I came to Bumps after running into a couple closed restaurants in the area. Hailey was a great server and was super efficient. I ordered the Dakota Omelette which was absolutely massive and tasted great. I also had a large selection of toppings for my toast which was bathed in butter (in the best way). The setting was fancier than I would expect for a family restaurant but it was nice, not somewhere I would feel uncomfortable in everyday street clothes. read more

There was nothing supet-exciting on the menu, but everything we ordered was tasty and nicely (maybe even overly) sized. Service was very good, and the pies in the display looked really REALLY good. A classic family style restaurant that is a spitting image of Perkins, but with the mom and pop feel. Although they are known for their hot beef commercials, we stopped in for brunch on a Sunday. It turns out we were lucky that we got there when we did because the line was out the door by the time we left. They have solid coffee, which the waitress made sure we didn't run out of. I had the breakfast skillet, which was fantastic. Everyone else in my group liked their food as well, but from the looks of it the omelets might be the way to go here. Just one person in the group ordered an omelet, but it was massive and they definitely did not skimp on the fillings. Paired with hashbrowns and toast, you have a large meal there! None of the other meals are small by any means, but if you're looking for a large way to start the day I would recommend the omelets! We like going to Bumps. Great food for all the age groups. I do favor their Broasted Chicken but it should come out of the broader a bit earlier. I should mention when we're there but I haven't. Its happened the last 3 times I've been there. A bit on the over done side and not like chicken should be. I'll be back! I love this restaurant. When I return I'm ordering chicken as it tastes so good . I'll ask to take it out early. I'm sure there is a standard they follow and I get it. Used to be golden brown and juicy. Came here for a business meeting. My boss ate a large cinnamon roll which by his account was really great. He also ordered a soda. I just had water and so did our meeting guest. The food we saw being brought to the patrons looked and smelled amazing. The restaurant has a nice homey small town feel. The wait staff and manager were also pretty friendly. I heard about Bumps from Glencoe, MN born and raised Matt G. who showed me the episode on the Travel Channel's "Delicious Destinations". My mouth was watering when I watched the preparation of the beef commercial: quintessential Minnesota comfort food with beef, bread, and mashed potatoes all smothered in brown gravy. I had been waiting for months to try this creation. A trip to Glencoe for Matt G.'s family Christmas celebration included a stop at Bump's to get a gift certificate for his grandparents' and I had the chance to try the beef commercial. It was around 1PM on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty full. We were seated promptly and brought drinks. The smell as I walked in reminded me of an IHop all warm, maple syrupy and homey smelling. Bumps' menu is pretty expansive and covers the board of American Food offerings like soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and home cooking. I would have been looking at the menu much longer if I hadn't known what I was going to order before coming in. Along with the beef commercial, we ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with fries. My boyfriend said the wrap was tasty. The fries are coated in seasoned flour before frying, so I avoided those. I just like plain French fries that don't spoil the potato taste. And how was the famous beef commercial? Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe my mom's and my own homemade brown gravy are my acquired taste. I just know that I was not that impressed with the beef commercial. I got the half-order ($7.99), which was a very generous amount. The beef itself was tasty but the gravy, which makes up at least 75% of this meal, was lacking in flavor. I understood by watching the TC episode that there is no true recipe for the gravy, so maybe I just didn't have the best batch. We left with a $21 lunch tab and a $50 gift card. Exactly what I'd expect from a family joint. I ordered wild rice soup as my side, which was decent but not phenomenal. Lots of chicken but not a ton of flavor. The boyfriend got a breakfast skillet, and he seemed to enjoy it. His only issue was the hashbrowns weren't very crispy. Overall a good experience, with a cute, sarcastic older waitress who was hilarious. We'll have too go back to give the commercials a try. read more

The name of this place always made me laugh when someone would suggest a place to eat. There are not a whole lot of places to dine in Glencoe. It reminds me of a cross between a Perkins and Emma Krumbees and a good old fashioned family restaurant located in a smaller town. I've eaten here a number of times and I have to say, the food has always been good. Breakfast all day which is a big plus in my book. A variety of burgers, sandwiches, soups and things my grandma would make like a "Beef Commercial". Atmosphere is warm and the staff is friendly. Visited Bumps for the first time while driving through the area and had high expectations based on the strong reviews. We were NOT disappointed as the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress (Olivia) and the manager (Nick) were very attentive throughout our meal. The soup of the day, Chicken Dumplings, was hot and delicious and a great start to our dinner. We chose the French Dip, Reuben and Chicken Fried Steak for our entrees...yummy! Portions were perfect and we were too full to enjoy the homemade pies before heading out so we took them to go. A great family style restaurant the food here is like your Mom use to make. Home made tater sauce and salad dressings. We stopped on our way through town and had a French dip, bacon cheese burger, shrimp dinner, and country fried steak. Everything was so good the potatoes were from scratch the beef on the French dip was so good and not salty at all. It was 5 o'clock on a Saturday night and the place was packed. They also had a lot of baked goods that looked delicious. I wish we lived closer so we could come back. The waitress was also fantastic and just the right amount of friendly. I had a turkey commercial on Sunday it was not very warm the gravy was kind of Jell-O looking :-( I probably should have said something but I was in a hurry it seemed like they were getting skimpier with their potatoes. I asked for more gravy she said they charge extra the price you charge you think they could have put more gravy on.but I'm kind of glad I did not have more gravy because it was not very warm the turkey was not really hot which brings out the flavor :-( a few weeks ago I was there and it was perfect. I firmly believe that you should be positive in any review you write. I am positive I will never return to Bump's Family Restaurant. From the moment I walked in the door I was made to feel most unwelcome in this establishment. It was like I was a bother to the waitresses and the hostess when I walked in the door. Sorry gals but as a customer I fund your paychecks. If you don't appreciate that then get your butts out of the door because you have and are ruining this restaurant. All of the waitresses spent most of their time behind the counter being catty and gossiping. Recently this restaurant was voted by WCCO TV as having the best Hot Beef Commercial Sandwich so I did order that for lunch. The sandwich was served quickly and was served with mashed potatoes and gravy as expected. I will say the food was pretty good but seemed to have no seasoning at all. It did need salt and pepper otherwise it was pretty flat in taste. For this reason I would disagree with the rating of the "BEST" for this sandwich. While I was eating the sandwich I was given a refill of my beverage and then the check was thrown onto the opposite side of the table by the waitress. It seemed quite obvious to me that she was done at this point. I refused to budge and continued to eat my sandwich. During this process she came back and rudely asked "Is everything alright?" which I took from her attitude to mean "Why have you not left yet?" at this point I was determined to stay and bother the staff until I was good and ready to leave. I guess my stubbornness was accepted by the waitress and she then came back and asked if I wanted another refill. Because it would mean I was staying longer I inquired about dessert. I did order dessert and the waitress took the now invalid check away. The dessert (five layer chocolate cake) was okay but much too cold from refrigeration. I somehow doubt it was made at the restaurant and it was a food service brand delivered to the restaurant. Not a memorable experience. A word of advice to servers: It is very rude to drop off a check at a table unless the customer has finished or they ask for the check. Delivering it early says we are through and I don't want to deal with you any longer. Most customers will accept the hint and not order additional items like dessert or coffee after a meal from this practice. In my opinion it also limits your tips as well. Overall the food was average but the service was terrible. If you don't want to be bothered by customers keep it up and we won't come back and then you can look back and wonder why you are out of a job due to a lack of business. Don't bother going out of your way to visit this restaurant as the staff does not appreciate you being there at all. Also, don't try the wi-fi service, it is weak on signal and won't hold a stable connection. read more
