Even though BuenoMalo rolls off the tongue more easily, "Bueno/Mal" would be better (i.e., good/evil as opposed to good/bad). There's nothing Malo about this place, but they're certainly "Mal" (in a good way) about feeding you great food and drink and making you want more. Go early, or else you'll be dining at the bar, even early on weeknights. They have a nice variety of drinks, mostly tequila of course, but at least one specialty drink for other major liquors. I went with their regular margarita, which was equally satisfying. Their hipster beer list is impressive, but I thought their wines by the glass were a bit too expensive. We started with spicy chicken empanadas (4 for $12), which are handmade and served with a sour cream based sauce and a spicy chipotle crema. I recommend putting a little of each on them. And then there's the tacos. These aren't skimpy - they're "You aren't touching your mobile device again until you finish it" sized, decorated with multiple toppings (and really good guacamole), plus your beans and rice. The red beans are also made here, definitely not scooped out of a can and heated, which means all flavor and much less salt. The rice was ok, I didn't come here for the rice. They serve dessert, but we didn't need any because we were full from the apps and dinner. Although small, the patio would definitely be the place to be on nice evenings, especially when they have the fire going nearby in the large pit. Ambiance was decent. It was a little cold in the small alcove we sat in. Cool lighting. Service was ok. The food was ok. Salsa and chips were decent. The menu is limited. Tacos and burritos are the only two options for mains. Other options are appetizers. Way to much guacamole on top of the tacos. Tacos to full to pickup and eat. Very messy. I've eaten at Buenomalo at least once a month and their new additions to the menu are awesome. Croquettes are a must-try! This place is about half a mile from my house & I've been wanting to try it, but it's only open for dinner and my 'intermittent fasting' life means I usually eat before 2pm and they open at 4pm. I'm at weight goal so I decided we should splurge & actually go out to dinner. The food & service were spectacular! We got a tater tots & steak burrito, fried chicken & steak tacos + mexican street corn. They hit it out of the park for freshness and great flavor. The staff was so nice and very attractive and polite too! My only dis is the venue. The location is great in downtown Andover and they've decorated it the best they can but at the end of the day it's an ugly building. My dogs' groomer used to be in this space and it still has that low rent utilitarian vibe. Some may like that so this is probably just me. Also it kinda smelled like bathroom cleaning products (again I didn't ding them cuz I'm over sensitive sometimes). We plan to get takeout from here in the future. Recommend 100% read more

So glad we found this place! It's tucked away behind a Dunk's in a courtyard, and worth the struggle to find it. Started with a guac so smooth/fresh and amazing chips (might be housemade). Margarita and a gin drink with a fun name (something knees?) got the party started. Table of 4 covered the menu: empanadas, fish/steak tacos (with unlimited table of rice/beans, more on that later), cauliflower/steak tacos and blazing shrimp with warm corn salad (which was amazing!). All dishes were raved upon, and all agreed that the other had missed the "best dish". Will be back, but next time I'd skip the unlimited rice/beans (just ok), and order solo tacos with warm corn salad. And ALWAYS the guac--good portion for the money. read more

We ordered all apps when we went to Bueno Malo last weekend. Everything was so fresh and delicious! The tuna was full of flavor. I loved how the mushrooms in the mushroom empanada were from a local farm. Salsas were all outstanding! The service was excellent. We received our drinks very quickly after we sat down. The restaurant was busy, but all food was on time. This is a great place to relax after a busy week. My husband and I will be back real soon. Underwhelmed!! $22 for two tacos with unlimited rice and beans. The rice was dry and tasteless the beans were soupy and tasteless. We were a party of four and they brought one small bowl of each beans and rice. The service was good and the place was cute inside but we won't be going back. This place is fantastic! I love the food here. The service was good. The restaurant has a cozy feel to it. The portions are significant.

First time here and kicking ourselves we hadn't been in before now. Everything was simply perfect. Portions were large, flavors off the charts, best margaritas we have had. Service was truly top notch. Super helpful, informative on dinner options gave great feedback on choices, attentive but not overbearing simply fantastic. If you haven't been that's your fault, plan a night to enjoy this great and local restaurant. A good menu with some unusual items like Brussels sprout tacos and tater tot tacos. Everything I ate was really good. However, my experience, my opinion: the service was great. Attentive and knowledgeable. Sadly, there was no spacing of appetizers and entrees. In a matter of minutes we had a table full of food with nowhere to put it. With drinks still 3/4 the way full people where being asked if they are ready for another... the kicker though about this entire restaurant, $18 burritos and $18 for two tacos. We are talking 6 bite burritos filled with a heaping pile of rice, a few pieces of meat, pico de Gallo, and pinto beans. Their food markup is astronomical and there is no bang for your buck here. The shrimp tacos are so good from here. The cocktail list is short but has so many great drinks, my favorite is I heart LA! Sweet and refreshing with a nice kick! I am not a fan of the steak tacos just because the pieces of steak were too tough and cut too big which made it very difficult to eat. My husband agreed with the steak tacos not being great and on the bland side. My kids love the nachos and it is always such a great atmosphere. The service is always great! read more

