Wow. This Avis is horrible. Why did I even make a reservation if I had to wait an hour for a car after a long day of travel? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a reservation? Clerk: I know why we have reservations. Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. I reserved a full size pickup about a week prior to the date we needed it, but when we showed up, we were informed they don't have any full size pickups at that location at all. I was not told prior to showing up that this was the case, and my best option was to hope one of their competitors could help me. Thankfully, Enterprise/Alamo had what I needed. I think I can write my review now that they have accepted the car. When I made the reservation, I booked a Jetta. I am very cheap when it comes to rentals. I used my AARP card and we got a great deal. My extravagant husband changed the reservation without me knowing and booked a Dodge RAM Bighorn. This was $300 more than what I paid. Because the car had my credit card as a prepay reservation...with my husband as the driver, the agent said he couldn't allow my husband to upgrade without putting everything in his name. Well, what happens to my prepaid? The agent said I had to call customer service to request a credit. It was a fiasco, but Avis did me right and issued the credit. Word to the wise...apparently, if you prepay for a reservation and change anything, they will redo the reservation and leave you to request a credit on the first reservation. May 26, 2021 I rented a Nissan Sentra from Avis Rent-A-Car at James A. Cox Airport in Dayton Ohio. I paid $534 plus a $200 deposit which came up to $734. May 29, 2021 I have noticed that the front tires on the Nissan Sentra were bald. So the next day I returned the rental car to Avis. I feel that this is unacceptable to rent an unsafe car to a valued customer. I feel I should be compensated for it because I feel like my life was in jeopardy . Got there 10:15PM on 4/23/24 and there was only one person working there. On top of that Avis computers weren't working so there was a line of people waiting. Soon after the computers were back up and but since the poor guy was the only only one there, he was at the desk and there was a line of cars waiting to be let out at of the lot. Probably took the group of renters around with me an hour in total. This guys was very courteous and apologized to everyone, everyone felt pretty bad for him. AVIS preferred is so quick and easy. I was so grateful they were open after midnight as I was on the last plane into Dayton! Garage is right across street from baggage claim so very easy access and departure. My car exceeded expectations for the class reserved. I think the other reviews are way off their mark.... I paid for my car 3 weeks ahead of time. When I got to the airport they wanted another $250 deposit. They should have told me ahead of time. One week after I drop the car off they charged me over $20 extra and did not tell me why. Cannot get a hold of anybody with customer service to give me an explanation either. BEWARE: FRADULENT CHARGES on my credit card from this place! I turned the car in with a full gas tank, paid my bill, all was good...or so I thought. A month later I noticed my work credit card had a balance of more than $70 remaining. Weird. After researching the charges, I found out they marked me down as returning with an empty gas tank. So empty in fact, they somehow filled it with more of their super expensive fuel than that model of car could hold. Slam dunk case right? Wrong. They required I dig up an old gas receipt proving I filled it just before returning before they'd take the charge off. Luckily I still had it, but I wonder what percentage of people would still have their old receipt to fight off this false charge... read more

I don't think the girl at the counter could be any more hateful or useless. They wanted me to change reservation but didn't know how to use their own website. I walked to a rental counter next to Avis, handed my drivers license and walked out with a rental car. I'm not some kid. I am in my 50s and have rented close to 100 cars. The absolute worst Avis I've ever encountered. While I continue to be a loyal Avis user in all other locations, my experiences with the DAY Avis is horrible. On one occasion, it took them 4 days to "find" and check in the vehicle (no one working during early morning flights) and they tried to charge me for the 4 days. I had to prove that I had flown out 4 days prior. The latest incident was the Avis agent had went home prior to the flight landing and didn't assign me a vehicle (Avis Preferred). Had to take a cab to the hotel and deal with Avis Customer Service which isn't 24/7 and are available 7:30am Central time (I was at and Eastern time location). Significant productivity loss due to inept staff at DAY Avis to plan and provide adequate customer service. This location is in desperate need of new management! read more

The process was easy. As an Avis preferred customer I simple go to the big board...look for my name and then pick up my car from the assigned space number. Staff here was very helpful. Except the car i was given was parked in a Budget stall. I was told that the two companies share cars. I had no idea those two companies had a partnership. My car was trashed from the outside. Scratches and BB holes...not totally bad but enough for people to notice. Always write down the damage!!! You do not want to be charged for others disrespect! The return process was not fun. The old security guy yelled at me at 5am. Told me I parked the car in the wrong spot...thanks...I like getting yelled at. The signs were not clearly marked. Then I walked over to the Avis booth and the old lady got in the car and drove by me. So I had to walk all the way back to my car to give her my keys. This Avis location is conveniently located in the baggage claim area. It is to the far left side of the car rental agencies. There were two ladies working the front desk but only one of them was actually working on issuing vehicles. They both had a great attitude but the line was long. I was 3rd back and it still took 25 minutes before I got to the front of the line. The rest of the process was pretty easy, I was given the keys and found the car in the parking garage. The car was full, clean, and easily accessible. I have to admit, it was a little frustrating to see two people at the counter and only one working with the customers. read more

