Usually I cut customer service employees plenty of slack. However, this man was especially rude. Scrolling through the reviews it seems there have been numerous issues with this employee treating customers very poorly. We came in to buy a few shirts and he seemed extremely pissed off, like he was having the worst day of his life because we asked to buy 4 shirts ($100). When we first walked in, there were only 2 other people in the store. He went to the back and looked around for 5 minutes and in that time a few customers got in line behind us. He came out 5 minutes later saying he's way too busy to get us our shirts, and told us to leave. It can't be that difficult to pick out 4 shirts--either there's a huge organization problem or just a huge attitude problem on the part of the staff. Don't advertise the shirts all over the storefront if you are too disorganized or annoyed to sell them to people. read more

I don't normally stop in, there is another location down the street from me in Peabody. A neighborhood packie, it has a decent collection of liqour and beer for the neighborhood store. I can't recall if there is wine here lol. Although, you have to appreciate two things. One, it's by Salem Wharf and a must go-to stop on Halloween to mix Jack & Coke for the streets. Came in here with my friend and the owners son was appallingly rude and pretentious . My friend knocked a shirt hanger down trying to see the size and he yelled at her to not touch anything else in the store and while she's at it get her son up off the floor. I told her I wouldn't have spent a penny there and when we asked their return policy on a shirt we just checked out and purchased he said NO RETURNS PERIODT. read more

Bunghole Liquors ("The Bunghole" on the sign) is a small store with a funny name (say it out loud) and a colorful history. According to their website, Bunghole Liquors started life as a funeral home! It became a secret drinking spot during The Prohibition and today it now proudly stands as a cool place to drop by for some interesting spirits! This location is much smaller than you'd think, about the size of a small bedroom---you might also try their Peabody location which looks to be a more average size store. Three cheers for the Bunghole. Growing up, the Bunghole didn't have such legendary status. It was just your basic corner liquor store. I don't remember them selling t-shirts back then... just lots of liquor with a little bit of attitude. A tiny little packie. Just the basics. Not the best prices. Good for the drunk in you that's too lazy or loaded to get in the car and go elsewhere. It was great for those days when I had a fake ID. These days it's a bit of a tourist destination. What isn't in Salem? My Walnut Creek pals said it was the only interesting thing they saw during their day trip. Laurie Cabot? Lame. Witch Museum? Lame. The Willows? Lame. Pickering Wharf? Lame doesn't even come close. Bunghole? Must have been good. They took a photo standing outside. Going to the store was not a let down, it was not some lame stinky kiosk in Pickering Wharf butt, a for real package store. True story, the first time I saw this place, I was in the limo which was taking us from the funeral home to the cemetery to bury my grandmother. A better person would have been too overcome with grief to notice and laugh out loud at this sign. I wasn't that person. Great name. Good in a pinch. But other than that it kinda sucks. It's a tiny store with a very small selection. I mean let's be honest, the only reason this place stays open is because it has prime real estate and the tourists think it's amazing because they have catchy shirts. When I moved to Salem I couldnt believe this was an actual store. And then I found out there are more than one! ha. Love the name. The guys who work here don't know that much about beer. I think this will be the only liquor store I ever review. I loved the name. That's the only reason we bought our booze here. We are locals and are regular patrons of Bunghole. Unfortunately not anymore. We were planning a "Salem Basket" as a gift for friends out of town and went in planning on building the basket with local spirits i.e. Notch, Far from the Tree. We asked if they had the local distillery Deacon Giles and he insisted we were nuts they went out of business 20 years ago. We tried to explain they are one of Salem's most successful new businesses. We were shut down with an argument and ultimately left with no purchases. (Lucky for Cosgrove's down the street). Anyway we will not be back and feel it is really unfortunate a local business is shutting out other local businesses. So be it, but choose your employees better. We are not all tourists who you can berate. read more
