Our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get another until the following morning. We had reserved a car from Budget months in advance. We called them to let them know our situation and that we still wanted the car we had reserved. The representative on the phone cancelled our reservation and proceeded to tell us that the car would now be $400 more. We questioned why when she confirmed that the car we reserved was still sitting at the airport. She told us because we did not pick it up at the original time. There was no way we were paying $400 more so we reserved a car in a smaller class for about $40 more. When we got to Dayton I was fully confident that we would explain our situation in person to the counter representative and get our original reserved rental car for the original price. He called the manager over and the manager told us that we should not have cancelled our reservation because we had 24 hours to pick up the car. He said there was nothing he could do. I still felt confident that after I returned home and contacted Budget they would apologize and probably compensate us the $40 more we spent for a smaller car. The response we got to the email we sent clearly showed that they didn't even read what we were complaining about. A second email was sent with the same response that didn't match the original complaint. I'm still a little in disbelief at the horrible customer service! read more

Had reservations for a car rental and tried to pay with debit. Clerk said he had to run a soft credit check and that it didnt come up. As in- nothing returned for the credit check. Since it was a problem I said, ok, let me just use my credit card, and i will call the company in the morning. He said no, cant do business with you at all. It was 12:30 at night and we had just gotten off a plane and the man would not work with us at all. Just nope, no car for you. And very rude. Walked over to National and they gave us no hassle what so ever. In fact, she got me a very good deal and was very pleasant. You lost a customer for life, Budget. I will use National when I travel from here on. read more

Never ever renting from Budget ever again. Waited an hour and a half to get my car to find out they gave the car I reserved away. They added on the "protection" plan without telling me. When I asked to speak to a manger, I had to wait for her to finish her snack to tell me that there was nothing that they could do. I called their regional manager who said that it was my fault. Totally disappointed!! I had two 15 passenger vans rented from Budget for 8 months for a major relay race in Kentucky. When my drivers went to pick the vans up, they got totally screwed. Budget jacked with them for 2 hours before telling them that the vans were no longer "available"! This was awful for my bourbon chase team! When you have 6 runners that are running non-stop over a 32 hour time period, there needs to be ample space. We had been counting on these vans heavily. To be told the night before your race that you don't have the vans, was absolute crap! We were left scrambling at midnight trying to find 2, 15 passenger vans. The state was sold out completely! To make matters worse, the " manager" would not get on the phone with me and said that he was very busy and would call me...guess what, that call NEVER came! What a classless group in Dayton. No one ever apologized or tried to correct things for us. We totally lucked out with Enterprise, who happened to have a last minute cancellation. I will NEVER use Budget again and you can bet I will be giving corporate a call first thing tomorrow! read more

Beware of letting Avis Reps fill in for you, I was there last week and was told a blatant lie. Since I opted to use my bank card vs. a credit card, I was told they would do a credit check and only scan my card once; how is that possible without a social security number. In addition, there would be a $200 fee held back, I'm aware of this since my company has a corporate account that employees use. Somebody needs to give AVIS a lesson in the truth and customer service. read more

Rented a car from Budget when my insurance company, USAA, recommended them. I rent cars a lot! Usually from Enterprise. 1st time for Budget, though. I picked my car up their counter at around 8:30 am. Ryan "assisted" me. He was the most aloof person in customer service that I have met. He barely talked to me and seemed a bit put out that I would even show up at his counter. There were no other customers in line or in the terminal! When I returned the car yesterday, the 12th at the approximate time I had entered on my online reservation. Little did I know, when I was "late" I was charged for another day!!! I was also told that this information is in the terms and conditions that I should have read before renting. I should have read the whole contract. It's my fault. Next time, I will NOT rent from Budget. I don't care if USAA recommends them. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

I never ever do this - BUT I have to leave a review for Victor Banjo (MGR) and Diesha Patterson (CSR) at Avis/Budget in Dayton, Ohio's airport pickup. Let's just say that these two were able to help my husband and I with a switch from Baltimore in route to a funeral in St. Louis. Being that it was a daunting time for a roadtrip - it made a world of a difference for these two to offer help to us with humility and professionalism! First of all Avis and Budget are partners at this location. I returned an "Avis" vehicle at 8PM and realized later that night when I got home that I forgot a very expensive pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses hanging on the sun visor. I immediately cal the front desk and inquire, but they were too lazy to actually go out and secure the glasses for me and told me to return to get them from lost and found the next morning. I though it would be okay to wait until the next morning because the cleaners probably deal with that kind of thing all the time and they probably have policies against taking things left in the car. So I show up around lunch time the next day and they tell me there is nothing in the lost and found and the vehicle was "probably" already sent back out. Meanwhile I'm staring dead at the van we rented saying "I see it right there." and the reply I got was literally "I don't think so." Eventually I got the customer service rep to type in the info and confirm that the van was 20 feet away from us. I then looked in the van for my glasses to no avail. I then requested to speak to a manager because it was obvious at that point that someone had stole the glasses. I was calm and polite throughout the whole process but the whole staff was being rude and vague about their actions to help me. Eventually a manager who was a young man walked up and without even wanting to hear what my issue was he blurts out "Unfortunately our policy states that we a re not reliable for any items left in the car." This immediately tells me that he does not care and their real policy is "If we see something left behind that we like, we will take it and you cannot do anything about it." He says they try to monitor cameras to make sure the cleaners don't take things but he doesn't say anything beyond that. The whole experience made me feel like they knew exactly what really happened and they didn't even want to try to help me. So somewhere out there, an Avis car cleaner just got a brand new pair of Ray-Bans. Even if the companies policy states that they are not liable, I do not think that the workers should be able to easily take advantage of anyone who leaves an item in the car. This lack of integrity and genuine customer service disgusts me. read more

I had an enormous hassle picking up the rental on 8/3, because when I phoned in my reservation in the middle of July they didn't enter all my coupon codes. Because of that, when I got to the counter I was informed that I had to go online and create an account and "verify" everything 48 hours in advance. I had to get out of line, call customer service, argue with them for nearly 45 minutes, then get back and wait in line again just so that I can pay the full fee up front and get a partial refund later. It shouldn't have taken over an hour just to pick up a car! To top it off, the car class that I wanted was one that I needed to be very roomy. Instead, I ended up with a "sporty" car that was incredibly uncomfortable for the VERY long trip we had in store (16+ hours one-way, then 16+ hours back - with 2 kids. Eeek!). What if I hadn't had the money up front to pay for what I needed in the first place? It was horrible customer service. I'll be thinking thrice before renting from Budget again. read more

Booked a luxury class car by calling their main office number listed online, WEEKS ahead of time. Went the day of my reservation to pick up the car and was told i was not allowed to rent in that class. (Rewind to the time of booking the rental). When i had called i specifically asked if there we're ANY age restrictions on certain classes of vehicles, due to the fact I am under 25. I was assured by the agent on the phone that it would be of no issue but i would have to pay a small fee each day for an underage surcharge. I agreed to this and made the reservation, confirmed it and everything. Now, fast forward back to time of pickup. Not only was I not allowed to get the vehicle i had specifically reserved, but the agents we're unwilling to even contact the main office to clear it up or get the manager to do so either. So regrettably I caved and agreed to a lower class vehicle, specifically a Dodge Avenger, which their website confirmed was available, only to find out they DID NOT actually have one...but i was "Upgraded" to a Kia Optima (not much of an upgrade for me)...the whole fiasco took over an hour and a half to resolve. Very unprofessional service, and not willing to negotiate with their customers by any means or to make their experience more pleasant. I do NOT recommend Budget to anyone and will NEVER use them again. read more
