Such a great place to see a show! We saw Hamilton at the Buell and was blown away with the entire production (obviously the show, but also the staff and operations!). They were extremely organized, the place is extremely clean, and the overall experience is just fantastic! The venue has great décor, plenty of restroom options, comfy seats, etc.! Also, huge shout out to them having great handicap and nursing accommodations for new mothers and people needing extra assistance. So overlooked but they truly go above and beyond in this arena! Note: parking can be difficult downtown so give yourself time to get situated. read more

Nice venue in the downtown. Came here for a ballet show and it was quite busy. I lived not far, so I decided to walk here and avoid all the vehicle traffic. The theatre was very efficient, my ticket was at will-call. I picked it up and went straight in. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The show itself was amazing and left me in awe. My seat had great views of the performance, however the only complaint I have are the people behind me. They were a younger crowd and were making a lot of noises. Not a big deal. I have been coming to the Buell for thirty years. I love the ease of finding parking in their garage. Location is great, within walking distance to many local eateries! Love love love going to the Buell Theatre for a performance. I've seen a few shows at this theatre and have always been please with the whole process. They always have great selections of shows playing every year too. The theatre is always clean, the staff are always friendly and helpful. The only downside is the seats I suppose. My back kills me after sitting in their seats for 3 hours. But it never stops me from coming back. We saw Les Mis last night and it was an amazing show, we already will be back later this year to see Beetlejuice! read more

Most any traveling broadway show coming from NY comes to the Buell. The staff and ushers are exceptionally friendly and are there to help however they can. The ticket prices are usually pretty affordable and it's always clean. Tips: The bathrooms upstairs or downstairs are usually empty, and the ones on the main level are always packed. They recently installed metal detectors and staff to search your bags, but sadly that is becoming the norm. Better safe than sorry, but be sure to bring a bag smaller than 12" x 12". read more

I was NOT expecting to be so blown away by the Buell. The interior is absolutely gorgeous. Came here to watch Hamilton with a friend and felt enamored by the architecture. Parking in the adjacent structure is easy but annoying to navigate post-show through the crowds, so I parked in a different nearby garage. I appreciate the Buell staff and ADA-friendliness of the theater. It was a comfortable and classy experience overall, and I know I'll be back for another musical. read more

Some of ya'll haven't been to a Broadway show at an SF theater & it shows....Seriously though, while the historic architecture is nice & all, there is really something to be said about a modern theater complex with all the bells & whistles. This was not only our first Broadway show since pre-pandemic times but also since moving to our new CO home! For 30 years, San Jose & SF were my home for all things theater. We can confidently say we won't be missing either, & are happy to call DCPA our new home. To see a show in the Bay area, you need to dodge poop, needles, hordes of homeless, & somehow locate parking or bathrooms in the theater, both of which were in short supply. Not so in Denver. The complex is massive & it even has its on well sized parking structure attached. We saw Moulin Rouge. Buell itself was also massive, clean, & easy to navigate. Probably the only thing you could ask for is a smidge more leg room & I noticed some people were a bit hot, though I was fine. It was a top notch performance! I hope to get back to booking our full seasons of shows like we used to do pre-pandemic, though I'm cautiously buying them one show at a time as I will not be attending any shows if the mask/vax requirements ever get put back into place to see a show. read more

