Bunghole Liquors ("The Bunghole" on the sign) is a small store with a funny name (say it out loud) and a colorful history. According to their website, Bunghole Liquors started life as a funeral home! It became a secret drinking spot during The Prohibition and today it now proudly stands as a cool place to drop by for some interesting spirits! This location is much smaller than you'd think, about the size of a small bedroom---you might also try their Peabody location which looks to be a more average size store. Expect to find all sorts of wine, beer, and other liquors. And, yes, there is a rack of their paraphernalia. Times visited: 1

Bunghole is the bunghole of Salem liquor stores. This is especially true if you're a wine lover. No selection in this 40 sq foot store.

Easily walkable from downtown Salem area, decent prices/selection, and who doesn't snicker at the word "Bunghole" nowadays.

Who doesn't love a liquor store with this name? They also have hilarious t-shirts. If I lived in Salem, I would ABS frequent this place.

I was pleasantly surprised and way overspent my budget Prices are cheaper than Amazon on many things and only SLIGHTLY higher on other items. I could have gotten my mini auto siphon for the same price. Bottle wands are the same price. Bungs are a little over $1 each and airlocks are $1.50, so cheaper than Amazon unless buying in bulk. In fact everything is pretty close to Amazon, and in the case of glassware- cheaper. (and safer.) The 1gal jars I use for kombucha are under $7 each. Making a case $28. I paid $20 on Amazon for 2 booch jars. Glass 1gal carboys are also just under $7. You have to buy a growler cap for them separately. Or just get a universal bung. They have cheesemaking supplies, kombucha and kefir cultures plus all the right parts for getting those things fermenting right. I might've found my new favorite place.

My novice beer making setup kind of died (my fault in storage) so when I feel upon a deal that would give me a little reminder class and a whole new setup I jumped at it. YAY! Still, there's a place by me that blows this place out of the water when it comes to supplies, so, you know, there's that.

Restaurant Week, as per the Salem Chamber of Commerce's website, is summed up as: "Participating restaurants offered special two- and three-course prix-fixe menus, giving locals and visitors alike a chance to explore, support, and celebrate Salem's vibrant dining scene." For $45 I got cheddar jalapeño fritters, a poutine burger (hamburger with fries cheese and gravy on top, kale Caesar salad with freshly grated cheese, and fresh, piping hot apple cider donuts. The burger was hearty, the fritters popped, and the donuts hit the spot but by far the standout was the kale caesar salad with the creamy dressing over crispy and crunchy kale topped with the tangy grated cheese. A Downeast cider washed it all down and was refreshing. I went on a weekday so there were a few people sitting at the bar with me but overall the place wasn't packed. What I really appreciated was the general manager came to talk to me specifically about their Restaurant Week food selection and to get my feedback. She was super friendly and I told her about the kale caesar salad. Parking is on the street and can be hit or miss because The Babe is right on Washington Street where it starts to curve around the corner. It's worth it to keep circling though. The Babe has different events each night of the week, including Jazz Tuesdays and karaoke Fridays. I had a great time at The Babe and I appreciate how much they support the local Salem community. I am looking forward to going back!
