I don't know what has happened to this store but they apparently have changed their buying policy. I have brought numerous things here over the years. But now that I started a thrifting business I have frequented them more recently to sell DVDs, Games, and Books. Well I just dropped off a case of DVDs and Games and was told to wait 30 minutes to an hour so I did. Half hour later Josh calls me and says they're note interested and bad condition. They were not, even the old PS2 games are in great condition. They then asked where I got them and I explained that I buy from auctions, estates, and more. They then changed their reasoning to "oh well we're tightening up out policies and only accept personal collections and they are not a "dumping ground" for a thrifting business". That blew my mind and made no sense. It honestly could have been personal towards me because on my last visit I brought in a dozen boxes of books Signed books, hard covers, arcs. A great collection that I was only offered $60 for so I kept them. I'm not sure what is going on all I know is the entire interaction seemed masked and rude. I guess if you want to bring stuff to them don't be honest like me and just tell them it's your collection. Shame for waisting my time and shame on how the service was conducted. read more

Great selection of new and used books, movies, and music. Some really solid deals on used items, including TV, seasons, and harder to find books. Several locations around the Portland area and all of them are worth visiting to see if you can find a great deal. The clerks are helpful without being pushy, and are even willing to call around to other stores if something is out of stock. read more

This store is my go-to for movies and music. Even if I can't find what I am looking for, the employees are always nice and friendly. I was in the Scarborough store today and the cashier took the time to check my DVDs to make sure they weren't scratched. Though the Windham store is good, I prefer the Scarborough store as it is bigger. The only issue I have is it is a little confusing to know where the checkout line starts. read more

I am a total bookaholic and this is place helps me get my fill. The new books are very well priced compared to other book stores. So many used books as well that you can score for great prices, or sometimes you can get lucky with the .50 cent bins. On my last stop I was able to get 3 books from the .50 cent bin that were actually on my reading list. The staff is so friendly (I bothered one of the employees 3 times to ask questions and she was super kind!). Overall a wonderful place! read more

I love music. Who doesn't?!?! I hit up the Scarborough location and literally spend an hour going through the vinyl. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and I am racking up rewards points like crazy! They also have pretty decent book, dvd and gaming selection. And if they don't have it, they can find it. I lent out a Brit movie and never saw it again. Bull Moose ordered it and it arrived in a week. And it was only $12.99! SCORE!!! read more

Bull Moose Music Warehouse in Scarborough is still my favorite music store in the State of Maine! I make the trip to this location quite often from Southern NH, even though there are two decent Bull Moose locations in NH (Portsmouth & Salem) much closer to me without the sales tax. This superstore carries a huge selection of used CDs plus new CDs, movies, video games, accessories, and a good book section of used and new books, 35 percent off cover price. Also, they have a good selection of used bargain books, some books are only 50 cents each. The prices here for the used CDs and movies are really good and I can usually spend under $10, sometimes under $5 for each title. Each time I visit this store, I can spend at least a good hour here looking through the massive stock and finding some great deals on used music, movies, and books, some hard to find titles found here. The staff here is friendly and I can usually browse the store in peace. Periodically, an employee would ask me if I need any help finding a particular item. read more

Bull Moose is amazing! I love them. I will always go to Bull Moose before ever ordering something online. This location has evolved over the years to include not only used movies, cds and games but also books. I ALWAYS look for my books here first. There is usually a used copy of anything that you are looking for. It's also great if you have little kids in your life, they have a HUGE amount of used kids books you may not be able to find anywhere else. When I need something new like the new Wonder Woman film or Greatest Showman film Bull Moose celebrates this and usually the staff is as excited as you are to to release the newest film. I have found myself here more than once excited to get something new and finding a few other things I never knew existed at this store. read more