Really, pack 600 people into an area in front of the doors and keep them there until 15 minutes before the show? Poor consideration to your customers who paid a substantial amount for tickets. We saw phantom of the opera last night and the performance was moving. The theater is wonderfully laid out and that parking garage was a breeze to get out even though it was packed. That's a rarity! After emailing with support: NO refunds. I'm not able to retrieve my tickets until 2 days before the fucking event (so selling them to a stranger will be pretty fucking hard) The support team suggests "reselling the tickets on your own". The Buell Theater offers many top-notch productions and I've enjoyed a number of them over the years. It is easy to move about in the lobby and theater, and the staff is helpful. However, at 2800 seats, it is a very large venue and I have found that unless you can afford and obtain fairly close seats (orchestra seating rows through single letters, e.g., row Y), you are just too far away to really enjoy the production. I've sat in the mezzanine twice and while I had a clear view of the stage, it's like watching a distant TV screen. Sometimes you can't make out who on stage is talking and it's hard to fully engage. Small binoculars are helpful for seeing details. It must be even worse in the balcony seating. So unless I can get good seats at the Buell for select performances, in future I will opt for the smaller venues within the DCPA complex which don't have the Broadway extravaganzas, but still offer very good productions. read more

We came here to see the nutcracker and the theatre is absolutely stunning. There's tons of space, decoration, and even the metal detector/bag check part wasn't too terrible because the people were so friendly and didn't take forever to do it. At one point we got lost trying to find our seats but the staff was very friendly at pointing out which floor to go on. I just wish that the staff from our actual floor didn't make us go to the other side of our seats because we had to go through a bunch of people to get to our seats when we could have just sat down immediately through her entrance. I think she wasn't familiar with seating. But seats were very cozy and gave us an awesome view of the show! read more

I love this place so much! I have seen a lot of shows here and they are all amazing. The parking garage is spacious and inexpensive. I love how it leads you straight to the front doors of the theater. The theater is clean and the concessions are really good. You even have the choice of prepaying for drinks at intermission. They do a great job of ushering people and keeping the crowds moving so there aren't traffic jams. The stage is clear and they even have closed captioning on one side. There are several restaurants all around and within waking distance. read more

2 Male Ushers were in my face and harassing me about my service dog not tucking into a little bity space. As my service dog is trained to be a blockade between me and whomever is in my face he would push his way out to be between myself and them. I'm appalled by these two grown men's behavior. They are not setup for accessibility for large breed service dogs for mobility either. The manager that I spoke with was a very nice gal that asked if she could help us find better seating to accommodate my Akbash and I said yes please. The manager was amazing and I appreciate her help, the last usher that was harassing me people to us speaking came back later and started sniping at my friend about pictures and recording while multiple other people in this facility were doing the same thing like almost all concert goers do. The fact that the original usher put his hands on me is completely unacceptable. At minimum it could be a misdemeanors assault charge at the most it's felony assault on someone with disabilities and mine were obvious since I walked in with a service dog team. Praise of the behavior of those Ushers the concert that my friends and I saw was amazing! read more

The Gem of The Denver Performing Arts Complex Temple Hoyne Buell was born in Chicago in 1895. His father, Thomas Hoyne, was at one time a United States District Attorney for Illinois; he was eventually elected Mayor of Chicago in 1875, but a Circuit Court later declared the election null and void. Temple Hoyne Buell served in France during WWI where he was exposed to the colorless gas Phosgene, a chemical weapon. He moved to Denver, CO in 1921 where he sought treatment for tuberculosis. I have been to the Buell Theatre at least eight times over the past four years to see their broadway and off broadway shows. Majority of the shows I have enjoyed - I am from NYC so I may be a little biased in comparison - they certainly held their own. I recently saw Anastasia and have to applaud their rendition. I love the music and story telling of the film and was pleasantly surprised with the show adaptation. The performance matured, new songs were introduced as well as new characters to make it more relatable and realistic. A must see in my book! *The only downside is the entrance line. A lot of folks missed the first 8mins of the performance due to the lines not moving fast enough.* For anyone 30 & under I highly recommend signing up for the "radvantage" membership (only $20 a year) which gives members up to 75% off tickets for specific shows for you and a friend (max two tickets). read more