Cozy and delish Mexican cafe serves up great food in a kitschy atmosphere. All types of folk were enjoying themselves here, from hipsters to girls' night outers, from families to lone corporate visitors who wanted more than their hotel fare, and to date night. With bar seating as well as pub style seating and a few regular tables, there was accommodation for all styles. This is not a big place amd you may have to wait if you go for a late dinner or drinks. A projection of driving in LA completes the southern California vibe in this dark, chic spot. Outstanding beans, tasty (if a bit dry) rice, and an excellent steak and shrimp quesadilla followed some terrific nachos and tomatilla salsa. The Margarita was small and mostly ice, but points for salting the entire rim. Not a given these days. Bonus floating flora. Super friendly staff all around. BuenoMalo is near the company I work at and the restaurant was featured in our cafeteria for two non-consecutive weeks. The first week BuenoMalo was here, it blew my mind away. I thought everything was on point. From the beans, guac, salsa verde, to the pico de gallo. The meat was moist and tender. I tried all the possible proteins available; beef, chicken, and carnitas. All were well flavored. The entire staff was super nice and upbeat. A Special Shout out to Hannah that served me multiple times throughout the two weeks. Super amazing person. The menu was limited compared to what they have at the restaurant, because the food was prepped and brought over to our company. Even with the transport, it was super delicious. Huge portions for the price. Good quality food and it's fresh. Consider splitting a dish and appetizer with someone else because there is so much food. We love the tots (appetizer) and the surf and turf quesadilla was surprisingly stuffed with a good ratio of steak and shrimp. Even the soft shelled tacos are delicious but bare in mind the additional food of rice and beans that comes with the meal. You can't leave this place hungry. I am a foodie, and I do not have a problem paying higher prices for food, but boy was I blind sided by the prices here. I went on a Tuesday, and I'm thinking, oh it's taco Tuesday, they might have some deal for tacos today. When I arrived I asked the hostess for a table for 2 and her response? "Well all the tables are taken, you can sit at the bar if you want? There is a group of 10 waiting for seats, so I don't know how long the wait will be, sorry." That off the bat felt so, SO weird, it's the hostesses job to KNOW how long the wait us, so for her to not know felt super unorganized. We walked away, but I really was looking forward to tacos and we drove 30 minutes to go, so I went back and told her I wanted to wait and put my name in. She said it would be 35-45 minutes, but my table was ready in 10 minutes. REALLY inconsistent. So we sat down, and hey, the seats were really comfortable. Cant complain there. But the acoustics? Do not even bother trying to have a conversation in that restaurant because you can't even hear your waitress speak, let alone talk to your party. The decor....hipster meets Mexican? Loved and hated it. Emojis on the walls....really? I love the wing drawing at the front, the lights, and the Selena music videos in the background, but the emojis just....just ruined it. When we were handed the menu, I was completely blind sided. Two tacos for $18!?! Sure, it included rice and beans, but holy crap that's no taco Tuesday deal. To be honest, I should have known that this place was overpriced when majority of the patrons were clearly older and dressed like they could afford to buy drinks, apps, food and desert. I was out of my league here. We told our waitress it was our first time and she asked if we wanted chips/salsa. We said yes, looked over the menu, then saw chips and salsa was $5. That seemed very sneaky/sketchy. Don't offer us chips if they aren't free without disclosing. Then when we were ready to order, our waitress told us we could order a mix and match of tacos, but what she didn't tell us was that if you don't order the combo, it doesn't come with its own side of rice and beans. So we paid $18 for 2 tacos with rice and beans, then $9 for 1 taco and $9 for another. RIP. OFF. We also waited awhile for our food, which was understanding as the restaurant was busy, but we constantly ran out of water trying to eat our $5 chips. The only....ONLY saving grace is the food itself. Clearly the chefs are making magic back there, the food is very fresh and the portions are large...but honestly, they pack so much into their tacos, I would feel better if they moved their portions into 3 tacos instead of 2. I wouldn't feel so jaded about the price. I grabbed a steak taco and fish taco. The steak was extremely delicious and tender, and the onions and cheese and home made guac were great add on's. The fish was lighter but still just as delicious with their baja sauce and a squeeze of lime. My bf grabbed the carnitas tacos, also yummy, but not as good as the steak. The problem with the carnitas was that it was 98% meat. It's a lot to swallow without something bright to counteract it. Maybe some greens might help? Dunno. At the end we wanted to get the full Bueno Malo experience and were advised that the churros were to die for. Ok, lets grab em. They were admittedly really yummy, the ice-cream was super fresh and a clean flavor mixed with the cinnamon based churros, but again, their portions are so weird. When you pay $10 for 2 churros...it just feels weird. They were huge, so they can be cut into 6 smaller churros, or even at least 4 medium sized ones...but when there are just 2 it feels so odd. Over all I WANT to come back, but my wallet really, REALLY suffered. $65 for a taco Tuesday just...feels sinful. Their nachos looked HUGE, so I might come back to try, but really, this restaurant is expensive and is a treat-yo-self kind of place. I will say, the food is delicious and feels very fresh and made with a lot of care, however their portions, their prices and a few other things could use adjusting. Yummy, but very overpriced. Weird name ("GoodBad"), delicious food/drinks! Came here with two other friends on a Friday night and found a seat immediately. The restaurant is LOUD, lively, and very divey, with strange figurines everywhere and very dim lighting. Wouldn't recommend for a date night unless your intention is NOT to converse, but definitely a nice spot for a get-together with friends. Ordered a Paloma to drink--tequila, grapefruit soda, lime: all YUM. Not too sweet but super refreshing and delicious! I had the carnitas tacos (2 of them for $18--WOwza: pricey AF!). Down in Texas, you can typically find tacos for $2-3 each, so $9 for one taco is super steep. Let me tell you though---they. were. delish. The pork was flavorful and hot, and they give you a heaping portion. I do wish there was a sauce/salsa on top, but I'm sure you could ask for some. The tacos plate comes with rice and beans, which aren't anything to brag home about, but again.. are large in portions. Wasn't a fan of the chips/3-salsas appetizer, since the bowl of chips they give you looks like it could be a child's bowl. We had to ask for chips three times. For $10, I want a heaping bowl of chips and plentiful salsa flowing everywhere!!! Overall--I would definitely come back if the rest of their menu is as good as the carnitas tacos were. read more

