Met up for a networking event at Bull Island brewing on Hampton waterfront. Gorgeous view outside, of course it looks like a 100° today. So there is a parking garage that stated hotel parking only but I believe that this was an okay spot to park for Bull Island I actually looked into street parking wouldn't count on that always happening Pepper variety of housemade beers and a bar. I have been in Hampton forever, but never came to this spot. I knew it was back there but i never really thought about them having good food but boy was i wrong. That pizza was amazing! The crust was seasoned well and it was just the right amount of cheesy. The patio view is always nice. The only thing i didn't like, was that you have to order at the bar versus the waitress coming to your table. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, or if they did it that way because they were short staffed. One of the employees did come check on us a couple of times and she was super nice. Amazing view and pizzas too. Our family of 10 descended on BIB for our traditional Easter gathering with our Newport News kin. The beer was (as always) good and the pizzas and appetizers were outstanding. Service was fantastic. Parking in the hotel garage is still free, but now it has to be validated by BIB. The only problem with this visit was that the local bratty kids scooped up all the hidden Easter eggs before we could put down our beer glasses. read more

The boardwalk pizza was the perfect combination of salty, sweet, and a little bit of heat. Not one thing overpowered the other. The crust was light with a slight crispiness to it. My friend got the regular pepperoni pizza and crab cakes and there were no complaints. My crab dip came out a little cold so the cheese topping was a little stiff, but I appreciated that there was crab in every bite. Pita bread instead of chips was a good choice. You order at the bar and seat yourself. They give you a number to put on the table and bring your food out to you. I recommend sitting outside by the water it was shaded and quiet. This is our favorite place in Hampton! The food is always perfect and the beer is great. Very cool setup with lots to do for kids. Also very dog friendly! What sets this place apart is their servers. Every week we come in with our autistic son and they just treat him so well. Even when he's having a rough day and seems awkward, they just smile and take care of him. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Parking garage is free to brewery visitors. We split a flight to taste. We tried the wheat, blonde, pilsner, white ipa and double ipa. We would rate the beer a 3 out of 5. We did eat any food. The waterfront view was nice and the inside atmosphere was relaxing. Food and atmosphere was great! However, I just watched two different bartenders ( not sure if it was Emily, Aryn, or Alex) give a dog a treat and pet them, return to the bar and continue serving drinks without washing their hands. I think this is unsanitary and careless, as I am sensitive to certain dog hair. Even if I weren't, it is just plain gross!!! Probably not returning or recommending this place. Beer, cocktails, food by the water?! Who doesn't want to chill out in a place like that? Bull island has a respectable menus of craft beers and a pleasant selection of cocktails. The food menus is nothing to scream about but it's food, most breweries might have a food truck. I love the open atmosphere and the water views. Honestly this is the picture of a brewery in Hampton Roads you would expect. Service wise on its game, no delay in getting me my beer and food. read more

What a perfect way to spend a Sunday evening! We don't venture to the peninsula often so we had an excuse to check out Bull Island on our way back from a weekend in the mountains. While we initially had trouble figuring out where the brewery actually was, once we saw the sign we looked for side-street parking which was plentiful and free. A short walk and we spotted the entrance and grabbed a table on the dock. It was pretty quiet for a beautiful evening so there were plenty of tables to choose from. My daughter appreciated the rocking chairs. The inside was nearly empty! We placed orders at the bar and watched the boats go by while we waited. Drinks were really good and they have a good variety of options for all tastes. The pizza was absolutely delicious! I always request extra crispy and they nailed it. The only disappointment was the salad, which was sitting in water from being refrigerated. Otherwise, a great time with family and I hope to return! read more

I hosted a surprise party/gathering at Bull Island Brewing for my husband's official ordination at the VA United Methodist Conference. It was attended by family and friends who mostly all drove in from Richmond specifically for this gathering. That can be a bit nerve racking - wanting them to feel like their drive was worthwhile. And it absolutely was! Bull Island Brewing ended up being the perfect spot to gather, enjoy snacks/lunch/drinks and time together. The staff was so incredibly friendly and attentive and the food/drinks were awesome. We visited around 8:15 PM on a Saturday night, and there was plenty of seating. The drinks were good; however, we placed a food order as well. Unbeknownst to the staff member who took our order, the kitchen staff had left for the day (the place closes at 10 PM). After waiting for about 30 minutes, we inquired about how much longer the food would take and found out what happened at that time. We were comped for our drinks, but it was definitely an inconvenience and a big error on their part. We ended up finding another restaurant to get dinner at afterward. I hope the owner of this business will re-examine how it staffs this place. I was shocked by the poor communication, and there really wasn't any excuse given that it was a Saturday night. read more

Great outdoor atmosphere at the marina... Bar staff are very nice, and quick to get your order. I would love to give your stars for a review but I find the food brings the review down. This place coyld ve amazing if it cleaned up the menu and had just a few delicious options. Unfortunately, the food here is just okay. I love this bar for the drinks...and location though. I just wish the menu was...well, mind blowing. Delicious bar food iant hard to make and I truly believe this place coyld easily be a four star dining experience...it just needs a little manager or owner TLC on the quality of food offered. Sat outside for a late dinner after traveling and got great service. Crab cakes were very good. Much of the water view is blocked by a dinner cruise boat but the atmosphere is still nice. Would go again on return trips. Only neg (not the business's fault but good feedback perhaps - due to a public event going on at the hotel next door, the shared parking ramp was packed and had multiple cars driving around with blaring music that you cannot talk over down below...that ramp should go back to a paid ramp except for hotel guests and your diners IMO. We decided to check out this brewery in Hampton and arrived by boat from Norfolk. (Docking fee was $10.) The brewery was pretty packed for the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. Maybe because it was 110 degrees outside and everyone wanted a cold beer INSIDE! Lots of families and well behaved kids. I was so happy to see the kids and families playing board games like scrabble and giant jenga vs running around crazy. Well done! They have a good selection of beer and we decided to do a flight to taste several. We had already had lunch so we didn't eat there but noticed many people were ordering and eating pizza. It looked yummy! They were definitely understaffed. The line to get beer was long. Long enough that we didn't get any other drinks after our flight. I enjoyed the Pineapple Wheat and the Lime Gose. It wasn't too sour which I enjoyed. The right amount of tartness. Biggest complaint was that the beers weren't very cold. Seating options outside looked nice with giant wood tables. It was just too hot on the day we were there. I think it would be really nice to sit outside and enjoy the water view. Next time. It's worth a second giving it a second try. read more

