It takes only a few minutes to walk from one end to the other, which is where both restrooms are. As you walk, you'll see a few stores and restaurants like Tim Hortons. You'll also pass vending machines with snacks and even electronics thanks to Best Buy. There's plenty of places to sit and one long table to work from with many outlets. There's free wi-fi throughout the airport.

The St. John's Airport is on the smaller side for a Capital airport and reminded me of Reno or Baton Rouge in terms of size and easy walkability. On the Arrival side, baggage claim (and doing the rental car paperwork while I waited was straightforward and timely. However, the actual walk to the rental car lot was quite a schlep, and it's probably worse in the winter. On the Departure side, Security had the right combination of firm, efficient, and helpful. The latter was key as Gayle inadvertently carried a number of greater than 100 ml lotions and liquids through Security. She was nicely and patiently offered the chance to go back and have them checked, which she did. And Air Canada was nice enough the check that 2nd bag for free. Past Security, there's really only one restaurant/bar (YellowBelly) plus a newsstand, a few local crafts shops, and an interesting vending machine that dispensed frozen local seafood choices. The gates are all in one row, so getting my steps by going up and down worked out well. My most interesting purchase was for an issue of a local magazine called Downhome. Our Air Canada gate turned into a bit of a scrum due to all the people in a relatively small space. And when they offered earlier seating if I checked my carry on bag, I took it. I almost forgot to mention that YYT is well located within St. John's and it's super easy to drive out one day and back in the other. There's also a petrol station at the entrance for filling up your rental car. I hope to experience YYT again, either for another take on Newfoundland or maybe one of the smaller planes that go to Labrador and other points North.

We found the staff here to be friendly, welcoming and very informative. We appreciated some tips regarding being "sreeched in", music stores (Fred's), live music on George Street and other locations, Signal Hill/Cape Spear, Quidi Vidi, Petty Harbour, and even our upcoming trip to the Trinity Peninsula. Our time here was well spent and made our visit here much better focused and informed.

Essential service when traveling in St. John's for a short trip and with a small group. For just…read more$55 (adult) for two days, you get driven from Downtown to all the key tourist destinations like Signal Hill, the Geo Centre, Quidi Vidi, The Rooms, and Cape Spear Lighthouse. You can hop on and hop off at any point. They make a stop at each of these locations each hour until around 3 pm each day (check their schedule on their site or grab a pamphlet at their booth). You'll find their first pickup stop right in front of the Alt Hotel and that's where you can also buy a ticket. We stumbled across them while walking by, initially considering Ubering to our destinations, but after comparing the prices, this seemed worthwhile. For reference, an Uber ride to Cape Spear from Downtown is $40 one way, so it seems like a no-brainer to use this service for a couple or small group, especially if you're not using a rental car. The driver also acts as a tour guide while driving across town, providing a bit of history. Coincidentally, Bobby was our driver both days; each time we hopped on, it was him, and he was friendly and added to the enjoyment of our ride to the destination.

We went to Manuels River as a last-minute activity before boarding a plane back to Toronto. We…read morethought it would help tire the kids out. But as we rushed off to the airport 3 hours later, we were wishing we had more time to spend at this beautiful place, and talking about all the things we'd like to do there the next time we visit. We started our morning with a tour of the truly excellent Interpretation Centre, which is the perfect size to get a great overview without being overwhelmed. The information is presented in a very accessible way, and there are plenty of things to touch and buttons to push to keep children engaged. We were also provided with some additional information by a Manuels River facilitator, Madison, who was very knowledgeable and great with our kids. She also provided us with a map and directions to set us up for our hike. The trails are well marked and well groomed and perfect for families - we even brought our stroller along. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. But the highlight for me was searching for trilobite fossils in the shale beds - and actually finding (a small) one! Very unique experience, and my dinosaur-obsessed kids loved every moment.
