I take no pleasure in dunking on local businesses but this is a pretty mediocre haircut place. I called ahead for a 5pm and had to wait ~15 mins as a walk in who came in the same time as me was prioritized. My stylist did not seem confident cutting my hair and did a terrible job. I provided some feedback and he barely did anything to fix it. I was worried that if I gave more feedback my hair would become a lost cause. I'm gonna have to go somewhere else to salvage this. Then during our conversation, he told me he doesn't know how to cut Black people's hair, so he will try to weed out people he thinks might be Black... super awkward. If you have straight/wavy hair, you could get away with a mediocre (at best) haircut. But if you have curly/Afro-textured hair, STAY AWAY. read more

The person cutting my hair didn't speak English so there was trouble understanding what kind of style was requested. Hair cutter didn't seem to clean any of the cutting products either after the person before me left. Most places will offer styling product so you can leave with hair looking good, but this place did not offer product and my hair was not styled when I left after the cut. read more

Kevin (the owner) has been noticeably treating Asian and White customers differently. Being Asian myself, my haircut there got constantly interrupted by Kevin's phone calls and he had no problem picking them up and spending 5mins on the phone when I sit there and wait. No apologies or "excuse me". Impatient and rude in general like other customers mentioned. Kevin puts on a friendly face for his white customers. I noticed a couple of times that he is so much more smiley and apologized profusely if he had to take a call. Very disappointing racism towards his own race. read more

Only speaking for beard services. They are not familiar or comfortable with beard trimming. I like places that know what I need, but here I had to direct them each step. Ultimately ended up okay, but didn't feel great about the service and they didn't shave my neck or beard line to finish it off. Have never experienced that before. Great spot! Clean and professional. I went to K-oop with the hopes of donating my hair to Locks of Love since I had been growing my hair throughout the Covid pandemic without getting a hair cut. The staff was very professional and helped me with my unique request of packaging my ponytail into a denotable bunch. They then did a great job styling my remaining hair to my exact request. I was nervous for sure going into this since my hair had not been cut in so long and I did not want regrets, but my worries were unnecessary as they did a great cut and my hair looks great! No regrets! Plus, I got to donate my hair to Locks of Love which was my main goal for this project. Would definitely recommend K-oop Hair Styling to anyone in the Kendall/Cambridge/Boston area. I just stopped into COOP Hair Styling on an impulse today, and boy am I glad I did. Kevin (the manager) gave me a fantastic cut, and it beat the pants off the cuts I usually get over at La Flamme in Harvard Square. Sure, the COOP Hair Styling Salon is much smaller, but you the service was more personal, and Kevin paid incredible intention to my general instructions. The location is also super convenient. Right next to the Kendall T stop and located next to the MIT COOP, inside the same building as the much-loved food court.... very close to Kendall office buildings. This is going to be my new go-to place when I need a quick cut. Thumbs up. read more

Sigh... don't see Ronnie if you're a man who wants something other than a "short" haircut. I came in with long hair, maybe 4 inches long. I told Ronnie that I'd like my hair to look like a photo of me that I showed him, still a longer style but more "professional." I asked for it to be a bit longer than the photo I showed him, and he repeated that request back to me. I came in wearing glasses so I wasn't able to see exactly how things were going, but I began to feel that I was loosing hair much faster than I should be. I interrupted the hair cut 3 times to make friendly remarks, reminding him about my request and asking about the length. When I was finished, the other hairdresser in the room conceded when I asked that parts of my cut were shorter than the photo. Opinions afterwards have been unanimous. Not a single person thinks my cut looks like the photo. Not. a. one. The hair cut Ronnie gave me is not intrinsically bad, but this review gets one star because this cut is absolutely not what I asked for, despite my attempts at intervention. Ronnie is a very friendly guy, and I'm sure he means well. However, I can't imagine myself coming back here again or recommending it to anyone based on this experience. read more

I have to say it was a quite uncomfortable experience by Kevin today. Not only because of the haircut, but also his rudeness. I used to be there for one year, and the experience was quite ok. But today was just a nightmare. It seemed like Kevin was not concentrated and patient today. After a poor haircut (which was far from my previous experience), I pointed out that it was too short for me. But he kept saying that: "There is nothing I can do, it is already too short. It is the problem of your hair, not me." I was so disappointed but still asked him to wash my hair. But he was so impatient that he threw his combs away and pissed off. I've never seen a barber can treat his customers like this. And when paying the money, he told me there was no student discount anymore. I suspect that is why he was rude to the student. I really didn't care much about the discount, but the attitude. Actually I always pay generous tips. Hope Kevin can provide a better service. But I will never be there again. read more

I found this place when I landed in Boston for a friend's 30th birthday / reunion with friends from middle school. I hadn't had time, because of work, to fix my hair before leaving San Francisco, so I got to Boston looking and feeling terrible. I didn't have the patience or time to go my friend's place and then do my hair, and decided to just find a salon nearby while I waited for her to pick me up. A quick Yelp search brought me to Coop Hair Styling, and I'm so glad. I just needed a very tiny trim to the ends of my long, curly hair, and I asked Kevin to style it straight because I find that easier to manage when I'm away from home. He did just that, and I walked out with beautifully styled hair, ends neatly trimmed and some face-framing pieces angled near my jawline. Kevin's super-straightforward--you ask him for what you want and he delivers that. When I got there, he was finishing a guy's haircut and I was impressed by Kevin's attention to detail; the guy walked out looking very cute. The place is no-frills (which I'm all for-- keeps the costs low and keeps the focus on the actual service), so don't come here and expect to be pampered and petted, though Kevin is warm and friendly. This isn't like an Aveda salon, where they come out with tea and such. I think Kevin did a great job, and I now have a go-to place in Boston! Sweet. read more

My boyfriend had a terrible experience today. He asked for a basic cut (keeping the same style but shorter). But the barber shaved off the sides completely! 10 mins later he returned to the shop and confronted the barber, who actually denied screwing up. Kevin, the head barber stepped in to apologize and tried to fix the hair but it was beyond repair. We were not offered a refund. Would not recommend this place to anyone who has hair. read more

I took escalator downstairs from the COOP, and there it was in the corner. Although there were 2 persons waiting, there were two in -chairs and two barbers so they got to me quickly and did a fast clean business cut for me and it came out very nice. They gave attention to the lines around neck and ears especially well. The setting is nice, I like the red and white color scheme. Feels very clean overall atmosphere. They take appointment, but they encourage walk-in come any time, they are very fast. This is almost right on top of the Kendall Sq T stop on the MBTA Red Line so very easy to get to as i take the T to work usually. Then it's inside the COOP store, in the basement so one has to look for it. Temperature, although it was 90 degrees out here (July) it was nice and cool in the barbershop. Excellent service, wish they had windows but of course they are in the basement. Giving 5-stars because I was in and out so quickly yet they did a complete and very good hair cut for me. I've been a loyal customer to this shop for 3 years. Today I showed up 10 minutes late for my scheduled appointment and Kevin refused to cut my hair because "the next customer is very demanding and cannot wait, and your hair takes too long to cut." I explained that I had to walk over a mile from a different office to come in, which is why I was late, but still he refused. On several other occasions, Kevin complained about cutting my hair because it wasn't an "easy clipper job," even though I made sure to tip him well as a gesture of thanks. This is an extremely rude and inappropriate way to treat a loyal customer, and regardless of how skilled one might be at their job, I will no longer give this place my business and would like others to know about how poorly they treat their customers. read more