The Buell is one of my favorite places in Denver. You really can't go wrong with any shows they bring through. The seats are comfortable and they just installed something to help people who are hard of hearing continue to participate in going to the theater. 1. The DCPA is the second most well rounded theater complex in the nation as well as being the second largest. This means that we often get shows that other cities don't get. For instance, last summer, Frozen premiered in Denver before moving on to Broadway this Spring. We also get new big name shows like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hanson, Waitress...as well as old shows like Wicked and Book of Mormon. There are usually at least 10 shows I am interested in seeing every year that come through. 2. For someone hard of hearing like myself sometimes the theater isn't the best place but recently the Buell installed a coil system that allows hearing aids to pick up the music better. They also have extra headsets that you can check out at coat check. Unfortunately there's only one show per headline that comes through that offers a signing interpreter for people who are deaf and it's usually a matinee. 3. The Buell recently installed security. Leave yourself some extra time before the show. I have done this twice now and both times it took about 10 minutes. You cannot bring in outside food or drink and don't bring an oversized bag. Make sure to take all of the stuff out of your pockets. They will check your bag and then you go through a metal detectors. It's pretty easy quick as long as everyone is paying attention. 4. Buy tickets early if there is something you really want to see but if you are only in need of a single ticket you can luck into seeing a show the same day you call. I called yesterday to change a ticket to last nights show and got a great seat. There are often times odd seats that don't get used especially during week night shows. 5. If you are going to a week night show, park in the garage at the dcpa. It's usually $10 and very convenient. It also doesn't take forever to get out. If you are attending on a weekend I would park across the street from the Aloft hotel for $20. It is almost impossible to park in the garage if there are multiple events at the DCPA on a weekend and it's worth walking 2 blocks to be able to get out quickly and get home. read more

I have seen many an event at the Buell, and I like the theatre. I've been in the middle and off to the side, and I've never had a complaint about not being able to see the stage. The sound is great (I'm not a stage snob, so maybe I'm off, who knows?). I have no idea what the "obstructed view" seats look like though. I plan on not finding out. It's easy to find your seat, but the ushers will help you out if needed. Be sure to leave your weapons at home, as you do have to go through a metal detector upon entering (none of the other theatres in the complex offer this). This can be a bit of a pain, as I have had to come straight from work before with my laptop bag, and apparently, that is frowned upon because the people don't like looking through all of the pockets and such. I get it, safety. But I gotta work too, yo! A lot of people here are saying that the dress is quite casual, which is fine with me. I'm okay with wearing jeans here, as long as you have nice shoes and a dressy shirt. Still a bit casual, but there's still effort here. Don't hate the player, hate the game, son! The Denver Center is generally easy to find your way, and the Buell is no exception. There are tons of options for dinner and drinks before or after the show. You can even dine at the Limelight on show nights (although, it's a bit expensive and pretentious for my tastes). There is lots of parking at the Center, but I advise to find parking elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants around that offer free valet, or you can park in the nearby Independence Plaza for $6. I can't wait for my next show, whatever that may be. read more

Even for a rather full event, the venue provides an intimate gathering space. As others have mentioned, the rows are certainly on the long side... as is the security line. Front row seats for the Donna Summer musical, and as always the Buell experience was first class. Friendly attentive bartenders and staff, a great venue.The stage needs a little work, maybe this was part of the production and not Buell but the 'frame' around the stage was a bit tattered, no big deal. Brunch at the Nickel first, that is just terrific! It's a sparsely furnished stage with constant changes for the play, which was very fun and these young people can really belt out the music, very impressive. It was an almost all female cast, often playing men and that was a bit 'off' looking and distracting but, good on them for their performances. It's a great venue, this is a fun production and makes for a great afternoon or evening out. read more

This is actually the first negative review I've ever given. I usually try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt when I have a bad experience. I feel like it would be a public disservice to not relay my experience in this case. I ordered tickets for a show (Tina) as a gift to friends. Although in state, there was travel involved, so they booked a hotel. I received tickets to a show at a different time than the tickets that were ordered and confirmed. I called and was assured the correct tickets would be emailed. I never received the correct tickets. I received a call the day of the event saying that my original tickets were not available and that they could not book more tickets for me because there were no tickets available. My options were tickets to the show time we could not attend or a refund. Same day notice made it impossible to cancel the hotel. In my opinion both the ticket seller & the Buell bear responsibility. I don't plan to book with that seller (thank goodness it wasn't Ticketmaster!) or the Buell in the future. There are always other options for entertainment. read more

