I usually have a good experience here, unfortunately the latest time was pretty bad. I clearly asked my barber not to cut the hair on the back of my head (as I am - or was - trying to grow it out), only trim the top and sides. He acknowledged that but proceeded to lop off the hair on the back of my head. I was stunned to the point where I didn't say much as I'm not confrontational but asked him to stop cutting it back there. Then, he barely cut any of the hair that I asked him to on the top. I basically got the opposite of what I asked but was out $50 and walked out worse off than when I came in. Visiting a barbershop shouldn't be a gamble. Go somewhere where they listen. read more

Bunker Hill Barber Shop in Charlestown is the Winner for me. Called them up and they told me to come on in. Just moved here from Miami. I was greeted inside the shop by Big smiles, clean very comfortable uph chairs used for waiting customers. The shop was spotless clean, and all barbers had clean uniforms. Asked for a simple men's trim, individual did fine but over cut around ears, left patches of uncut hair and did no better than what I would expect from $10 Supercuts. Nice people but lacked confidence and skill, other barber seemed very unsure herself which leads me to believe this isn't just one staff member. For $38 there are FAR better places in the surrounding area. Used to go to Razors up until recently when I moved but I will be going back from now on. Difference in quality for the same price is huge - not to bash this place but would recommend looking elsewhere, especially if you appreciate what would be considered standard for a $40 men's cut. read more

Recently moved to the Cambridge area, and was looking for a barber nearby (after several other chain stores didn't meet expectations). I came across Bunker Hill Barbershop, located in the heart of Bunker Hill, and a stone's throw away from the Bunker Hill mall. I made an appointment online ahead of time, where not only can you pick the time, but you are able to pick the staff that you would like. When I arrived, I was greeted by Pat (the founder and owner) who quickly sat me down and got started. He was extremely efficient, friendly, and down to earth. He cut my hair and trimmed by beard in around 20 minutes or less --- and it was nothing short of perfect. I don't think I've ever had this good of a haircut, especially not the first time. It was well worth the price too. Bunker Hill Barbershop is the only place I am going to for haircuts. Highly, highly recommend. 5 stars just isn't enough! read more

I love this place. Best place to get your haircut in Charlestown. Not only is the staff friendly, colorful and experienced. They do great work and prices are only slightly higher than average but well worth it the price in my opinion. Always crowded so plan for some Wait time but there is plenty of seating and the chairs are comfortable and there is always a sports game on. I would recommend! read more

Honestly, I'm not sure why this place is so highly reviewed. I got my hair cut with two of the barbers there, neither of whom seem capable of doing anything but a military-style cut. If your idea of getting a hair cut is getting all of it removed, this is your place. Otherwise, keep looking. I won't be coming back. read more

Very friendly guys working here. I strolled in on my way through town and one of the barbers was free but was on his phone. As soon as I walked in he told whoever it was on the other end that he'd call them back. Quite kind to make me not have to wait, especially since I was just a lowly walk-in. I'm a pretty simple style guy. I said fade, he said why not. We discussed the Olympics and what kind of people would want to learn and perfect the art of jumping 100 yards on skis. It was a quick experience but he was a gentleman and I was on my way again in 13 minutes. The price was $20 for the fade but you can't really expect a place to stay in business on Main St Charlestown without some inflation. A good time with a good trim, I'll be back. read more

After moving from the South Shore, I needed to find a place that gave a hair cut other than a "boys regular". The guys here always remember you and remember what you like and don't like when it comes to your hair cut. They are friendly and the line moves quick. I've been coming to Bunker Hill Barber Shop for a little over a year since moving to Everett. Finding a barber you can trust is a huge part of moving to a new place (along with finding a dry cleaner, take out places, etc) but I can safely say I made the right choice with Pat and the rest of the guys. I usually get my hair cut with Pat, and he always remembers how I like it. Even when not with Pat, I've never walked out with anything less than a great cut. Everyone takes their time to make sure they get it just right, which is amazing considering it's only 22 bucks for a cut and straight razor neck shave. Only thing to note is that the wait can be an hour or more on weeknights after work, so recommend trying to beat the crowds. If you can't, grab a chair and watch sportscenter, listen to the conversation, or catch up on some work emails. Trust me, it's worth your time. read more

I have been all over Boston looking for good barber shops, and this place is far and away the best. Its an old-school place with great people working there. Comfy leather chairs to wait, and usually ESPN on the TV. The guys that work there really take their time, and make sure you are happy with the cut. Plus they are cool guys to talk to, but dont feel the need to make forced, awkward small-talk. It is very clear that they know what they are doing, and take pride in their work. Sometimes they will cut your hair for the better part of a half hour, until it is just right. Considering that it is only about $4 more than what you would pay at Supercuts, it will be the best $4 you have ever spent. read more

Just tried Bunker Hill barbershop tonight. I walked in at around 6:00 and only had to wait for a minute or two. My barber (pretty sure his name is Steve) listened to what I was looking for, and got right to work. He was totally friendly and about 20 minutes later I was looking neat, clean and professional. The one-star rating is GENEROUS. Just went there for the 3rd, and God willing, LAST TIME. Their posted hours vary by day. Friday's it's 12pm-9pm. Walked over in the heat and humidity just before noon. There's a hand-written sign in the window: Open today at 1:00pm. I walked back over to the Navy Yard, got an iced coffee at Store 24 (WONDERFUL place by the way), strolled around in the heat and walked back shortly before 1:00pm. There are already 5 people waiting, and the store is still closed. ONE barber finally shows up at 1:05pm and spends the next umpteen minutes getting himself organized.. I didn't want to spend the afternnon waiting so I walked out. Wouldn't be SO BAD if they gave a great cut. The cut they give would be a reasonable value at about $9.00. At the $15.00 they charge, the ONLY reason I've gone back is I can walk there in 10 minutes and avoid looking for a parking space. To have to wait 2 hours, and pay $15.00 for a so-so cut......LOSER!! read more

Amazing gesture. I went in for a cut today since I lost a patch of hair on the back of my head from cancer treatments that I just finished. The guys there made me feel very comfortable as they talked to me about my options of attempting to blend or shaving completely. I wanted to blend it so I don't look like a patient. After he finished and I went to pay, he told me don't worry about it, he couldn't let me pay to fix my hair from cancer treatments. What a kind gesture and a beautiful glimpse into humanity. I'm from out of town, and found this place by chance on my way to Bunker Hill. I wish I could find something similar in Chicago. They did a fantastic job, and the haircut was just $20 despite including a straight razor shave on the back of the neck. I'm sometimes a bit apprehensive about straight razors, but the store was exceptionally clean and the blade was disinfected right in front of me. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great haircut in a barber shop with a classic feel. read more

I moved to Charlestown in 1998 and the second day I was here, I needed a haircut and saw that there was a shop and the end of my street (Green and Bunker Hill) so I decided to check it out. Walked in and met Pat and Ive been a customer ever since. We started talking and told him I had just moved into the area, he couldn't have been nicer and told me about the history of Charlestown and where to go/drink/eat etc...I moved to another area of the city in 2001 but every time i need a cut I always head back to Charlestown. Both of my sons first cuts were there as well. Pat is a credit to the neighborhood and shows everyday how a first class business should be run. I am a lifelong/loyal customer. read more
