Great little record shop in Newburyport. I was a little skeptical when I saw that it was such a small space, but they have a fantastic collection here (tapes, records, CDs) and the man working that day was very knowledgeable and interested in helping me find what I was looking for! Popped in here for a quick look around. Like others on here, I have to agree that the guy working had zero personality. I tried to engage him in conversation but he wasn't having it. Not a great number of used LPs, and the prices were a little over the top for the minimal selection. read more

They got a good selection for the size of their store. I'm a Soul and Disco collector and they don't have much of that. It's mainly Rock, Jazz and World. I'm big into hip hop and they did have a copy of my favorite artist MF DOOM's record Mmm Food. But it was priced a little high. Actually, that's one thing I didn't like about this store, everything was priced high. Sure the records were in excellent condition. But something you see everywhere for 5 or 6 bucks had a 20 dollar tag on it. Adversely, I saw a few records that I grabbed that I thought should be priced higher and were on the cheap. read more

Don't let the size of this record store sway you away. I've been going to Dyno Records for many years. I'm fairly local and love the place. It offers classic jazz music all the way to iron maiden. I love these guys! They are very knowledgeable and are willing to look up any random thing you might inquire about! They might be small but they have a fabulous selection - they even carry vinyl and 8-tracks for you crazy old schoolers! (I know, I know! Vinyl is making a comeback. Got it.) Even if you can't stop in, take a stroll past the window just to check out the posters for upcoming shows. Though, I can't guarantee that you would be able to resist going inside... Dyno is an excellent local record store with a HUGE selction of jazz and world music. In recent years they have expanded their used cd's and vinyl considerably and are consistently getting new stuff in. They'll order anything in print and it comes in in a few days. Here, you get a chance to discover new things especially if you have a chat with anyone working there. It's expensive due to the volume and location (downtown Newburyport always comes with a higher pricetag) but worth it to know you're supporting local business. PASS read more

Love going to this place - pretty decent record selection for the size of the store. Prices are comparable to amazon prices for vinyl. The few people we have met behind the checkout counter have always been very nice! They also have a few clearance bins that have $1 albums which is fun to look through :) read more

Have enjoyed this store, off an on, for years. We live 30 m away so maybe once or twice a year. Upon entering the store today, we were the only customers and the owner ignored us. Ok. Fine. But then we approached him and mentioned it was my wife's birthday and we drove here to go specifically to the restaurant next door, but it was closed just today for repairs. We asked for a recommendation and he said, "buy her some music". No "happy birthday" and NO recommendation on a restaurant. Dude, get over yourself and be friendly. My wife was on the phone checking other restaurant reviews and I had this feeling he was pissed and was getting an attitude thinking we were just noting what we would buy online later which was not the case. i love CDs and won't go back here. read more

Great shop. Nice variety of used and new. Also handy that they sell guitar strings. It's not very common to find a record shop that has a good selection of new vinyl AND a good selection of used stuff at a variety of price points. You can easily walk in there and buy some must-have records for ~$20 and then grab a couple of cheap impulse finds as well. Sure better record stores exist, but I can't think of one within an hour or so of Newburyport. Definitely a must-stop if you're in the area and like vinyl. My only real complaint is the goofy tourists who stumble in there. I can see why the owner might have an unfriendly rep. I wouldn't be able to take it. read more

I can't imagine why anyone would rate this place less than 5 stars....well, okay, if you're looking for" yard sale" vinyl, I guess you might want to try somewhere else. Dyno has THE BEST selection of new vinyl on the North Shore. I like Newbury Comics, but Dyno is just better. It seems the owner thinks he works for the division of motor vehicles, such is his lack of commitment to customer service. Seriously, someone needs to let this guy know that he's running a small business and, well, customers deserve respect. LPs very cramped and expensive. The man with the gray hair is not friendly and is snippy. You can do much better elsewhere. When I buy something in a store, I am very polite and not demanding. Love this store. I come in quite often! I absolutely love coming in because you can have really great conversations and learn a ton about music when you talk to the really nice guys and girls that work the front desk here. They have a great selection of music, and the best prices. They also really know how to look after second hand records. Never encountered what the one star review guys are talking about. The best in-stock selection of jazz, blues, and folk I have ever seen! They can order for you anything not in stock in the store; if it's not in print, they'll track down other ways of getting the tunes you are looking for. For true audiophiles, an impressive selection of vinyl to boot. Throw in some eclectic world music and this place is like nothing else around. (Not to mention guitar strings and picks, and a small stock of supplies for the musician) My ONLY store for music shopping. read more
