling for a scam, signing on for a miserable experience, and not paying any more than I had to for our rental/insurance. Here's how our rental pricing worked out: (MXN) Time and mileage 9 days x 606.56=$5459.04 Third Party Liability Protection 9 days x 273.6=$2462.4 Personal Accident Insurance 9 days x 60.8=$547.19 Taxes: 16% on total reservation $1598.88 Airport use charge 18% $1524.36 Total: $11591.9 Mexican / $629.35 US (on 11/28/25) When we reached the Los Cabos airport, Alamo had a fixer and driver stationed at the exit to take us to their office. I was able to communicate with Alamo Mexico when our flight was delayed via WhatsApp that I found on their homepage. The check-in process was painless. The desk agent spoke English comfortably and didn't pressure us to change our insurance or other choices. I had printed the proof of insurance out as well as our reservation and other documents, including Alamo's insurance requirements language from their terms of service, but he only looked at the credit card confirmation. My Renault Logan was in decent shape. There were a few cosmetic blemishes and dings that the agent and I agreed were present at the start. I highly recommend taking your time to video and photograph the rental car comprehensively when you check it out. I didn't notice at first, but the gasket around the driver's side door had tears in it from the start. This wasn't an issue on check-in, but I worried that my pictures weren't going to do it justice if they noted that it hadn't been on our check-out damage inventory. The Logan we rented was a nice car. It had relatively high clearance for a small sedan (Always look out for speed bumps! They are not always well signed!) We were able to drive it on a mix of paved and somewhat well maintained gravel roads to and around Cabo Pulmo, Santiago, La Paz, Todos Santos, and Los Cabos. It didn't have cruise control or CarPlay/Android Auto, but it did have a touchscreen-based stereo with Bluetooth/USB connectivity and a backup camera as well as A/C. It got reasonable gas mileage and only needed one fill-up for over 540 km (335 miles) of driving. The return went very smoothly, and the staff were eager to leave a positive impression. They inspected the car without trying to find imaginary issues (rocks hitting the windshield or damage to the rims aren't covered by most rental insurance packages). I'd rent from Alamo again.

I had a confirmed reservation with Alamo at SJD that included Third Party Liability insurance. When…read moreI arrived, the counter staff told me I had to buy Personal Accident Insurance and roadside assistance, claiming it was required by Mexican law. I pushed back, told them I understood those were optional, but they refused to rent me the car unless I agreed. I eventually paid under protest. After the trip, I checked Alamo Mexico's own website and confirmed that the extra coverages they sold me are optional and not legally required. I contacted the Alamo Mexico right away. They refused to refund me for those charges. Since then, I've gone through months of follow-ups with Alamo US and Enterprise. I've had reps admit this violated their policy and promised to escalate, but nothing ever came of it. I've now been told there's "nothing more they can do." It's one thing to offer optional add-ons. It's another to falsely claim they're required by law to pressure customers at the counter. If you're renting at SJD, don't go here.

There were some smaller inconveniences (over an hour late to pick us up at the airport, not having enough room in the vehicle to fit myself and the 4 people I was travelling with without us having to sit on each other's laps, vehicle being in below average to average condition at best, etc.), which our group was more than willing to overlook...no problem. However, when we got to All In Car to sign the paperwork (which should have been our first sign that something was off since the previous year the car was just dropped off at the airport/we signed everything there), we were given 2 options - pay $500 for "optional" full-coverage insurance OR pay 10% of the vehicle's cost if any damage was found on it. The vehicle was already beat up - scratches everywhere, bumper taped up/falling off, cracks in the windshield, etc., so it wasn't hard to see that All In Car was going to make us financially responsible for some much needed repairs on the van that we didn't create or just wanted some extra money in their pockets. We kindly asked about the policy and mentioned that we had been using the company for the past 3 years without any issues. You know you're fully getting ripped off when the previous owner of the company (who we had rented through the previous years) would not make eye contact with anyone in the group while the "new policy" was being explained by the new management company. Additionally, none of this was relayed to us upon booking. Should we have known, we would have rented through a different company and happily paid a higher daily rate versus being swindled at the last minute when we didn't have any other options. All in all, what was supposed to be a $400 rental for 5 days cost us close to 1K...for a below average-to-average small minivan. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. You've been warned!

We arrived and went to the counter to rent the vehicle. We told them we decline all insurance coverage as it even states on their wall, additional insurance is NOT REQUIRED. I said I refused insurance and then they had to find a supervisor to remove it. I also declined fuel. When we returned the car the next week we drove it over it over an hour back to the airport. They told us everything was fine. We put filled the tank with fuel before we returned the car. When we received a copy of the final bill via email (this was a mistake, we should have demanded a physical copy), we found that they charged us for an entire tank of gas that we did not authorize and vehicle damage as they said vehicle had a flat tire. The vehicle didn't have a flat tire, we drove it an hour to get it to the airport, the tires were fine. Basically they will try to scam you here in all kind of ways!!! Stay Away!!! Also, when I sent in a dispute they refused to reimburse us for the "vehicle damage" aka flat tire and the fuel. They don't even have the right vehicle on the photos (see attached picture). What occurred at Hertz Cabo Airport (SJD) was not a mistake or "inventory issue" - it was a…read moredeliberate bait-and-switch scheme executed under the Hertz brand. Upon arrival, we checked in at the Hertz counter near baggage claim and were explicitly instructed by a Hertz employee to go outside and locate a woman holding a Hertz sign for shuttle transport to the rental facility. We followed these instructions exactly. The woman with the Hertz sign reviewed her list, confirmed that our reservation was on it, and then informed us that no Hertz vehicles were available. This explanation is indefensible. We had: * A confirmed reservation * Hertz President's Circle status * Arrival at the instructed pickup location * Written proof we were "on the list" When challenged, the representative offered shifting and contradictory excuses, including: * Booking through a third party * Not prepaying (which is not required nor standard for rental car reservations) She then asked how much we paid and what insurance we selected -- information that is irrelevant unless price manipulation is the intent. Immediately afterward, she summoned an individual from a different rental agency who offered a vehicle at a rate over FOUR TIMES higher than our confirmed reservation. This is textbook consumer deception. For clarity: AVASA franchises multiple brands at SJD (Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Firefly, Alamo, etc.) operating out of the same facility with a shared vehicle pool. The assertion that "Hertz has no cars" while sister brands miraculously have availability at predatory prices is patently false and intentionally misleading. When we requested to be taken to the Hertz office to speak with a manager, the shuttle was refused, effectively coercing us to accept the inflated alternative or be stranded. This conduct constitutes: * False advertising * Bait-and-switch sales practices * Misrepresentation of availability * Coercive and deceptive consumer practices It is shocking that Hertz permits its brand to be used this way. This was one of the most unethical experiences I've ever had while traveling internationally. Avoid Hertz at Cabo Airport at all costs. If you book here, expect your reservation to be meaningless and your arrival to be met with extortion-level pricing under duress. This location should be investigated.