Pretty nice place with tasty beers, a nice outdoor space (with corn-hole), and a gorgeous view of the Hampton River. We were there in the evening, and it was cool and lovely. Tried a few beers. Liked them all. I think there was an oyster something. Tried to get more deals as to what was in it, but either the bar back did not know, or wasn't telling. I probably tried it, but the fact I don't remember it, is all that you need to know. There's also a spot that was in use for a private event. Looked like a nice space. After beers we wandered a bit, and the area is nice for that too. Bottom line: Would have probably gone 3-stars, i.e. A-OK, but location deserves and extra star. read more

If you're all about the beer, head on over to this awesome micro brewery. Located by the marina in Downtown Hampton, on a hot summers day, take your beer and rest up outside on the deck chairs and watch your worries swim out to the bay. Or something like that... I only tried the stout and had a glass of wine on a separate occasion (terrible - but what can you expect from a brewery though, right!?) but the ambience inside is chill until the drinks are flowing, there is often live music, and there's a generous variety of beers to choose from. Prices per glass from $2 / 5 / 7 depending on which beer and size. Love the free pretzels - if they're available, get some!!! Plenty of seating inside, and a few seats outside to enjoy the sunshine and the view. Customer service was great, location is fantastic and easily accessible, with free parking nearby. No complaints from my group of 8 about the beer. A word of warning though - when it's busy, don't just stand anywhere at the bar to order a drink. There's an actual ordering point, and they'll take the order from someone standing there over someone who has been waiting a while at the bar... read more

Super fun brewery with food, which around here is pretty rare unless you are looking for food trucks. But this has constant good beers on tap and their food pairs pretty well. Known for their pizzas which of course goes great with beer :) They continue to come out with more beers are always have a good variety. They also offer wine, ciders, and non-alocholic drinks to appease everyone. Love their new game room and to be honest...you can't beat the view. Right on the river right in downtown Hampton! I came here on my Bachelor Party 2.0 (My dad didn't come to my original bachelor party so he took a few of us out for drinks the following weekend). This was our first stop on our 3 stop tour. We are from Poquoson (Bull Island) so we just had to check it out! We had a great time trying 1 beer each. I wasn't thrilled with my choice, but I can't wait to come back and try a few more! I tried the Waterman's Wheat, which has an ABV of 4.6%. The taste was nothing special. I would give it a 4/10 overall. The ambiance was great! It had outdoor seating directly on the pier overlooking the water, which is where we anchored down for the night. Inside they had bar seating as well as tables. They also had a Ping Pong table, which I was disappointed I didn't get a chance to challenge my brother on (too many people playing). I guess I'll just have to come back to try a new beer and challenge him another time! Looking forward to it. read more

This is a pretty cool brewery!! They have indoor and outdoor seating. You can see where they brew their beer behind the bar. When I visited this location (during Covid) it looks like they have a whole other section that isn't being used. I assume because of some restrictions. One of the highlights from visit was the view of the water from the indoor seating! I wanted to sit outside but all of the tables were taken. The other highlight was the beer. I got a flight of 5 beers that were pretty good. I look forward to trying some of their other selections next time I come. The atmosphere was nice as well, music playing in the background and the room was filled with patrons talking. My only knock was that the kitchen closed a little early. They close at 10pm but I wasn't able to order food at 7pm. But they do have a decent amount of menu items. The food I saw looked yummy so I hope to get some of that next time too. Aight so boom...check it...BIB is cool with me. I always have a good time when I go. The location SEEMS unideal, but it really works for them. I think they MAY have the best beer pound-for-pound in Hampton. They're better than Oozlefinch, which isn't a knock to Oozlefinch because I rock with them too, but it just speaks to BIB's quality. They are far superior to St. George's, but probably on par with the Vanguard. The ONLY THING holding BIB back from being the best brewery in town is that The Vanguard's food menu (and taste) is better than BIB. With that being said, I know not to go to BIB expecting to eat and drink. I'll snack and drink...but I'm not EATING...thus the 4 star rating. I should note that I'm a stout/porter drinker, though I will drink IPAs in the summer (well in VA we have all four season year round so I could drink an IPA in January, because it'll be 80 degrees), and their stouts and IPAs are REALLY good. So, yes I'll be back. I'm truly a fan. read more

This place is dope. I deducted a star because of the parking in a city garage and not a lot adjacent lot but there's only so much one place can provide. They have some amazing flavors that're being turned out here on a regular basis. I would easily recommend them for a brewery tour for any of my besties. If you have a boat, you can moor it up within 5 steps to their full wall of garage doors that open for pretty days, and close tight when it's less than smooth cam. Be safe and don't plan on driving because some of the selections will hit you hard. I'm looking forward to sitting out on their patio during summer evenings with a breeze coming off the water.
