The Buffalo Sabres advanced to the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals.

The Buffalo Sabres are one of the NHL's older teams, but not among the oldest. The Sabres and Vancouver Canucks joined the league in 1970 as the 13th and 14th teams. Today, the NHL has 32 teams. Since 1970, both the Sabres and Canucks have won their conference three times and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals. However, neither team has won the Cup yet. Where the Sabres differentiate themselves from the Canucks is in all-time points percentage, both in the regular season and postseason. In regular-season points percentage, the Sabres rank in the top half of the league while the Canucks are close to the bottom. The two teams' records are closer in the postseason, but the Sabres have still set themselves apart from their 1970 expansion mate. The Sabres won the Presidents' Trophy for having the best record (most points) during the 2006-07 regular season. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals that year, but lost 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators. The Senators went on to lose to the Anaheim Ducks in the Finals. That was the second straight year the Sabres made it to the Conference Finals. They lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes the year prior (2006). The last decade has been a bad one for the Sabres with zero playoff appearances since 2011. The team is currently trying to break, by far, the longest playoff drought in franchise history. The Sabres of today are a far cry from what was once a perennial playoff team. And not only did the Sabres make the playoffs, they won in the playoffs. The 1999 Stanley Cup Finals is a painful memory for Sabres fans. As I wrote in my review for the Dallas Stars (https://www.yelp.com/biz/dallas-stars-dallas?hrid=vMVpN9vc7fcBN9bAvg3Xnw), Game 6 was a classic. It was a triple-overtime thriller that ended with a controversial Stanley-Cup-winning goal: https://youtu.be/vF_LRVuhNa4. According to the NHL's rules at the time, Brett Hull's goal for the Stars was good even though his skate was in the crease. The controversy led to a rule change the following season.

It's been a while since we went to a Sabres game and we had a great time! Home opener and the team played great even though they lost. The mood is upbeat throughout the game and the between the period entertainment was a lot of fun. Will be back this season, not sure when...food choices have been upgraded and lots of choices. Sitting in the 200s went to the bar for a few drinks as well. Enjoyed it thoroughly! Go Sabres!!!!

    Sabretooth of course!

The Sabres are always a good time out with family and friends! Not a bad seat in the house and so much entertainment! There is nothing better than watching a hockey game live from the stands! Make sure to check out the organist, dj's and of course Sabretooth running around the stadium giving out prizes or banging his drum to the legendary Let's Go Buffalo chant! There is plenty of parking at multiple price levels, my suggestion is always get there early to avoid traffic lines.

Fun times at the rink. Glad I caught a win because with this team who knows. As always, good hockey and a great crowd to back them up.

What they do on Star Wars Night is just magical- there are so many adults that come, dress up, engage with the kids, take pics with them, and of course, create the videos, and perform in the massive on-field light saber fight! Their dedication and time is what makes this event an amazing, must-see each year. Buffalo is truly blessed to have this team- we get to watch pretty good baseball (Ok, this year it was a blowout and we lost!) and more importantly- a family can go to a game, indulge in allll the goodies, and NOT go broke! We always get hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy- you name it. We FEAST! It's once a year, so we go all out- and honestly, we don't break the bank. There is NO professional baseball game you can watch where you can go, get tickets, buy all the food you want, and afford it. But here, we can enjoy everything to the fullest and all for less than probably one ticket to a Blue Jays game =D. Whether you like sports or baseball or not, it's a good time. If you are not a baseball fan, you should go to a game where there is a theme- take your dog to the park, Star Wars, etc. Because even if you don't enjoy the game, you will enjoy the experience and it's a fun way to spend an evening or afternoon. I simply adore going to see the Bisons, and I hope my son continues to love to go, so we can keep this tradition going.

And what do you call it when you get letters from your credit card company or the electric company, based in Buffalo, telling you how much you owe them? A nightmare is what you call it! I've seen the Bills play live in person probably 15 times. A few times on the road, and a whole bunch of times at home. They make an intense amazing noise and are one of the best fan bases of any sport anywhere in the world. I love this team even though they need to remember how to run a team. Hopefully the new owner will figure that out. So far so good. My old review was a bit negative. With the new excellent coach, and the new owners injecting some hope, I am raising my homeawayfromhometown team to a 5. I still like the Chiefs a tiny bit better though... Here's my old review. I have to give the Buffalo Bills a 4/5 just because I would feel guilty if I didn't. However there is far more negative to say than positive. (1) The constant rumours that they are leaving town are hard to take. It hurts to lose 4 Superbowls in a row, but it's worse to constantly think that the team will leave. They should come out and say that as long as we get X support that we need to survive here, then we will not leave. Otherwise it's hard not to be a bit down about them. (2) They are hiring very poor coaches, over and over again. The new one might be different, actually, but previously, some of the worst hires in the NFL. This has always been done to save money. It just makes the team stagnate and costs the team more money in the long run. I mean seriously... Dick Jauron? (3) Not enough is done to pack the stadium. In Buffalo, such a passionate sports town, the stadium should always be packed. There are ways to make sure it is packed. (4) More exciting players should be brought in. I know that costs money, but the team is also making a lot of money and should try and give the fans some excitement in return. The one good thing I can say is, the way the team was run in the early 90s was amazing. To go to 4 Superbowls for such a small provincial town team is incredible. I am still impressed by that, and even though they didn't win anything, they deserve all the credit in the world for that.

Earlier this month, the Buffalo Bills played their final game here, and with that, a chapter on Bills history closed. This stadium wasn't flashy or modern and it really never needed to be. It was cold (very cold), loud, imperfect, and most of all it was full of heart. Just like Buffalo. For decades, The Ralph was home to heartbreak and hope, rebuilding years and breakthrough moments. It's where generations of fans learned what loyalty truly means. Win or lose, Bills Mafia always showed up. In snowstorms, sideways rain, freezing winds, and gray November skies, the stands were full, the energy never wavered, and we were both thankful and proud to be there. Tailgates felt like family reunions. Strangers became friends within minutes. We didn't just watch football here, we felt it. The roar of the crowd, the signs, the chants, and the unwavering BILLief that this could be THEE year are moments stitched into the memories of every Bills fan. So as the Bills move across the street into their new home, I'll always be grateful for The Ralph. The memories will live on long after the final whistle blew. Highmark Stadium may be closing its doors but The Ralph will always be in my mind and in my heart. Thank you for the memories, thank you for the magic. Go Bills!

The defense is porous and weak, and giveaways are constant. The goalie situation is putrid.
