Turn into their tiny town and you will find the Rusted Nail (a tavern) You will be completely surprised and impressed. I highly recommend this place and this is why: The bar uses some warm lights to create a golden glow among the bottles. Scattered among the bottles are some bobble heads which made me laugh- But the lighting works and creates a good vibe. The inside is done in dark wood and dark paint. Its cozy and classic. The bartender really likes the place (you could just tell and that a GOOD sign) and she was quite helpful with the menu. Their menu is priced reasonable. The food we had was really good. Drinks reasonable. They have live music on the weekends (primarily Sundays) Kareoke on Thursdays They smoke their own meats... thats done on Wednesday so if you are looking for wings come on Wednesday. It kind of seems like when they are gone they are gone until the next Wednesday. Lol. I looked over the menu and saw a unique item: Pickle Bacon Grilled Cheese. Thought. Huh. Weird. Had to order it to make my husband say, "really???" Which he did, btw. Well, OMGosh.... That pickle sandwich completely hit it out of the park and was a home run! I was shocked. Delicious. They season their toast a teeny bit which really added to the sandwich. I would get it again...hand to God. We plan on coming back soon. So if you're on the fence... hop off it and head over! It was good and the staff- fun! @rn_ashley_oh @roaming614

This was our first visit to this place. Since there were a number of couples waiting for the full service side we opted for the former. We ordered and paid at the counter. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with a sweet potato and steamed broccoli while my husband ordered the grilled salmon with sweet potato and opted for a caesar salad in lieu of a second side. The grilled chicken breast was moist and well seasoned but it essentially was naked. It could have used a nice sauce like a bearnaise or some kind of salsa (maybe chutney) to jazz it up. The sweet potato was embarrassingly small. The broccoli was crisp tender but again was bereft of any sauce or just melted butter to make it yummy. My husband's entree was tasty but essentially was pretty bare. His salad was decent though. This restaurant must understand that the eye eats as well as the stomach because when the entrees arrived at our table the plates were rather underwhelming. We also ordered coffees and the gentlemen at the front said he would make a pot of fresh coffee. (He never did). The coffee we were served was old. Apparently, coffee isn't a big draw at this place. The best part was the gluten-free brownie and ice cream at the end. All in all, the place is nice and clean. The food is decent but there is room for improvement. Would we return since we are locals, I don't think so.

    G & R Tavern - Infamous Fried Bologna Sandwich

Home of the Famous Bologna Sandwich…read more That's the bold claim G & R Tavern has been making in Waldo, Ohio for more than 60 years, and judging by the line waiting outside when we arrived shortly after noon, plenty of people believe it. Located in a village of about 300 residents, G & R Tavern has become one of Ohio's most popular destination restaurants. Visitors come from all over the state to try the sandwich that put this small-town tavern on the map. Founded in 1962 by George Yake and Roy Klingel, G & R Tavern has become a true Ohio institution. In 1985, Rick's family purchased the restaurant and has continued the tradition ever since. During our visit, I had the opportunity to speak with Rick and learn that the next generation is already preparing to carry on the family tradition. In a time when many independent restaurants struggle to survive from one generation to the next, that's something worth celebrating. The atmosphere is exactly what longtime fans have come to love. Wood-paneled walls, a bustling dining room, homemade pies in the dessert case, and an old-school charm that feels increasingly rare today. Even the cash-only policy somehow feels right at home here. As for the famous sandwich, it continues to live up to its reputation. This Ohio classic features a thick-cut slice of fried bologna topped with melted American cheese, sweet pickles, and onion on a soft bun. It's simple, flavorful, and easy to understand why people continue making the trip to Waldo year after year. Perhaps the strongest endorsement came from my wife, who ordered the fried bologna sandwich as well. That's not something she would normally choose, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. The fries were hot and crispy and made a great companion to the meal. Some places become popular for a season. Places like G & R Tavern become part of Ohio's history.