Awful experience overall. Like everyone's review, I had to wait for an hour or more. I'm pregnant and I had to stand in line that long. There were 2 people assisting, the line was long and budget and Avis were merged. My company usually pays for the rental in advance and when the lady took my ID, she said it wasn't paid for yet. I had to wait a few minutes so my company can cover the charges. The lady assisted 2 more customers before me. Once it was my turn again, she had to process my reservation from the start, again. When she finally assigned me a car, she said I'll have to walk to the garage and they will pull car for me. I had to walk down the street to find it. And when I got there, 4-5 people were all waiting (same people from the line earlier). Like I said, I'm pregnant and I had already been standing too long earlier and now had to wait for 30 mins to get the car I rented. No benches or anything. Service sucks!!!! read more

I've had much better. On a service-front, they've let me down twice in the last month alone. This is on top of Avis' general "I don't care" attitude that pops up at lots of their locations across the USA. They never seem to have my pre-paid fuel option and try to charge me $9/gallon to fill my nearly empty tank. Yes, they fix it when I complain, but I should not have to correct this. I rented a car from Avis at their airport location in Dayton, OH. The employees at the airport location were helpful, and I was happy with the car I received. This review is really more about Avis's customer service representatives who I spoke with on the phone and the company's policies in general. I rented the car because I was visiting my partner's father who was terminally ill with cancer. He passed away after my travel arrangements were made, and I tried to extend my reservation so I could stay for the funeral. I spoke with three separate customer service representatives about the situation. Not a single one of them offered their condolences. Rather, they wanted me to pay over twice my original daily rate, and their only excuse was "rates change all the time." In special circumstances (like a death in the family), I expect people to be flexible and try to accommodate your needs, not gauge you for more money. These people are shameless. read more

Whenever you rent a car from Avis be very careful when you initial and sign the rental contract. When I rented a car, I was asked "Do you take full responsibility for the vehicle?" I answered, "Yes". I didn't read where I was asked to initial and sign. The customer service agent had circled Avis' full insurance coverages, which consists of: CDW (Collision damage waiver), also referred to as as LDW (Loss damage waiver): ALI (Additional liability insurance): PAI (Personal accident insurance): PEP (Personal effects protection): The CDW cost $107.96 plus tax. The ALI, PAI, and PEP cost 97.68. Thats a total insurance cost of more than $205 for three days. The cost just to rent the car was $114 (through Priceline). So the insurance cost is more expensive than the rental costs. I paid nearly $400 to rent a intermediate car for 3 days. BTW, customer service and the management are not interesting in customer satisfaction. Their attitude is, if you signed for it you pay for it. Update: I decided to post my dissatisfaction on the Avis Facebook page about once a week. Each of my posts vanished after a few hours. In my post, I mentioned that I was also tweeting about my opinion about Avis. After about a month, I discovered that Avis had quietly posted a credit to my VISA card. This location seems to be vastly understaffed. After waiting at the Avis booth we were told to go to the Budget booth and the person there would take care of us. There was only one person working and he was dealing with an issue with a customer and we had to wait. During that time what seemed to be an Avis employee was poking around the Avis desk but wouldn't help us. After being assigned the vehicle we went to leave and were left sitting at the exit for awhile with no one there to scan and let us leave. I got out of the car and walked to the entrance booth where I was told that there was only one person working and he would be there when he was finished helping the person in that booth. Having been in the custom yet service industry you come to understand that things happen, sometimes the customer is right and sometimes their not that's just a part of how the industry works but, there's a definitive line between competent and incompetence and Avis has truly crossed over to incompetence. EXAMPLE: we reserved a rental from Avis (first time customers) only to drive across town to the Dayton airport to discover that we could not rent because we didn't meet the requirements and this was after payment was rendered. Then after navigating a clumsy phone system to get our payment returned only to discover it takes 10 business days to receive our return. Be careful about renting cars from Avis at the location of Vandalia. Make sure you recheck your stuff before you return the car. If you accidentally leave your purse in the car, the service would not be afraid of using your either credit or debit card. Their customer service have a don't care attitude.I am telling this person at the end of the phone that someone used my card that was left in the return car but he did not seem to be concerned about a thing he was more insistent on the fact that my purse was there and I can pick it up at my convenience.like of course I know its there but that does not give anyone a right to use my card at burger king. I rented an AVIS car 19 Sept to 21 Sept, 2018. I had made the reservation 3 weeks beforehand and had paid ~$150 upfront. When I was picking up the car, the attendant told me I owed $0. After I dropped off the car and flew back home, I saw additional charges of $47.66 and $1.50 on my credit card. I learned that these were several surcharges, facility use, energy recovery, license fee etc. That $150 payment was a reservation fee - yet if had not picked up the car I would have lost much of it. I don't understand how this company hasn't gone bankrupt. The worst customer service I've ever experienced!!!! I turned my rental car in over a week ago during the after hours drop off. They still show me as having the car even though I'm sure it's rented out to someone else by now. There is NO way to reach anyone at the front desk. When you call this location's number it transfers you to a call center in India. Customer service is telling me there's a work order to review my case and I'll have to wait 5 more days. ALL THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY HAS TO DO IS ASK SOMEONE AT THE FRONT DESK IF THE CAR IS THERE, BUT THEY CAN'T CALL THE LOCATION EITHER. I am a local resident and I have rented from this location twice...and both times I was disappointed with the lackluster service. Being a preferred member means nothing at the Dayton Airport Avis location...no car assigned when I arrived, the employee helping me was unfriendly, and no employees available when I returned my most recent rental. Plus, the Avis app doesn't seem to work at the airport location...so I was told by the employee helping me. I'm going back to the downtown location on 1st St...the service is much better there. read more
