This store has terrible customer relations. The cashiers are rude and abrupt. I was a hiring consultant and taught communications skills in corporate America. These folks need retraining. Yes, it is difficult to get good help, and the general public is a handful to cope with. Neither of those is reason enough to have groups of manager standing around in the back, witnessing unprofessional and rude behavior with little to no direction. The pricing is not competitive enough to put up with the behavior. read more

It's very rare that I write reviews - and when I do they are usually good. On 9/6 I visited the store in which I've always had a good experience over the years. This particular day I asked where gluten free beer is - the male salesperson (management?) brought me to the cooler then began to degrade gluten free beer when I asked which brand was better. He didn't care about the product, comparing them, or the idea of drinking a non-wheat beer...He was genuinely awful. My brief encounter with him left me visibly shaken. I called the store to ask for his name to be able to better write this review - he answered and when I asked - "were you the one who helped me with the gluten free beer" - he said yes - and said his name is Gary. I would like to add that the cashier was wonderful and the store is fabulous - I do hope this man doesn't wait on me again. Ever. read more

Great selection of wines and liquors. Friendly and helpful staff. Competitive prices. Store is well organized and stock is kept pretty current. As of this writing (April '25) there is building remodeling in progress, so parking is limited. Watch out for speeding traffic on Paradise Road. read more

Favorite spot in the area, which happens to be right across the street from my apartment! Great selection, good prices and friendly staff! Besides all the wine, beers and liquors, they have a nice selection of gourmet snacks. I picked up a ghost pepper salsa that was made locally and so good! Special shout out to the nice young lady who always greets me with a smile. I will continue to go out of my way for this business, even though it's right across the street from my house, I pass three or four spots on the way home from work, and always stop here. read more

No staff has any wine knowledge. Staff is constantly blocking the aisles (almost no walking space to begin with) and talking to each other. Worst seltzer inventory in town. Worst part and only reason I chose to give a review is that the manager is beyond rude. All he ever does is sit in the back office and today he decided to be rude to myself and my girlfriend. I Already stopped coming to this store but I figured I would give it another chance, this ended up being a mistake and I will never be back to this store again. read more

I normally have a good experience here, but yesterday, I was inside and was completely disrespected and profiled by the store team and what I suppose was a manager. After I walked up to the counter with 7 bottles of wine, I was asked for my I.D., something that never happens to me. I said, sure, I left it in my car and I'll be right back. At that point the clerk starts yelling about how she NEEDS my i.d. and as I turn to address her and repeat myself, she looks at the only other Black man in the store and says, "ask him for his too!!!!" And then continues by saying, "they must together!!!!" Are you serious??? Blatant racial profiling. When the manager walked over to inquire about what was going on, I briefed him on the encounter at which point he says "I don't see what they did wrong, they're just doing their jobs". I watched four other patrons, some mid-twenties looking walk through seamlessly without being carded. The manager and I got into a somewhat heated exchange and needless to say, I did not return nor will I. I would only recommend Vinnin Square Liquors if you're caucasian or another "majority". read more

Vinnin has a great beer selection, including all your lambics, locals & imports. Need to find that Finnish porter you tried at bukowski? Vinnin's got it. The Scottish heather ale from sunset? Got it. A giant bottle of Duvel? Hell yes. Lots of wine and liquor as well, at prices consistently better than anywhere I've seen in town. Sandwiched between a Whole Foods & a Trader Joe's, with Stop & Shop right across the street, it's the perfect last stop to a grocery run. read more