Went here because Casa Blanca was closed. It was around 7:30 pm and their kitchen closes at 8:30 pm so our waitress recommended us to get less food because our meals came with a lot of food. At first I didn't think it was a problem because I wanted to try out different appetizers, but it was understandable that they didn't want to load the kitchen with orders before it closed. It was pact but they did a good job with social distancing and using these big plastic dividers between each table. However it was crowded and loud, it was more of a bar than a restaurant so don't come here for the food. $18 for 2 tacos with a side of rice and beans will fill you up but the tacos were not that good. The tortilla seemed like it was store bought right out of a bag not even heated up but the pork belly was perfect while the pork carnitas was a little dry. Both the tacos were a bit dry to be honest. It was hard to get the waitresss attention and she didn't check up on us often so it was hard to ask for anything. The tacos and burrito came out very late , like 30 minutes after our Mexican corn came. At that point I was stuffed with Mexican corn and ships that I didn't even want the food. The steak classic burrito was also full of rice and beans , barely any meat. It tasted good but the proportions threw me off. No one wants to be full from rice and beans. I just moved here from CA, so I was excited when my friend recommended this place, I was looking forward to some spicy flavors. Sadly, I was disappointed. It's very bland and I'm starting to believe that's how New England wants their Mexican food to be. Unspicy and disingenuous. First of all, I tried the carnitas taco. At least the tortilla was corn, but it wasn't prepped on a hot oiled grill to cook out the raw corn flavor and crisp the tortilla (standard practice). The pork was wet and mushy, crockpot style. No brown edges, definitely not roasted or broiled before serving. I don't recall if they topped it with anything, certainly not cilantro and onion as you'd expect. The side of elote was starchy, frozen corn I am guessing. Nothing was grilled, no char flavor and void of cotija or mayo. The beans are simply 'canned pintos' that are not elevated with any flavors, bland as can be. The Spanish rice is red, but zero flavor as well. Waste of carbs not to have any seasoning. That's all I was willing to try. They suggested I try a fish taco but I prefer to keep my San Diego memories in tack, I doubt they could ace that. If they can't season their food then how could they handle beer batter, shredded cabbage and crema? They also charge for salsa if you request anything spicy, crazy. I am now making my own Mexican food at home, from scratch. read more

Definitely the best Mexican food in the area. We have ordered their takeout multiple times this fall and each time out order has been correct and ready on time.