Great staff!! For me this is one of the aspects of Bull Moose that always gets five stars- the people. They select fun laid back staff and they seem to train and motivate them very well. All of them have been approachable when I've needed help finding music and games. They have a great inventory system that helps speed up the help as well. So, speaking of inventory...they always seem to have what I want or at minimum can find and order what I want. They have an amazing selection of new and vintage video games. A great place for a collector to shop. Especially Nintendo brand games. I always look at the novelty items like socks and toy figures. Fun for everyone and all ages. This place is a go to place for Christmas shopping for me. Stocking stuffers include snarky pins, unique gum, and silly key chains. This place was my savior for Black Friday in 2018! Books music and fun Bull Moose Music has been around since 1995 and has about a dozen stores scattered throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Many stores like this seem to be going extinct but Bull Moose seems to be thriving and one of the employees there told be that the company was planning on adding new stores. The reason they are doing so good is simple, it's a fun and very cool place. Lots of new books at great discounts and even some used books that are dirt cheap. We actually stopped in here for some maps but of course they didn't have them because maps have become virtually impossible to find but we did have a great time looking at the huge and varied section of books, DVDs and music they offer. Not just best sellers but all kinds of stuff including a great offering of graphic novels and travel books. They also have video games and some weird and cool toys in various places around the store. The staff here were great, friendly and cool. The young lady actually sounded so disappointed that she couldn't find any of the maps that I wanted and was looked so sincere and sad when she said that it was a national tragedy that real maps are so difficult to find. Perhaps not quite a national tragedy but it is unfortunately that new maps aren't being published anymore. A great store that is difficult not to love. A very cool, totally non pretentious place that offers so many fun things at great prices and genuinely friendly staff. No matter how much technology changes there will always be a place for a store like this. read more

This Bull Moose location rocks!! I have always been a loyal fan of the Brunswick location since the beginning! Although I feel a change in the force at this point in time. For the most part they have everything you need, everything you want, and some! As far as music, movies, video games, and literature goes! If you walk out of here empty handed you have either not looked hard enough or you were never intending to ever part with your money in the first place. The staff is a little quirky, but hey you're at Bull Moose, what do you expect? The staff here is willing to help with any obscure request! In a world that is in love with Amazon (best believe this girl is!), Bull Moose is probably the next best thing...or arguably even better depending on what you are seeking! I have always loved Bull Moose, as they carry a wide selection of cds, movies, games, vinyl, books, etc. However, what sets Bull Moose apart from other similar stores is that they genuinely house a huge selection. If you are looking for something in particular, such as a less-known band, Bull Moose will most likely have it in at least one of their locations. I will say, I have been to a few Bull Moose stores, and this one is my favorite. It's organized, the staff is always SUPER helpful and nice, and it's nice and open. This is the OG Bullmoose and also the biggest location I've been to. Lately I steer directly towards the book section (cookbooks are the best here!), but I frequented the CD and DVD section when I was in college. Bullmoose is open very late so it's a college kids dream store for late night browsing. You can't find a better used selection of media anywhere. Other stores tried the "sell your stuff back for credit" method but Bullmoose has the most reliable program and cheap used inventory to use the credit on. You also get credit for each dollar you spend. Last time I visited I had $8.00 in credit and got my purchase for free unexpectedly! read more

I have never had a good experience at this store. Always a hassle. I'm an adult - not a teenager - and to try and sell old DVDs or CDs is a total production. Plus, I can't give someone else my card to use my credit? Are you kidding?! We are talking about $10 or $15 bucks. Get over yourselves. I was early for my mandatory holiday hair appointment, so I stopped into Bull Moose to find a gift for that stubborn lady in my life (mom). I figured the Moose would have something perfect for my mama's teenybopper-esque Rick Springfield love affair. I found a DVD documentary but was hoping it would be available in blu-ray, so I checked with an employee. She found it, let me know that they don't have the blu-ray in stock but that they could order it (for less than the price on Amazon! Score!). Since the Mill Creek location is much closer to home, I asked if she could have the gift sent there instead of Scarborough, thinking it would just involve changing the address in the system. She actually had to call the Mill Creek store so they could order it, but she did all of this without blinking and with a smile. Absolutely stellar service, love Bull Moose! read more

I've been to this store countless times, and yet I've never reviewed it. No time like the present! I've visited many Bull Moose locations throughout the state and even in NH, and this one is my favorite by far. They always have a very impressive vinyl collection as well...one of my favorite things to do on the weekend is peruse vinyl here, and there is no shortage of that in this location! It is neatly organized, everything is clearly labeled and easy to find, and the staff are not only willing to help but they are SUPER nice and make conversation with you while you're perusing the shelves. I called the other day looking for a certain record after I had seen a band perform in Portland, and the guy on the phone said they didn't have any in this location, but he could get a copy shipped to them from the Waterville location. It arrived 2 days later! No shipping charge or anything! The girl who called to let me know my record had arrived asked me if I had seen the band when they were in town, to which I of course replied "HECK YES I DID!" We proceeded to talk about the band for a few minutes, and after the conversation was over I thought "huh, what a lovely conversation!" And all she intended to do was call to let me know my record had arrived. This is how the employees are in this location. They love their jobs, they're very helpful and friendly, and they are approachable. In addition to the physical space, this is what keeps bringing me back to this location, the customer service is impeccable! read more

