Since I was already going to be under general anesthesia, Dr. Ovchinsky suggested improving the appearance of my nose at the same time, so I agreed to combine both procedures. Unfortunately, the surgery did not accomplish what I was promised. My deviated septum was never properly corrected, my nose is still visibly crooked, and I still cannot breathe normally. The most devastating consequence of this surgery is that I developed Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS), which was later officially diagnosed at Maimonides Medical Center. I was told there that there is unfortunately no cure for this condition. It has permanently changed my quality of life. Everyday things that most people never think about have become difficult. Winter is especially hard. Dry indoor air causes constant discomfort, and breathing cold outdoor air is painful because my nose no longer warms and humidifies the air properly. Instead, it feels like the cold air rushes straight through my nasal passages, almost like a fan blowing inside my nose. During my postoperative visits, I pointed out that my nose was still crooked. Instead of discussing a proper correction, Dr. Ovchinsky suggested injecting filler into my nose and continuing filler treatments over time. That was not why I agreed to have surgery. I chose surgery hoping for a lasting correction, not to depend on temporary cosmetic procedures afterward. What disappointed me even more was what happened later. When I developed serious complications, I contacted Dr. Ovchinsky's office hoping he would evaluate me. I explained everything that had happened. The office manager told me that because they no longer accepted my insurance, I would have to pay $300 just to see Dr. Ovchinsky. After everything I had gone through following his surgery, I expected at least some willingness to evaluate the complications related to his own work. Looking back, this surgery left me with an uncorrected septum, a nose that is still crooked, chronic breathing problems, and Empty Nose Syndrome. I deeply regret trusting Dr. Ovchinsky with my care. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Alexander Ovchinsky.
