My luck with Buffalo is pretty much 50/50, both buying and selling. Selling: Sometimes I make a nice little wad of cash, other times I bring in two bags of seasonally-appropriate clothes and they buy one thing. I had better luck selling things at the Buffalo in Albuquerque, for some reason. Both college locations... maybe I just had better taste in Albuquerque. ;) Buying: There've been a number of times where I've spent over an hour here trying on tons of clothes and -none- of it fits me (at least, not ...decently). Other times, I have a particular thing in mind and find it immediately. For example: "I'd really like a pair of super-worn-in 14-eyelet Doc Marten boots in size 8.5. Oh, look... here they are!" Yeah, some things are overpriced, but it's cheaper than what you'd pay for it originally and the selection is (generally) cleaner and a little more stylish than what you'd get at a thrift store. read more

Clean place, friendly staff and a few nice articles of clothing. Considering that it IS a sort of glorified thrift store, I'm not too surprised that some of B.E.'s clothes are a bit more on the pricey side than your average Good Will or Salvation Army. If you're looking to make money selling your slightly-worn clothing, you're better off just donating them because there's a slim chance that you'll get even a sliver back of how much you originally spent on them. But, if you're a broke college student, like myself, making a last-ditch effort to get a few bucks, wait for the right time of year to try your luck selling the clothes that weren't accepted the first time (Ex: Sweaters for fall, crop-tops and maxi-dresses for summer, etc.). read more

I have let a lot of things go in terms of the many indiscretions this Buffalo Exchange has made over the years. From their arbitrary buying policies to their sub par merchandise at exorbitant prices. Today, however, I cannot ignore their behavior. I came into the store with hopes of exchanging some unused pieces in my wardrobe and get some new clothes. The buyer found some stains on a few clothes that I hadn't noticed, and for that I don't fault her at all. As I was looking through the available merchandise though I found numerous items with stains, tears, and other defects. It's odd that these escaped the scrutiny of the normally eagle eyed buyers. One item in particular, a vintage leather satchel that I had thought perfect for carrying my schoolbooks, had an enormous tear along the side that rendered the bag completely useless. Thinking that the employees would want to know that the almost $40 satchel had such an egregious defect (so that an unwitting customer didn't purchase it) I brought it to a salesperson who was folding clothing and gabbing to her coworkers behind the dressing room desk. She greeted me kindly, but when I brought the satchel to her attention she gave me the most insincere smile I've ever seen, thanked me, and then told her coworker (loud enough to where I could easily hear) to put the bag back on the floor. Later, as I was trying on clothing, I found that a dress I had picked up was badly damaged and was in danger of falling apart. I brought this to the same salesperson's attention and she seemed equally disinterested. It's one thing to go into a used clothing store and expect to find a little wear and tear. It's another thing entirely to knowingly sell completely damaged items and be rude to those who call attention to it. This is not the first time that I have attempted to bring to light obviously damaged goods and had the issue ignored. The people at this Buffalo Exchange (and I would say every other one I've been to, in multiple states) do not care about their customers nor the quality of their merchandise. Save yourself the high price tag and go to Goodwill instead. read more

As a first timer I was nervous to have all my clothes judged; however, all the staff members made me feel welcomed and completely comfortable. Every time I've been to this location the employees are extremely polite and friendly. It made it very easy for me to want to come back. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure your clothes are at least about a month ahead of season. Don't expect to have a ton purchased unless it's exactly what they're looking for. This is my first stop when I need to buy some new jeans or want a cute outfit to go out in... I never know what I'm going to come across on the racks. I always find myself entering the dressing room with more than the allowed amount of items. I'm a bargain hunter and a vintage clothing lover, so naturally, I enjoy shopping at used clothing stores. Buffalo is way better than a thrift store though (for buyers). They only accept items from sellers that are in good condition and in style. That being said, it's not a great place to sell your clothes. I've taken in two trash bags full of nice, gently-worn name-brand clothing only to have a few items taken. The prices vary. Usually, I can find some amazing deals. I got this awesome black military-style vest for $8 the other day that was a super-steal. Other times, I'm like.... "I'm not paying $20 for that used t-shirt." I was also looking for a cute jean vest FOREVER... and finally realized the mannequin in the window was wearing one that was exactly the style I wanted. They took it off her and sold it to me right there for $10. Some of my other favorite finds were a vintage jean jacket for $12, leather mini skirt for $14, skinny black jeans that fit perfect for $15, and wooden lion-shaped earrings for $4. read more