I was very excited to read Ian W.'s review about Bull Moose, because I knew I was going to be in Portland just a couple of weeks later. Bull Moose definitely lives up to its rating. One of the people traveling with me called it "The best of Newbury Comics meets Borders." It feels like a giant Newbury Comics with an inventory the size of a Borders. I went in with a shopping list of DVDs, and I was able to find more than have of them in stock at very reasonable prices. The music supply is even more amazing. Add books, even a few games, and you have a place you could very easily spend a few hours finding hidden treasures. read more

I've been three times and every single time I'm in there they always ask me if I'm finding what I'm looking for. A matter of fact, my Husband wanted a book they didn't have and they said they would even order it for him. I'm a huge horror fan and I LOOOOVE coming here they have some great used DVD's for anywhere between $3.00-$6.00. Movies you'll never find anywhere else. When I come up to my Summer place I always make sure I stop in here now. I'm just bummed I never found out about this at the beginning of the Summer!! Five Stars for their Record Store Day in-store guests and promotions! Also, this is a great place to both buy used CDs and sell yours to them. Fair prices are offered. Of course they also have a selection of new vinyl and CDs. Their selection of used/vintage vinyl is abysmal in my opinion, in that the selection is small and they don't carry many if any big classic rock names when I last looked. They have all kinds of toys and nerd chic tchotchkes in which I have no interest, but obviously it's a thing so this may be a big plus for you. Of the five Bull Moose locations I've been to, the Scarborough store is by far my favorite. It has the best selection, parking is easy, the location is convenient (and near a lot of other shopping destinations), and they also have a huge book section. The prices are very reasonable, even on items that are new and in high demand. I've frequently found brand new books, DVDs, and CDs here at prices that are lower than Amazon or any of the national big-box stores. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they have a strict "as-is/no returns" policy on their used vinyl records -- make sure the record isn't covered in deep scratches BEFORE you buy it; I won't make that mistake again!. Aside from that, it's a fantastic store and I recommend it highly if you're looking for music, movies, books or games. read more

I'm rating this on the books part of the store. The only bookstore I go to in Maine. New books are 35% off publishers prices are always a guarantee! A lot cheaper than the other national retailers. Sometimes their pre-owned/used books are even cheaper than Amazon & you don't have to wait for the shipping. I heart paper books bc I can read it on the plane and don't have to "power down" like all the other e-book readers. Flight attendants leave me alone. haha. Another star for their buy-back book program, and their used/pre-owned books are awesome! Very little wear and tear, almost like-new, and the prices are definitely very competitive! Another star for friendly staff! Always very helpful! They even hold books for up to 1 week so you have time to get it at the other store. And who can complain, they have a rewards program! Went in to this location to inquire about a Super Nintendo. They said they had one in Salem. They shipped it to the Portsmouth location, as that one is the closest to me. Was told I would get all power cords and 2 controllers. When I went to pick it up I checked over it real quick. When I got home, I noticed only one controller. I got all power cords. Also state of Super Nintendo was not what I expected. It looked like 2 consoles put together. The bottom half is all a stained brown like color as the top is still white. Reset button does not work, and there is some plastic piece rattling around inside, however the console works so that's something. Just kinda disappointed. Overall just an ok experience. Most likely won't be going back to any location. So the 2 star rating is not based on this location alone but overall experience. read more

I'm torn -- I love the Portland location so much that I was a little skeptical about the Scarborough Warehouse at first. It's certainly not the same atmosphere, not even a little bit. For the past two months I've been here every single two weeks like clockwork. I have ordered I have purchased I have done everything and all of my book purchases go through this company I believe in them I appreciate them and I love everything they do. However, I only give them a four star rating because of one thing and that is the customer service experience is not always consistent. I believe her name was Caitlyn was the initial person to get me to the point where I will no longer take my business anywhere else! She brought my love of reading back to life and gave me a new place to feel comfortable and that is very rare for me at this time in my life. She is the only one though who has given me her name and who I look for every time I enter the store. All in all though I will not shop anywhere else the customer service is above average and absolutely does meet my expectations I wish they would all exceed as Caitlyn does though. I will continue to shop here and continue to order and purchase all my books films and music through them and continue to resell to them as well they give a fair price they're honest and they have great selection. read more
