Ever since my girlfriend has gotten into record collecting we have been hitting up pretty much every store we can to check things out. I spent most of my teens and 20's buying records and now that she's into it I've been happy to share this hobby with her and teach her all the things I've learned over the years. Double Nickels Collective is a bit of an unorthodox records stores as it seems to be a collective of a bunch of different people selling records and such but it's all under one roof. This store is broken up into different sections and features everything records and movies to clothes and a couple of pups roaming around. Is this store clean? That debatable. Is the washroom kind of disgusting? Yes, it absolutely is, but this store is packed with all the heavy metal, country, punk, jazz, and rock you might be searching for if you are willing to do some digging. Will I be back to this store in the future? Yes, because stores like this are super fun to look through and you really never know what you will find. Me and my wife accidentally found this museum of greatness. I just got a record player , 30 plus years after I gave away or tossed all my records , complete kiss collection , punk , colored vinyl etcc . As I walk in it's like walking back in time , everyone who was working was like a tour director through time basically . I wanted to start my new record collection by getting what truly was meant to be on vinyl , and this place is the only place because you will never leave , if I ever buy a vinyl record anywhere else , I will personally kick my own Ass . This is pretty much where I do all of my vinyl shopping. Great place with very knowledgeable people working the counter. Also two very cute dogs that like to lounge around and yap at people on occasion. Lots of character. The coolest thing is the store's collection is only half of the store, and then you have the other half with different vendor's using the site to sell their collections. The best service of any record shops in the valley. A nice Corsican boy who works there laid on the ground in front of me while I ate, just in case I needed anything. They always have the best selection of Smurf figurines, Cliff Hanger VHS tapes, and ringside chairs from old professional wrestling matches. On my first visit, I was overwhelmed by the selection (my passions are First Wave/College Radio artists and 60s Jazz). I also bought some nice speakers for a good price as well. This is my favorite shop in Phoenix. It houses Eastside Records and many(10?) other vendors in the same vein as Crossroads in Portland. They've got tons of new/used records, tapes, audio gear, clothing and books. For the most part though, it is a record store with a great selection and good prices. I would say that the majority of the records are used, but they also have good new releases and reissues. The Punk, Jazz and Reggae sections are huge compared with anyone else in town. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and there's always new stuff in the new arrivals bin when I stop by. read more

Over the years I've found some really hard to find records in this place and usually at good prices. The owner and the others working the place are always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I have a circuit of record stores that I go to when I want to expand my collection. My friend told me about this place and now it's part of that circuit. In my mind, there are two ends of the record store spectrum: 1. Clean corporate chains that have a decent selection and a lot of pop culture stuff, and 2. Hardcore, vinyl-centric, unfiltered, independent stores. This place is messy, but it's not remotely bothersome when there's gems everywhere you look. I've scored great deals on classic albums in good condition that would've costed twice the price new or used at other stores. The guy (his name escapes me) who seems to run the place every time I'm there is the exact kinda guy who should run a record store. He knows his shit, but he's not an unapproachable like some with an equal caliber of knowledge. That all being said, I still frequent the other store across the street. It all depends on what in particular I'm after. But overall, if you want a record store that is just that, a store full of records without too much fluff, this is it.
