Walking into this shop is like walking through a time portal that takes you back to the nineties. The store is jam-packed with music and movie memorabilia, racks and racks of used and new CD's and DVD's, LP's, cassette tapes, books, collectibles and more. It even has that familiar smell of dust, patchouli and weed. I could have spent an entire day here, flipping through movies and music. Their used items are INCREDIBLY well-priced. I got a used, hardcover book that only released last year for $6, and a used DVD for under $2. I also found some rare music DVD's priced under Amazon. If you're in town, it's definitely worth a stop for the nostalgia factor alone. But I GUARANTEE you will walk out of there with an armload of goodies. read more

They've put this larger space to very good use with an incredible and well-organized selection of many media. EDIT: Bull Moose of Salem is now well stocked with plenty of music, movies, games, and an improved selection of books. This store has hosted several in store appearances with ample room. Newbury Comics picked up their ball across the street and moved away into the Mall at Rockingham Park. Myriad Games also moved away across town. Bull Moose Music moved from its former smaller digs up the road to a much bigger location inside the former Used Book Superstore and next door to Myriad Games. I know one Yelp friend from the Mid Hudson Valley who will be really stoked about those two stores being located in the same strip plaza. It's also interesting that Bull Moose relocated directly across the road from the much smaller Newbury Comics. That is just "wicked bold" which is like the "moose" staring down at the "clown" across the road "Here I am dude!" Anywho, this new Bull Moose store is about three times bigger spacewise than its former cramped location. The store had their grand opening on Saturday with spin the wheel with prize giveaways (including $5-$10 gift cards, free CD, free movie, free video game, free t-shirt, free sleeve item, free book, or free "lucky plastic firefighter hat") and free pizza from Balducci's (same strip plaza) at noon. I spun the wheel and I was given the choice of a free movie (up to $30 value) or free lucky firefighters hat donned by a Bull Moose Dude. I wisely went with the first choice. Like its old location except more spread out inside, the Salem location offers a pretty good selection of new and used music and movies to choose from. The store is still coming together as some of the merchandise is still being moved from its old location to the new store. The music is organized by genre with a mix of new and used CDs, though some blocks of CDs were not on the shelves yet. The DVDs and Blu-Ray movies are separated and organized alphabetically, TV and music titles separate. There is also a good selection of video games and game systems in stock and toys, novelties, snacks, candy, and miscellaneous too. This store now offers a decent selection of books at 35 percent off cover price organized by subject including children's, regional, art, humor, biography, nonfiction and others. I did not see travel books here, though there were some good regional Images of America books here. The prices including the sale prices here are very competitive to other area stores (ie. Newbury Comics, FYE, Best Buy, Target).As a holder of the Bull Moose Music FBC (Freakin' Buyers Card), I earn points with each purchase here and receive the Bull Moose Music weekly emails with their e-sales flyers, new releases, promotions, and events (chainwide). This store stays open late and after midnight on new release dates (typically late Thurs-early Fri). IMO, the new Salem Bull Moose location is an improvement to the old location which was very cramped. The old location hosted Joan Osborne on Record Store Day 2014 which was a lot of fun, but folks were really packed in tight in the front portion of the store and in between the CD shelves. This new location is ideal for acoustic performances and autograph CD signings, similar to a few of its stores in Maine. This store is still a work in progress and offers more parking too. The Bull Moose Superstore in Scarborough, Maine is still my favorite location with a larger selection of new and used books to choose from, which also had some good travel books offered at deep discounts. read more

When I came upon the store by chance in Portsmouth I was overjoyed to find out there's multiple stores with one residing in Salem. Yes folks, record stores still exist! Wonderful staff, always easy to talk to. I do trade ins there often and I always get a good deal in store credit or a bit less in cash. You also get points when you purchase stuff. Get enough points and you can get something half price! Like if you had 40 points, you can get something that's 40 bucks half off! A special thing they do is they allow people to come in past 12 on Monday nights to get new releases, now that's exclusive. They're open every day 9-12 midnight. The store is massive with blu rays, dvds, Music, LP's, video games, books, you name it they got it. All reasonably priced, no taxes help too ;). I always prefer to give them the business over big online shops any day of the week. They also have an online store in case you can't find what you're looking for. Simply sign up for their free card and link your account! Super easy, very friendly customer service on there too. I make the 30 min drive every few weeks and it's worth it. I give this store my highest recommendation. I hope they stick around for awhile. read more