Staff has some major attitude issues, one more than once occasion when I ask for help I was literally frowned upon. Today I was told that - "I am not your picker" with a high dose of displeasure when I inquired whether otherwise idle looking employee would actually suggest and pick a bottle of chardonnay for me. When asked whether they stock a particular brand of beer a different fellow gave me a strange look and then slowly drifted away. I wonder if that beer brand means something in teenage lingo nowadays. My first Yelp review, so please bare with me... Knowing this, you're now thinking "Oh great, a guy whose going to give 5 stars to everything." So to stave off any such thoughts, here's how I see it. First off, being a long time beer advocate, the selection here is phenomenal. from large format ($7!! Unibroue, Chimay, Duvel, and such) to various craft brews and even a nice selection of cans (Cisco Whale's Tail and the entire Oskar Blues' lineup e.g. Dale's Pale Ale, TenFidy (10.5%), etc. (2 stars) Second, having worked in the hospitality industry for years, I've had my fair share of exposure to wine pricing. That being said, the selection here and the pricing here are hard to beat. (1 star) There are multiple highlights which earns them their 4th star. As a side note, they almost get 1 star alone for having the greatest Bordeaux selection I've seen thus far in Massachusetts: 2000 Chateau Mouton Rothschild $999, which by the way goes for $1000 at a storied Boston restaurant in Downtown Crossing (I'll only tell, if asked). Chateau Cos d'Estournel vertical. 2000 Chateau Nenin (Pomerol). Numerous 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 selections; sadly they're all out of 1982. Rosé Deep selection, including the best price I've seen for for Chateau d'Aqueria $15; a serious rose for the red wine drinker. South America/Australia/Spain Concha Y Toro 04? Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon for less than $50. Mollydooker, including Velvet Glove. And a big Jim Barry Shiraz I've never seen before until today. Great Spanish values, including the cheapest price for Las Rocas Garnacha (they matched BJs), ~$7. California Big California Cabs, from stellar values like 2006 Jordan $39 to verticals of Caymus Special Selection, Joseph Phelps Insignia, Ridge Monte Bello, and even a magnum of Dariush ($150). Also a great selection of Chardonnays, from Peter Michael and Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch to Monte Bello and some notable values on Cakebread and the like. Digression: I WISH they had Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc, if only for the bottle art; although what's inside is absolutely lip-smacking delicious and could very likely lead to the activities depicted on the bottle ;) Italy Values from La Spinetta, Casanova di Neri, and Ornellaia. Strong Barolo selection. Also some suave Italians like Antinori Solaia and the previously mentioned Ornellaia. Sadly, no Tignanello. And here's star #5: They exchanged a 1997 Monte Bello that was corked and well below halfway full with a handshake and a smile. This was even without a glimpse of the receipt. Granted, the first time I went in, I made it a point to introduce myself to one of the staff who assisted me during my first visit several months ago, and it was this man who assisted me tonight. Also, I can't say that I've had trouble with waiting in line and most everyone has been more than helpful when it came to service, especially considering the fact that many of their high-end wines sit securely on the shelves alongside everything else. YAY!!! i love liquor stores that carry more craft beers than shit beers. awesome. this place is huge and filled with ten tons of boozkies and the prices aren't cheap but aren't unreasonable, either. i'd say the prices are average. most of the six packs (bud/miller/etc. not included cause i didn't even look at those) were $8. the wines were averaged price, too. i bought yellowtail chardonnay, mainly for cooking (i made some sick-ass chicken piccata that night. man alive, so good) but i also think it's decent cheap wine and it was $5.49 for 750ml. also purchased was somerville's finest ron roberto superior imported rum, which is light and rare, a handleless handle for $12.99. it's no tropic bay light rum from the new hampshire state liquor stores (like 50 cents for 23987 gallons) but i can get down with mr. roberto (who, by the end of the night, turns me into mr. roboto). i'm so glad i know vinnin square liquors exists!! the dude at the counter was cool, too, and congratulated me on scoring the last paulaner sixer. read more

While looking for a particular scotch, I stopped by Vinnin to see if they had stock and spoke with someone on the sales floor. They didn't, but offered to special order it. I declined, but a week later they had a few bottles of it in - which pleased me as a customer - so I bought a bottle. Overall, the staff is friendly, selection is good, and prices competitive. I would rank this as my favorite liquor store in the greater Boston area, with Total Wine & More (Danvers) as second. read more

I love this store! My cousin recommended it to me while driving by it quoting "the prices in there are not to be believed" What I didn't expect was the incredible selection. They have tons of stuff! I'm a very picky drinker, I know what I like and what I like is usually hard to find. They had it all, and oh yeah... the prices were not to be believed. But here's the one thing that really put them over the top for me: Having recently moved from New York, my favorite wine is Bully Hill "table wine". Which comes in a 1.5 liter bottle for around $12. (I know it's cheap... but it tastes like grapejuice and I love it!) Massachusetts will not allow wine to be shipped to your house, so I can't order from the Vineyard. I called the Bully Hill distributor and they told me to have my local liquor store order it from them for me, and yes they would ship individual bottles. Well that's a lot easier said than done. I went to several liquor stores in Salem and Danvers and NO ONE WOULD ORDER WINE FOR ME! But Vinnin Liquors did. Because they rock. And thats why they got 5 stars. read more

Dear Vinnin Square Liquors, I LOVE YOU. Best beer selection I have ever seen(so far). Its like an adult Toys R Us for me. Maybe thats a problem? I dont care either way. Vinnin Liquors not only has a great selection of well crafted hard to find beers, but they can also special order a beer, that for some crazy reason they don't have, if needed. I like going to this package store. While it's not a behemoth in square footage size, there's a decent selection and the prices seem reasonable for wine and hard liquor - I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I can't compare their beer prices with another store's. Some of the hard liquors are in their office and have to be asked for. I got a scotch today - when I asked a fellow about it, he was very quick in getting it to me. Note that if you're in a wheelchair, some of the wine aisles are thinner than others. There is a Whole Foods market next door that always looks packed with cars, but there is always parking by the liquor store end of the parking lot. read more

