Garnick's is one of the shops you just have to experience if you're new to Lowell or if you've lived in the city for a while and still have not yet been to experience the media kitsch that lives on in this time capsule. Here are several reasons why you might legitimately find yourself at Garnicks: 1. You need an old record player, radio, arcade game, or television fixed. 2. You have a hipster craving for records, VHS, or other outdated media. 3. You want to get the perfect gift for an audiophile but need someone to talk to about their music tastes to determine what they may not have and would like to have. 4. You like to talk about music and want to waste an hour with some older dudes who can chat your ear off better than a radio personality. 5. You want to sell your collection of records, CDs, VHS, or old concert paraphernalia and be done with them. 6. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. If they don't have it in the store, don't be afraid to ask- they have thousands of CDs and Records hidden from plain view. Like the other used record store in town, they do a lot of business on EBay to make up for what they don't do in store. They also buy old media, so bring it here to get it appraised before you put those records and CDs in a yard sale. The place is falling apart and a bit of a mess, but the guys know where everything is and can usually find what you're looking for in less than a minute. If you visit more than once, they'll get to know you, your tastes, and what you're looking for so they can keep it in store for you. Their service sucks for electronics repairs. They have my TV set for 3 months and are still working on it...list of excuses continue... Unprofessional, Arrogant, Unapologetic, Old school ! After 1yr 3 months too, TV is not fixed, they collect TVs and don't fix them. read more

Awful service. Just interested in your money, zero quality control. Make sure to look at what you're buying prior to leaving the store. I've had to return scratched records. A gentlemen came in looking for a Tangerine Dream record. Owner says he might have one in the backroom, but he's not going to look for it unless he's going to buy it. WTF? I don't like being badgered while I shop. CDs are way overpriced. Just a mess of a store. TV parts all over the place, in the way of the records, sometimes you can't get to a rack because of the broken down TVs. Repairing them seems to be a real challenge too. And when you take something to the counter you shouldn't have to wait for the owner to look on Discogs for what others are asking for a record, and then base the price on that. There aren't any deals in that store, Take, take, take. I won't set another foot in that dump. Three brothers that should have retired 50 years ago. Zero musical knowledge amongst the three of them. The owner is the only one that has a clue, the other two just eat. read more

Great collection of LPs, 45s, 12s, CDs, CD Singles, Tapes, Cassingles and other formats. Slightly over-priced. Used to be a large record store but now balances the load by selling electronics. Owner claims to have a million records in the building (upstairs and in the basement)(I haven't seen that to confirm). read more

You cannot find a better shop to purchase vinyl. You have to go to believe the massive collection that is inside. The prices are always low and the staff can be very helpful. If you go enough they get to know you and you experience how the shop is a integral thread in the fabric of Lowell. A must for any vinyl enthusiast. read more

What an amazing and unique place. First, the draw: An enormous (and ever-changing) collection of used records. That was my principal reason for coming in, but I had NO IDEA what I was walking into. The LP selection is phenomenal (45's everywhere, too), covering every conceivable genre and rarity or collectible. Beyond the vinyl, there's a sizable used CD, DVD, VHS, etc. selection as well. And although I wasn't there for this purpose, they also do electronics servicing. Be prepared to navigate through some of the projects in here, as the entrance aisle is lined with pinball machines, jukeboxes and televisions, all of them with varying states-of-repair and vintage. To me, this only added to the immediate charm of the place. What will keep me coming back, though, is this: It's not just a great shopping experience, but a great human experience. Friendliest, most conversational owners I've met in in ages. These guys are quite obviously a family-run business and have been at this spot forever. Yet, even being a first-time customer, all of these gentlemen talked to me like a respected regular. I talked to Bob (Garnick, naturally) at length and the man knows exactly what he has in stock at his store. If he's not sure, there are stacks of yet-to-be-organized records that he's recently acquired and will help you comb through. If you're into talking about stuff in the store, Bob will do that, too. He's helpful and will talk as long as you'd like, but without being overbearing or obtrusive. He's like a gracious host having you in his home. He's also quite obviously in touch with the city of Lowell, having sat in this spot, half a block from downtown, for a number of decades. I can't wait to go back. read more

I am a Brand new customer of this establishment. And let me say that it is very friendly, historical, and filled with all the music I love! They have thousands upon thousands of records! I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes Records! (They also have CDs and Cassets). The owners are the best people. Need a CD or album from years ago, they will find it for you. Want to sell your collection. They will buy it. I bring in an older mentally ill gentleman who loves music. He is odd and can be scary but is always treated with the utmost of respect (somehting that does not happen almost anywhere else where he is stared it, ignored or treated with the utmost of disrespect). He gave them a list of old music that he hoped to own and they found it all and more of similar genre. He loves to just go in and sit with them for hours chatting music. Just wonderful, kind people. Went in yesterday to get a drive belt for my turntable. Where else can you go with nothing but the measured length of the broken one and the model of the turntable, and walk out with the perfect replacement part in less than 5 minutes? I've lived in Lowell almost 60 years and have gone in only a handful of times, but have always been treated like a lifelong friend by these gentlemen, and have always left satisfied. The guy finds my ad and calls me, saying he has hip-hop records I'm looking for, come buy them. I drive over an hour. I get there and he tells me he will only show me the records that he called me about if I buy other records he has. They are not what we discussed over the phone. The whole time I'm in the store he's hovering over me, and making comments like "why don't you buy all of my records and open a record store?". I press him to show me the records that he called me to come buy, and he says that they are in a place that is too hard to reach, so I can't see them. I find one unrelated record to buy, and he takes it over to his computer, and says "this goes for good money on ebay!". I leave. Later that week, I call him back to ask what happened, and he goes off on me about how I wasted his time by shopping at his store, because instead of hovering over me, telling me stories of tenuous interest, he could have been listing records on ebay, and he would have sold me that record I tried to buy for $5, had I not left, but now its on ebay so I have to buy it there. He claims he has the hip-hop records, and starts mentioning desirable titles, but its like he looked up collectible hip-hop records, or someone sent him a wantlist, and he's reading down it. I've never had another experience like that in any other record store. read more
