Staff is very friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding! We ordered a variety of sandwiches, I had the Operator, plenty of turkey, arugula, sliced green apples and brie on a cranberry nut toasted bread. Delicious and plenty of it! (yes, I got a box to bring home half for lunch tomorrow). Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches tremendously and the experience was great. This was a great place to go to with my friend for lunch because we each were able to order what we wanted (salad and chicken with sweet potato and broccoli). Then we each sat down and took our time to chat and have lunch. We also met the buyer who is in charge of the buying for some of the cute items they sell. I love Shubies, and have been going for years. When my wife and I go to eat in, I tend to get the same thing (California BLT), which I really like. Well today I chose something completely different: a meatball sub. In my 70+ years, I've had many meatball subs. This was quite probably the best meatball sub I've ever had, a meatball sub for adults. It wasn't drowning in sauce or cheese, but what was there was quality, an easy A++. While we were there, we stocked up on a number of items, all of them quality. With thanks to Carol, George, and Doug (plus their AMAZING staff). I've adored Shubies for the longest time now. My family moved to California a while back, but every time we come home to visit Marblehead, Shubies is on our list of places to visit. Just got the eggplant Parmesan(excellent) with a little sauce on the side for lunch. Heated HALF in the oven and enjoyed at home with sautéed spinach, garlic and mushrooms. Shubie's is a really cool and special place that gives Marblehead a big dose of local business personality. It's part grocer, bakery, wine shop, gift shop, lunch stop and more. It's eclectic and interesting. I don't think it's a spot you can buy all your groceries at due to the emphasis on local and niche products (but any locals are welcome to correct me). That doesn't make it a bad thing, just different! To me this felt like a boutique marketplace to get items to accompany a beautiful party or stunning charcuterie board. I'm still sitting here thinking about the delightful local chocolates, adorable Jellycat London stuffed animals and huge cheese selection. Oh my! Just discovered this place and what a discovery. We were walking around Marblehead for the day and I dropped in for a quick cup of coffee. Well, that changed when I saw the wonderful food behind the counter. They have everything here but let me tell you about the sandwiches. Best meatball sub I have ever had, hands down. Roasted turkey with basil mayo, excellent. Tomato, basil and mutz was perfect. Fresh bread and great non-standard sauces and toppings. Get this, grilled pears and mutz salad...OUTSTANDING!!! Kale and chickpea salad, awesome. So many different and unusual salads and so little space in my tummy. Ah well. After lunch we're getting dinner and desert to go for later. The food here is very mediocre and sits out too long. It's barely seasoned as well. The rest of the store is ok but very expensive for what they carry. I would give this store a absolutely zero. And my reasons are horrible prices and the Son is a complete fool. He walks around the store like he's some hot shot. He's has been cuddled by his mom and dad. I say unless you feel like being degraded by the staff and paying a ridiculous price for average food. This place is PARADISE in a store. Everything and anything delicious and they even cater. Grocery store, gift shop, bakery, food to go you name it. All the pastries looked mouth watering I regret not getting anything sweet but i can assure you i will be making my way back. It's a cool market that we stopped in for lunch. Friendly staff and a nice counter filled with many choices. Not sure if we just ordered wrong but we weren't thrilled with our choices. The lentil soup was so thick that the spoon literally stood straight up in it. Not what I would consider a soup. My sandwich was a club with turkey and cheese so I asked for the bread to be toasted. However, they made it like a panini and there was lettuce inside which became a stringy wilted mess. It wasn't very appealing. If I lived in the area, I would try it again and could certainly shop in the store as there were many interesting buys. It just didn't work for us this time. read more

I had the pleasure of living up in the North Shore area for approximately five years and would not have had as nearly a nice time living up here but for going to Shubie's. I have primarily come in for food whether it be breakfast or lunch, (and it is wonderful - today I had the Ahi Tuna Wrap which is new as of April 2017) but Shubie's also offers a grocery of a variety of different items, and lots of wines and other spirits if that's more your thing. The employees are great too - very nice and helpful and just wonderful. I love this shop. There are lots of gourmet options as well as gifts. They have all of my favorite cheeses including Humboldt fog, Cremont, Lille and Chollerhacker. The guy behind the cheese counter was also super friendly. There are several hot and cold prepared sandwiches and deli items. I got the Farmer's wrap with sweet potato kale, cheese and cranberry which was pretty good and huge (I could only finish half). My husband enjoyed his roast beef and they came with a mini bag of chips. I also love their filled shortbread cookies (with raspberry jam or milk chocolate). The only thing we did not enjoy was the "Wicked Awesome" brand brownie which was not chocolatey tasting at all. read more

I found this place on yelp on my way to see the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey Park. I got a Turkey, bacon, avocado wrap on a gluten free wrap. The sandwich was AMAZING! I also got a side of the shaved brussel sprout salad which was also out of this world. I'm not a regular, but I was passing by on a weekday morning just after 9. Went in, ordered a breakfast sandwich at the deli. Woman wrote the order on a slip, handed me a pager. I am the only customer in the deli area. I occupy myself with my phone, see a few other customers drift in, order, and get their orders while I'm standing with a pager for an egg and cheese. At the 15 minute mark I ask what's going on and 3 staffers look confused. There was sone kind of back and forth between them and the cook. I was out of time though and had to leave. I wish there had been some realization on their part that someone was waiting for an order that was apparently lost. I've eaten here before and it was good, and they sell cool stuff, so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Edit/follow up: since a principal thoughtfully and promptly replied to my experience I am upgrading and revising my review.