Just left the buffalo exchange in Phoenix and its pretty much the same set up as the original one in Tucson. But if you ask me I like the staff in Tucson a lot better. Bought some nice shirts so I can't complain. But can't beat the original. All in all it's a nice store. Well organized as usual. Awesome thrifting! read more

The times I have actually purchased something at Buffalo are few and far between. It seems like a good idea, but the deals really aren't that good. In the many years I have been visiting the store they have lost their genuine eclectic feel in exchange for faux-hip, overprice goods. A year ago, I may have given this place 4 stars, but it has been a long time since I have walked away feeling like 1) I saved a lot of money and 2) I found great clothing. However, the handful of items I have found over the past couple years are some of my favorite articles of clothing I have ever owned. The good finds are really good, but the good finds are also few and far between. In my opinion, the prices are a little high for a second hand shop. Also, be warned that they are extremely selective on what they buy. I consider myself to be fairly fashionable, but they rarely take my stuff... I just may not be hipster or ironic enough. I have no idea why people are on here complaining about this place. The staff was very helpful and the place was immaculate. I went in here today with a friend with two bags of clothes between the both of us and we left with 25 bucks each! A girl helped my friend and a guy helped me. I will admit I was a bit disappointed they didn't take more but hey, that's their job. They told me they were looking for "more winter/fall things" as to why they only took 3 things of mine. I guess this means I'll be taking all the rest of my clothes back for when they're looking for spring/summer things. As far as the clothes selection which I browsed while I waited, it's pretty diverse. Everything is very neat and organized by size but some of the things there got me wondering "how in the hell did they buy this from someone and not some of my clothes??" But hey to each is own! I will say this; I went here solely to sell my clothes and I was surprised I got what I got for the things they took back. If you need to sell back clothes, go here. I do not recommend trying to "go down the street to Sunset Clothing Exchange" like someone else said and sell back your clothes because they don't take anything! Hope this helped! read more

Whoever says this place buys their stuff is lying, working there, or dresses like the employees I guess: some blend of rocker fairy/steampunk/80's band with a tutu and ruby slippers with holes so you can see their ripped leggings. Classy! Take three bags of stuff there... which when calling ahead and being told to go through and pick the best of the best and donate the rest we did. Originally had 8 large bags. So go through and anything with any stain, seam problem, no high end brand name, we put into bags to donate. So we're left with three bags of Express, Lucky Jeans, Bad Religion, and Perry Ellis or above men's dress clothes. ONE item taken, a dress... the offer? $1.80 So no one wants Lucky Jeans or Express? Not even for $1.80? That one item was also of course worth 200x that (literally) but whatever, we were about to take it to goodwill anyways. So we shop... and there is nothing. Literally, I wish anything of any of the brands we tried to sell was on the racks, but nope. All crappy, ugly, thrift store shoes and ugly as sin shirts/pants. The only thing I can begrudge them is there were long sleeve dress shirts and jeans in our bag at large and it's not the season, but I know people that go there religiously looking for brand name jeans and such, it would be bought in a heartbeat. It is if they are TRYING to lose customers and not make money. 8 years ago I could actually trade stuff in, it was great, and they had a good selection.... I guess if my wife leaves me and I turn into an emo, wanna kill myself, dress as a clash between a rockabilly and a ballerina... I might like the store again. Otherwise it is insulting, and they aren't polite. How can a business seriously not care if they are polite to customers? It's insane. OH and last piece, they still took all of our clothes for donation, I seriously wonder if it will end up on racks. read more

After a recent trip to San Diego, I discovered Buffalo Exchange and instantly fell in love! I'm all about unique and cool steals! So I was even more excited to find out that there was a Buffalo Exchange not too far from me. I got a huge bag of all of my unwanted clothing together and took the HOUR long drive over to buffalo to see if I could store some good store credit! I go in and the place was way bigger than the store in San Diego and super clean. Most of the staff was friendly except for the lady that was looking through my items I was selling. Not one smile the whole time. And she was the slowest person I've ever met. I am a very patient person but when I'm talking slow I'm talking Flash from Zootopia slow. She was rude, unprofessional and simply looked like she didn't want to be there. So I go shop around for a little waiting for her to be done and when I get back she tells me that I get $6 in cash or $10 in store credit.. WHAT? I had a great big bag of cute clothes and a bunch of cute shoes. I'm 95% sure she didn't even go through the whole thing because the bag looks the same as when I gave it to her. So make sure you watch them if you're selling your clothes. I will not be going back and it was a huge waste of time. read more