This is essentially Newbury Comics' arch nemesis. But better. I got a $50 gift card the other day. I was able to get 3 books, all hardcover. A mystery keychain, 2 CD Grab bags that come with 15 CDs for 1.97 a bag, and a drink and I STILL had $10 left over. The selection is almost identical to Newbury except they don't have shirts and they have more books. But their prices for everything are so much cheaper. Plus they have a rewards program. They also sell games from old consoles like the N64, incense, guitar strings, and a ton of vinyls. There's something for everyone at this place, and for the price, it is so worth coming here. read more

The new location is cavernous, truly. So much more room to do activities! I love this chain, they're keeping local brick and mortar alive in a big way. The discounted books at the new location are cheap, and fantastic. I hope they keep books around in the future. The location is in a much better place, now. (Right across from Newbury Comics for anyone interested in a "Salem swing") I'm not a big music guy, but their sections are expansive. This is the place I buy all of my Blu-Rays and they have a wonderful selection. Their prices on new releases truly can't be beat. They have a fantastic used selection, but those can be a bit pricey compared to their competitors across the street (although ironically, their prices on new releases over there are astronomical. So, it all comes out in the wash, really). They have a number of dedicated, separate sections, including Criterion, 3D, Animation, Horror, Foreign, etc. But, you can still find some gems by wandering the aisles. Great store. Amazing selection of vinyl and classic video games. Sadly I believe the staff, (a few who are very knowledgeable), took the store COVID occupancy limit thing a little too far by overriding State, Management an CDC recommendations. I was at the Portsmouth store earlier in the day and they were not enforcing occupancy limits. Come on... 20 person limit for a store this size? We had to wait in line over an hour on a very hot day for the opportunity to browse. The line wrapped around the building. So many people ended up leaving and going to Newbury comics at the mall. Can't imagine the business they lost on that Saturday afternoon. In fact an elderly gentleman who was in line was on the verge of passing out and his daughter ended up taking him home. Very sad. Meanwhile the little "Karen" mask police guarding the door had no sympathy for any of the customers. I certainly hope this store re-opens, especially now that the pandemic has finally subsided. I called ahead to make sure they could take a big bin of cd's I wanted to sell and, they said that would be ok but would take a few days to handle. After my 30 minute drive i arrived to the store for them to refuse my bin of cd's which was already confirmed to be accepted over the phone. Little did they know that I am currently two weeks late on rent, have no food in the house, can barely put gas in my tank, and daily I am trying to keep my bank account from overdraft fees. This place has become my new favorite store. I highly prefer it over Newbury Comics or anywhere else. I first went to Bull Moose while on vacation back in January in Portland, Maine and when I found out there was one closer to me in Salem NH (I live in Beverly MA) I became pretty excited. There's just so much stuff to look at I can spend hours here if I had the chance to. My boyfriend and I stop in here every once in a while and I always find something new and something I want to buy. In fact, each time I've been in I've bought something. I usually stick to the used stuff cuz it's cheaper but it's still good quality. Why pay full price when you can buy it used? All I can say is that I love this place and probably always will. I have had no issues and the staff is super friendly and I've always gotten help when I've needed it. read more

I've been a regular at Bull Moose since before they expanded to a nearby larger location and they've only gotten better. Excellent selection of vinyl, CDs, electronics, movies and even books as well. For some reason, everything from video games to records seems to be priced cheaper than anywhere else here, including Amazon - and they have an excellent points system that rewards you for your loyalty with discounts. However, what really makes this place special is the staff - they've placed countless special orders for me, emailed distributors, called other stores and busted out all the stops to order me the obscure stuff I've been torturing them with finding for years now, and they always manage to get it. On Record Store Day their turnout and inventory is always leaps and bounds above their competitors, and they seem to genuinely give a shit about their customers.
