An upscale combination restaurant and inn located smack dab in the center of Kenyon's campus. Classic American fare with sit-down service and cloth napkins. No need for black tie attire, but don't show up in flipflops and crocs, either. Limited indoor seating. Quaint, small rooms with a bed-and-breakfast feel. Not quite modern but not quite dated, either. Very cozy. A nice option to treat the family (or steakhouse-loving grandparents) when they're visiting Gambier! A good (but pricy) place to stay for reunion weekend or graduation, as well. read more

Briefly, Good: The hotel location is excellent as well as being a virtual monopoly. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Bad: After we checked out, I received a call saying that a blanket had gone missing, implying that we had stolen it. I said we did not, but that I would certainly double check once we had unpacked. The next day, I received an email informing me that we had taken the blanket, and that we would be billed. (To be clear: no one in my party took anything from the rooms.) I asked to be put in touch with the manager, but before I had a moment to raise a fuss, I received a kind, thorough and well-written apology email from the head of housekeeping: the missing blanket had been found! I responded, copying the manager, thanking them but expressing annoyance that neither the manager nor the person who had actually accused us had been the one to apologize. The manager did not respond. That failure is the reason I feel petty enough to write this. read more

Started with bread basket and Caesar salad. Bread was excellent. Salad was nothing to write home about. A good Caesar needs that crunchy romaine and it was lacking as was the dressing and parmesan cheese. Had the ribeye steak, Yorkshire pudding and mixed veggies. Steak was overcooked. Yorkshire pudding was "stale" and not hot or sizzling and no gooey batter. Veggies? Were they on my plate? Oh yeah, three small baby carrots. Wife had tomato soup. Said it was very good. Pumpkin ravioli which she said was good but would have been much better if it was served warmer. It was a Thursday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant so maybe the regular chef was out? Returned this year while visiting campus for a swim meet. What a different scenario. The food was OK but the service was terrible. The girl serving our table clearly didn't want to be there and my perception is that she hates her job. Or at least she treated us that way. She actually responded to questions in a condescending manner, rude in fact. We asked for a few extra napkins and she actually threw them down on the table. When one member asked if he could have second beer her response was NO. When he looked stunned at her rude response she followed with, "it is lunch". Yes, it was lunch and if they didn't want to serve it they shouldn't have seated us. I do not recommend and will never return. A short drive provides many opportunities to enjoy good food served by someone who enjoys their job and treats you as a valued guest. read more

What a gem! We stayed one night on the 1st floor this past weekend. Room was very clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and each of the mattresses encased in new and clean covers and plush bedding. We experienced such pleasant service (both with the hotel and the restaurant)! After a long night of traveling from the West Coast, they were so welcoming and accommodating. Mary Ann (at the front desk) and ALL of the servers at the restaurant, had great recommendations and showed sincere kindness and attention to detail. I was very impressed with the quality and flavor combinations of all of the dishes I tried in their dining room. Ambiance was casual but still elegant in every way! read more

I had lunch with my friend on the patio. The view is beautiful and the food was very good. I got their brisket burger and a salad. The burger was really really good. Their salads are always spectacular, probably one of the best in town. They make their own salad dressings and they are delicious. I highly recommend checking them out. read more

We were visiting the Schnormeier Gardens near Gambier in June and stopped at the Kenyon Inn and Restaurant for lunch. Since this was in June, college was already on summer break - consequently the restaurant was not crowded at lunch time. There were four of us traveling together and we all ordered different items off the menu and we were all very pleased with our selections. The service was excellent and the food was extremely good. In my never-ending quest for a great burger, I tried their grilled lamb burger which came with a choice of fries, chips, salad, fruit or cup of soup. Of course, I had the fries - what's a burger without fries.. My better half enjoyed the Reuben with chips. All four of us thought lunch was excellent and would come back again. read more

Lunch or dinner I've never had an inferior meal at the Kenyon Inn. Always a fun place for office lunches or an intimate dinner. The patio is a great place to eat at during the summer months. The Greek lamb burger is a lunch favorite (see photo) although the fries aren't always even, sometimes more done than others. They had a blue cheese, artichoke heart, wanton soup du jour that was phenomenal. Quite a bit pricier for dinner but the atmosphere is worth it. read more

Love going to the Kenyon Inn. Everybody says sweet and nice to you. The ladies in the front and the ladies that are waiting on your gentleman but it's really good service there and they're really super nice and it's worth the food. If there are a bunch of people staying at your hotel for a wedding, and your restaurant is one of the only places in town that's open on a Sunday morning, there's really no excuse for running out of food. And yet that's exactly what happened at the Kenyon Inn last weekend. Fail. Running out of food aside, the hotel was okay -- air conditioner was very loud, floors and walls were very thin, and the TVs were about 10 years old. For $100/night I can overlook things like this, for $200/night I expect more. Sufficient food, for one. read more

An elegant and romantic place to stay. The decor is understated and and the town feels tucked away in Amish country. It's right next to Kenyon College and so the main thing to do when you're there is wander the campus (or go hiking, biking; play golf). It's a lovely campus with a particularly impressive library. Paul Newman is an alum. There's a small shopping area and the deli has good Amish cheese. Lots of trees and shady groves. read more