Be careful of the newer employees. I purchased two items (one normal priced, one on sale) and specifically asked what the return policy was. I was told 5 days, tags on, with receipt. The next day, I go to return item that was on sale and the manager informs me that sale items cannot be returned. I came here to sell some vintage items. I didn't see very many vintage items in the store nor did they buy much from me. However, they have a good selection of clothing. It's not anything you would find at Goodwill or Plato's closet. The clothing is unique and in very good shape. I found myself wanting every piece I picked up. Big and filled with clothing and people. It was very busy on this day but I'm not sure how it is most days for I have only been here once before way back. Every employee I can count asked how we were and if we needed help as they passed by. Some even came over to us. So customer service was pretty good. Buffalo exchange is interesting; it's a better quality thrift store. It's definitely not somewhere where you can do quick clothes shopping or even back to school shopping for your kids. But, if you like being a treasure hunter there are really good finds. There were a few things there that I wanted but they didn't fit which was unfortunate since there were only one. The staff was extremely friendly especially one girl who's name I forgot, she even asked my name which was a really nice personal touch. I am a regular at the Phoenix location, figured it was fair to review this location, although I don't shop here as often. Compared to the other location, this place is HUGE! The style and vibe is definitely different from the Phoenix one. I think overall they price items fair, and have a large selection. From casual to more fancy. The con's here are that parking kind of sucks, and I often am standing in line longer than I would like. Other than that, its worth stopping in, either to trade or just buy. read more

One of the better locations. Usually has the best shoes and bag selection. However, as someone who work in the high-end fashion, couture business I have seen some obvious fake and knock off items. I have brought in some barely worn designer items and they have offered my less than a third of the selling price so I have found other resell retailers who will give me at least half of the original price for couture items. I wish that I could give this location 0 stars. Any time that I have tried shopping here, their clothing items for men have been absolutely lackluster and boring. Their clothing is tacky and trashy. When I tried to sell clothing back to them (all in good condition and name brands) they refused to take any because they only want smalls and mediums in men. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the staff is at this location! It's pretty typical for Buffalo Exchange employees to be a bit rude and have a "can't be bothered" kind of attitude. Not this place! They were friendly, smiley and very helpful. The buyers gave me reasons why they couldn't take my items and really consulted with each other. They told me exactly what they were looking for and why. In the end, I traded in one purse, my first item sold at a Buffalo Exchange ever! The cashier that cashed me out was also very friendly and helpful and had even more advice for me. I will definitely go back to this location to do some shopping in the future. read more

My review is for the awesome service I received! I went in last week with multiple boxes of clothing, just trying to see what I could get for the mix as a favor for a friend. Although I couldn't sell much since the styles weren't quite what they were looking for, the service I received was amazing!! One employee in particular, Keenan, was very helpful. Not only did he help me get my heavy boxes out of my car and into the building, but he patiently looked at each item. He was very upbeat, friendly, and personable! We had a great conversation while he examined the items, and I really appreciate his eye for fashion and how knowledgable he was of current trends. So I went to Buffalo Exchange for the first time last Saturday. I seriously just need to rave about this place just for a sec! First of all all the clothing is GREAT quality for reasonable prices as well. I mostly wanted to write this review to shout out the man, Mitchell, that helped me with the dressing room. His attitude was extremely up beat, sweet and not to mention a tremendous help. When I shop second hand, it's really hard for me to focus with there being SO many options to choose from. I had my sisters birthday party on Sunday, so I had no time to mess around. Mitchell took the time to help me find the PERFECT top, pants, shoes and accessories for the occasion and I couldn't thank him enough! You can tell he's the type of person who really loves their job and Buffalo should watch out because I'm about to hire him as my personal stylist! Overall I love the vibe of this place, it's seriously the hidden gem of tempe. Can't wait to return for all my back to school clothes! read more

I like to shop here. I always end up spending twice as long as I had planned in this store. Too many things to look at and I'm easy distracted. They don't usually buy much of my clothing when I try to sell back. I know they are looking for a specific look, but that's not usually why people sell their clothes- it's to get rid of them. So it would be nice if they had more of an open mind and more of a thrifty mentality. But hey- the reason I go there is for cool items so I can see both sides. I will return. Buffalo Exchange aims to be a cool thrift store with only stuff people would actually want to buy. Although they succeeded, the prices aren't really at all close to thrift store prices. They have some unique things but I wouldn't go in there expecting to get a great deal. If you are feeling thrifty stick to Savers or Goodwill, and treat Buffalo Exchange as a regular shopping experience. read more