By far the best liquor store around. Pretty good selection of French wines. I wish they would expand their champagne selection, as well as maybe start a monthly wine subscription. High prices, rude staff. I'm from this area and have stopped by here over the years simply because of the convenient location. Lately, I've been wanting to take the drive to Loring Liquors or even Kappy's in Peabody. Thing is, the checkout staff at Vinnin doesn't say "Thank you"; the shelf clerks seem surly - example a couple weeks ago I was in the cooler and asked a worker if they had Bud Light 24 packs? He grunted, said "There's 36 packs right there" pointed at the ground, and then left the cooler. It wasn't even the product what I asked about, and I didn't want a 36 pack. Then yesterday there's this long haired guy working checkout like huffing and puffing, and kind of flinging himself on the counter - I guess he was tired? Not very welcoming behavior though. And of course, no Thank You from him when I left. This is pretty typical of what I have been seeing there lately. This, combined with the higher prices for basic items (like bud light, coors light), makes me want to just take the drive to a different store. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed my beloved Vinnin Liquors. Only a mile from my childhood home, Vinnin Liquors is a staple in every grocery run for families in a five mile radius. The selection is vast. I am deliberately vague there, because whatever your tipple, they have it in a dizzying array of choices. *And,* all those choices are cheaper than anywhere else. Not just the watery beers and grape juice wines, but the good stuff, too. The stuff it's difficult to find elsewhere and when you do, usually comes with a high price tag. When I go to Vinnin Liquors I can actually afford Wild Horse or Cakebread Cellars, as opposed to the places near me that charge a high premium for these quality wines. If for some reason you are ever on the North Shore, it's well worth a stop in here to stock up on your favorites. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. It gets slammed on the weekends, so if you come then be prepared for a parking melee. read more

I've lived here about a year now, and have tried this location for my booze shopping a handful of times. I like it because its right next to Whole Foods and I can wrap up my needs in one parking lot. However, after my last experience I won't be going back. As noted below - the staff really can't be bothered to do ANYTHING for you. The store is dirty and arranged badly - there are people shuffling around restocking - the last time I was there a man stood hitting two large wine bottles together for kicks, while another stood wide eyed saying OH NO. The lines are long when you get to the registers, and when you finally do get there - god help you if you have a QUESTION about anything. I've had the same experience three different times. Basically you have a question about anything - you ask, and you get a stupified face, a shrug and a "ask him" and a point. When you are in line and paying do you really want to collect everything back up again and go "ask him"? I doubt it. I never get my questions answered either - I just go elsewhere. And they are definitely not the cheapest. GO to Market Wine and Spirits in Salem. It's a mile away, clean, well organized, stocked, and managed by adults. read more

I am addicted to Trappist ales. Anyone who really knwos trappist ales knows that chimay is easy to find, but beyond that, the rest can be pretty hard to find... especially at a good price. A good bottle of westmalle only set us behind about 6 bucks. If i can even find it elsewhere it sets me back closer to ten. Not only do they have awesome selection and prices, but if you are looking to try something new, ask the dude who works there with the giant gauges in his ears!!! Every beer he has recommended to my boyfriend and i has been a total hit... he even suggested a beer to my boyfriend for me to try that was a long forgotten favorite since it is too hard to find. forget martys, forget kappys... dont even goto the place on the corner... April 4 2013: My cousin and I visited to buy a limited release, one per customer beer. My cousin got there after me and when he tried to purchase his beer, they refused to sell him one because they thought he was buying it for me. After a few words, the manager Neil said "Thanks for your $6.19, see ya next year" as if to suggest I was a second class customer since I didn't go there often. On my way out I told the other manager he had lost two customers. He followed me outside, told me off, and wouldn't let me get a word in. He pointed his finger in my face and said "You're a pig". I went back the next day to speak to the owner Angela. Aside from her suggesting I shouldn't have been in the store the same time as my cousin she was a peach. She offered me some free craft beer. I declined and told her I didn't come for free stuff, but I would like an apology. So the manager that had called me a pig came over and said sorry while at the same time defending his actions. When I began to speak to explain my side of the "miscommunication" of the day prior he gave me a pat on the shoulder and walked away while I was mid-sentence. The owner again offered me free beer. I declined again and thanked her for her time. She said I was a gentleman and I went on my way. If her employees reflected her sense of customer appreciation I would be a regular customer, but they don't, so I wont. The only reason I am giving two stars is because they do have a good beer selection and the owner is a true professional. But I will never go back there again. read more

Best all around place to go for alcohol and the associated supplies and dry goods type snacks in Salem Swampscott Marblehead Lynn Area. Excellent choice in beers, wines, cider, champagnes and liquors and helpful employees there with expertise and recommendations. Often there are tastings for their food or booze especially on a Saturday. Excellent choice, case prices, lots of Sundries you might need for a party or a quick romantic picnic like the plastic glasses of all types, mixers, ice, or higher end snacks like lots of Stonewall Kitchen items and pre-made gift baskets for parties or Hostess gifts. Good fair prices and many people ready to help or will refer you to someone else if they don't have the expertise. Employees are always Pleasant and helpful.