Visiting Kenyon College? This is the place to stay if you don't want to drive back and forth to Mount Vernon (take it from me: you don't, especially if you rented a cheap but totally crappy Ford Focus). My room (215) overlooked the front of the inn on Wiggin Street, and (windows open) I could hear the bells from the nearby Kenyon Chapel. Lovely. The building is old but modernized, quiet, clean, nice linens, in-room coffee, nice front desk, unobtrusive housekeeping: all thumbs up. I couldn't find an electrical outlet within charger-cable distance of my pillow (if you know what I mean), but having to get up to quiet my phone/alarm clock was not the worst thing in the world. Best of all, staying at the Kenyon Inn gives you privileges at the nearby KAC (Kenyon Athletic Center). Gorgeous facility and an excellent (world-class) pool. Swam there twice and *loved it*! Call or drop by to find out public access hours. The inn is close to the Kokosing Gap trail (a rails-to-trails path)--you can rent a bike at the bookstore across the street or just hoof it. The lush greenery was dazzling to this lady from brown, crackling, twiggy, drought-stricken California! Part of the trail runs by the KAC, and there are some train cars that kids can climb and play on. Really fun for little ones. Make sure and ring the bell! read more

Barc had a cup of excellent bean and ham soup...I thought it was an interesting contrast to his flakey chicken salad croissant. We were both 100% happy with the entire experience. read more

If you are staying at the Kenyon Inn for a night (my case), this is a fine place for dinner. You may need a reservation, it has white tablecloths, but it isn't all that elegant. I ordered the Red & Green Leaf Spinach Salad with added grilled salmon. Ordered my dressing on the side with a side of the daily vegetable (snow peas). I had to send the salad back because it was dressed and the peas came in a pool (literally) of butter. The salmon was prepared well, and the homemade bread (you seem to get a different kind each time they bring out a basket) is delicious. Overall this isn't any place to write home about, but it will do if you need a convenient dinner in the area. read more

We headed to Gambier and the Kenyon Inn for a 2 day getaway with friends. The Inn is situated in the middle of Kenyon's beautiful campus with nearby stores, coffee shop, and a few small restaurants. The staff fell over themselves making us feel welcome and meeting our needs. The Inn has a historic character, with a very cozy feel. Nothing grand here, but the updated rooms are very nice, parking is super convenient and the food/bar accommodates are quaint but met our needs perfectly. These are tough times for such hotels and staffing/supplies are bound to be a challenge. But we had a fantastic dinner on the outside patio - perfect fall evening. You don't have to have a kid attending Kenyon to enjoy this gem in the center of some truly beautiful countryside and 200 yards from the Kokosing Gap Bike Trail. We'll be back again! read more

The wine was impeccable. The pork tenderloin and sweet mashed potatoes with asparagus entree were to die for and the beet salad was truly a hit. This is my second time here and I have to admit that I look forward to our visit at both the Inn and the restaurant. It is truly a treat. The location is on the Kenyon college campus which is really nice when school is not in session. There is a restaurant and a bar at the Inn. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner however you usually have to make reservations. The menu has a lot of creative entrees and the food is pretty good. The rooms are very nice and fully equipped with all expected hotel amenities (iron, blow dryer, and bathroom/shower supplies). read more

Worst night's sleep in a while. When I booked the room, I requested the top floor and was told this would be no problem. Upon arrival I was told no room on top floor was available. Because I had to drive 9 hours the next day I tried to go to sleep at around 10:00. For the next several hours, until well after midnight, I listened to the person in the room above me walk back and forth on the creaky floorboards of this older building. By the time they finally went to sleep I could not because I was too wired and agitated. In the morning I was told my bill would be adjusted. When I returned home from my trip a week later I saw that this had not occurred. I called to inquire and was told the manager would call me back. He or she never did. Very poor customer service. read more

Sat at the bar and have some wine with a friend. Bar area is really small and so is the dining area. Also had the apple radicchio salad which was huge (nearly a meal in itself) and delicious. Loved the dressing as it's apple cider vinegar - yum! Can't comment on their entree food - maybe next time I come in town to visit. read more

The Kenyon Inn is a very nice restaurant in a beautiful setting in the heart of Gambier. I have been here several times and always have a very nice meal. It's good for special occasions or just for a nice night out. The food is good and they try and be creative, but it does not quite reach true foodie standards. That being said, there's always a wide variety of good options to choose from and they also have a nice wine list. A bit pricey for the food quality, however you forgive them for the atmosphere alone. As others have commented, crème brûlée is a great dessert and I also felt their house salad was very unique and refreshing. I also had a lamb shank ragout that was very, very good! I will say, however, their service seems consistently slow - so add lots of time if you are going to an event afterwards!! read more

While visiting Kenyon College for the requisite campus tour etc. We stayed at the Inn and had dinner there. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations. Dinner for two with wine was about $100. Not unreasonable if well executed. However the meal was way overdone, no wait staff came to enquire, the service sporadic and the food mediocre at best. So sad since there seemed to be such potential. The restaurant was not overcrowded, a slow Monday night in July, so it seems there is little excuse for such poor performance. Unfortunately, there is very little competition here. I hope the management takes notice as the tables on each side of us also were unhappy with their experience. read more