First visit here and I have to say I was impressed. The theater lobby is bright and well lit. There is a nice ba area for snacks and drinks. Quite a bit of seating areas were you can relax,chat and people watch in a really kind of cool space. I love that there is an area that you can go outside for fresh air and sit in small,cozy seating areas with your companions. Although I didn't take advantage of the opportunity, the bar will let you pre-order your beverages for intermission time. The employees were helpful and courteous. The seating is pretty standard. I had nothing to compare but my other half is almost 7 feet tall and I chose unwisely. For us, the next visit will have to be in the back so he can get up and stretch. Darn his long legs! Inside the theater, it's nicely appointed. Well lit for sure. The sound was great, I could hear all the way in my seat and see pretty darn good. Our seating neighbors were helpful in the history of this site and advising us on the possibility of getting a subscription since we really enjoyed our evening out. If you have the opportunity, come out and enjoy your evenng out at the Buell. Will we be back? LOL, yes. We bought tickets for the next show, Tommy. read more

Not certain where all these 5 stars are coming from. One would think over the decades they would listen to the complaints about the pitch of the seats. Not a rocket science issue to figure out and could have been done when it was shut down for covid. We try to never attend a show at Buell for that reason. Unless you are in in the first row of each section, you are not going to see much. Well, other than the heads in front of you and God help you if someone in the row ahead has big hair. Just spent almost 2 hours at Shen Yun only seeing part of the show. (Not as great as they say it is but talented dancers). Then there is the women's bathroom issue. not certain if it is possible to have fewer stalls. Maybe 4 sinks, 2 rolls of paper towels. If you are not waiting forever to use a stall, you are waiting forever to wash your hands and longer to get to the only 2 paper towel machines and one trash can. It's not like you are going to fight "traffic" to get to the other trash on the opposite side of which there is no paper towel machines. Not even going down the concession debacle! Place is really outdated, poorly designed, at max three people up/ down stairs at one time. The place sucks millions from mega money donors, get the pitch of your seats corrected! Then there was the pcr/vaccine issue. I contact them, they say either vaccine or prc test required all through the Performing Arts Center. Contact Shen Yun, they said no. Ended up nothing was required of that nature but very confused about the "rules." On the site, all venues in the complex either do or will require those things, call and told that Shen Yun is not part of it, they are renting the place out different rules, well which is it Buell? Just a not worth the effort any longer. read more

I was waffling between a 3 and 4. This theatre is historic but that also means small and not crazy comfortable seats. The legroom is tight which makes getting in and out not easy. Prices at the concessions is typical of entertainment places. The other show goers told me that the food was acceptable. The small theatre is also more cozy and there is not really a bad seat in the house. That is important to us because I can't afford the expensive seats and it makes the show seem closer even in the cheap seats. If you bring leftovers from your meal before the show with you by mistake, ask if you can check it in coat check. If not, your out of luck. They do allow unopened bottles of water but always check before you bring anything. There is a coat check for your items so you don't need to carry your coats with you. Communication is my only complaint with the theatre. That's because there was a delay for our show but nothing was communicated to theatre goers for a good half hour after start time. I've heard the same from others. Our show got cancelled btw. read more

Parking garage can be really busy depending on if there's other events going on. I always purchase ahead of time since it's a drive for me and I don't want to risk it. Close to everything so that's excellent. Staff is friendly and they recently updated security, but it doesn't take much longer to get through as they have a lot of doors and security on hand. Plenty of room to move around even when it's a sold out show and lots of places to sit if you get there early enough. Bars on every level as well. Clean and easy to navigate. read more

We were orchestra seats and our view was great...however the seats are very close together and if not near the end seats it's quite an ordeal to get out for bathroom breaks. I definitely agree with those (like Cheryl L.) who complained about the seats. They are in good shape, but they are like new versions of movie-theater seats from the 1970's. I am not asking for modern movie-house quality seats (although that would be nice), but something a little more comfortable and a little less narrow (with more padding and better back support) would be greatly appreciated. Also, the line for the men's room during intermission was bad, and the women's line was abominable. It would seem this should also be a priority for an upgrade. The building itself and the stage are beautiful. Although I was a bit warm during the show I attended, I thought the air circulation was surprisingly good. My view, from the left side of floor level (orchestra) was just fine. If I lived closer to downtown, and I had considerably more disposable income, I would definitely consider springing for season tickets. read more

The Temple Buell is a pretty sweet venue. Tickets are usually pretty expensive so it is only worth it to go and see something you are really into. Seating is stadium style so almost any seat you get is a good one. There are two things to be weary of however. First the art is pretty damn ugly, so...if you can, walk around with your eyes closed until you get to your seat. You'll thanks me later. Second, David Sedaris has read parts of his books at the Buell. He is one of the funniest men alive and, at least the last time I was in attendance there was definitely the possibility of pant peeing. So, if your seat is wet insist on a new one......who knows, maybe I sat there before you. read more

Great venue in a great location. Having lived here my whole life I've watched the transformation of the overall DCPA become what it is today and it's pretty great. Six levels of inexpensive ($7-$10) covered parking at the doorstep of the different theatres (plenty of elevators) and there's two decent sized restaurants on the main level to grab a drink before the show. The Buell Theatre has kept its charm, and while we've all gotten bigger as people the seats haven't which is kind of a sore spot with a lot of people, but they're the same width as stadium seats (17"). They could definitely use a re-upholstery job to up the padding some. There aren't too many bad seats in the theatre, you have to get pretty high up in the balcony to not hear or see subtle nuances of the play. Conversely don't go for rows 1-3 either - the orchestra is very distracting. Rows 7-20 are the sweet spot. Bonus; When you order your drink before the show, you can buy your intermission drink at the same time, and when you get out, it's sitting in a special area for you with your name on it, and all the other schmucks have to wait in long lines and probably not get their drink before the next half starts. I highly recommend this option. read more

The Temple Buell is one of the nicer venues in town to see a show. I have seen everything from the big Broadway productions that come to town to musical acts here. I have sat in the absolute last row in the balcony to the orchestra floor seats and I can say without reservation that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Yes, closer is always better However, I have never had an obstructed view or been unable to hear the production. So in my book that is good thing! The theatre is stadium style, so you shouldn't have problems seeing the stage. The only drawback I can think of is that the rows are particularly long (especially on the orchestra level), so if you are in the middle of a row and need to get up or arrive later than the rest of your row, then you will have to step over everyone. Still, the seats are comfy and there is a good amount of leg room. There are bathrooms on each level to accommodate patrons. As a woman I always wish there were a few more, but all in all they are clean and usually without too long of a line (if any). The lobby is bright and open to the upper levels, which you can get to by the large staircases at either end of the theatre or an elevator. There are bars on each level and usually vendors selling souvenirs as you come into the theatre. That can get backed up at times, but all in all the lobby is big enough to accommodate the large crowds. Parking is a breeze. The DPCA lot that is attached to the complex is the easiest place to park, but it will set you back about $10. To me a small price to pay for the convenience. Plus, it is covered so that is nice on a rainy or snowy night. It is a garage though, so at the end of your night you will have to fight the crowd down the levels to get out. I never find it to takes too long and they often have people directing traffic when you leave to ease any traffic concerns. Overall, the Buell is wonderful venue. I wouldn't hesitate seeing a show there again! read more
