We had DJ Phil as our wedding DJ and he CRUSHED IT! Phil kept in touch with my husband and I during our planning and really made sure to set the mood exactly how we wanted. He gave us music genre options for each part of our wedding to help guide us in the direction that we wanted. He was calm, cool, collected, funny, and so easy to get along with. If you want a DJ who disregards the "Must Play" list (I was told this was required by Bunn but apparently wasted hours of my life for no reason), can't follow basic instructions (from song selection to announcements/transitions), gives the mike to a drunk guest instead of the FOB for a speech after the MOH/BM spoke (my dad is still heartbroken his speech was overshadowed by the spectacle that was caused single-handedly by Russell) while claiming he was "caught in the middle" (of what?? Some drunk guest's word against the bride and groom and people paying you?), and slows down the dance floor so much by 9:30 that you're ready to leave your own wedding early along with half of the guests, then look no further! The list of what Russell did that made my wedding awkward, uncomfortable, and disappointing is long, and over two months later it still makes me cry to think about it, even as I sit here writing about it. However, I am also still very angry, and don't want another poor bride to have the same experience as me. Throughout the night, he made several announcements that were straight up awkward/we had specifically asked him not to make, had asked me what song I wanted to play when I reentered the reception after a dress change in our last consult meeting AND THEN PROCEEDED TO PLAY THE SONG WHILE I WAS GONE, then claimed "that's when it says to on the timeline" as if the bride's presence is not enough of a cue to play her entrance song. When I first encountered him at the venue, he greeted me with a hug, which was extremely uncomfortable for me because I in no way consented to that and personally prefer handshakes, but wasn't given the opportunity to voice that before his arms were around me. In my communications with him after the event all I was met with was excuses, condescension, and assurances that "lots of people" approached him to compliment the music throughout the night, so he still sees it as a success. If I could do it over again, I would've just had a friend push play on the playlist I spent over a year working on that Russell insulted and disregarded, that was filled with songs my husband and I loved and didn't get to hear at our wedding. In his final email to me he said "I think we ended it on a high note with everyone involved and I felt really good about that" and I am here to tell you that it ended on a high note for no one but him, and for my family he will remain the man who ruined a once-in-a -lifetime event. tl;dr: if you want excuses, condescension, poor execution, and Gen X beats and mixing, then Russell and Bunn DJ are the ones for you. read more

Our DJ, Mark McNally, was a highlight of our day. Several people came up to me throughout the reception to tell me that it was the best playlist they'd ever heard and what a great job he was doing. He kept things moving without feeling rushed and gave us a really nice mix of uptempo and slower songs. It's been almost 3 years since I got married but I still fondly recall our DJ from Joe Bunn DJ Company - Mel Manning. Even though Mel now has his own business, it's paramount to review him and the company at the time (September 2008). Not only did Mel listen to our requests, but he also helped craft a really great playlist that ensured that all of our guests were shakin' it on the dance floor. He didn't even bat an eye when I said I wanted to open up the dance floor to Guns 'n Roses Sweet Child O' Mine. That's service, folks. It was incredibly easy to get a hold of him when I had questions, choose our songs (including which songs we absolutely did NOT want to hear). And most importantly, he offered just enough entertainment to keep the party going all night long without the may-juh cheese antics that some DJs put forth. After a bad experience with another local DJ company, we were extremely relieved to find Mitch with the Joe Bunn DJ Company. Mitch was incredibly professional and accommodating throughout the whole experience and did a great job incorporating my requests and those of my mom. We didn't want a showboat for a DJ, we simply wanted our guests to have a great time and for things to run smoothly. Poor Greg is probably still inwardly scarred at having to witness our wedding troop of whities massacre Soulja Boy (heck, we even managed to botch the white-persons anthem, the Electric Slide! Zero uniformity!). Even though Joe Bunn DJ has a hefty roster, we had no trouble winnowing it down to Greg Ramsey. The many blurbs and accolades on his bio page are testament to the care he gives each gig. And from our first meeting, we felt totally comfortable about our event. Greg took his time getting to know us, answering our questions, sharing colorful stories of wedding toasts gone wrong. Good music and a happy dance crowd was one of our top priorities and we definitely got that. Greg was polite and professional, a great MC, and he kept the dance floor busy all night. He also helped get us back on schedule even though the reception got started 30 minutes late throwing off our whole timeline! Great DJ and great company. Joe Bunn's online tools (create your play [and do not play] list, pulling from their huge database of music, and organize your reception schedule all online!) are exceptional. Mitch was amazing! He listened to every request we made - even some that were off the wall :). It was worth every penny - they aren't the cheapest DJ out there, but do you really want your wedding reception DJ'd by someone that is basically just using his iPod? Mitch made a great mix that kept the crowd of all ages dancing - including the 3 year old flower girl,my dad, and my bride's 86 year old grandmother! Up until the night of our reception I had never seen my dad dance! That night he was on the dance floor quite a bit and obviously having fun! Everyone had a blast. We had the great pleasure of having DJ Mark Toney for our wedding, and he was an absolute top-notch knockout DJ. Leading up to the wedding my main worry was dancing: I wanted a DJ who could mix, arrange a good playlist, and keep the energy going. I've been to too many weddings where the DJ isn't much better than an iPod plugged into speakers with a crossfade between songs. But Mark was incredible, not only in his ability to mix but how receptive he was to what was a pretty specific set of requests on my end: that the party start with more general music before shifting into 90s/00s hip hop, that the first dance end at a precise moment as it transitions into a specific first song, and so on. In addition to how great Mark is, Bunn DJ is a fantastic company, with excellent online services and an easy portal for choosing music and preparing for your day. At a time when the lowering cost of equipment and popularity of house music has convinced every joker he or she can break with the best, DJ Mark and Bunn are a breath of fresh air! read more

Randy Bennett was the DJ for our wedding in March 2010. He was terrific, all around. We met with him months in advance and hit it off well, so we decided to use him. In the months and weeks leading up to the ceremony, he was easily reachable and responsive via email to any question or concern we had. And at the wedding reception he brought the place down. Everyone is still talking about how much fun they had at our wedding. Some of our friends still call and say how their husbands cannot stop talking about how much fun they had. Aside from the alcohol, I think Randy was the biggest reason for that. His selection was perfect, well timed, and well executed. He was also a terrific MC. I've been to weddings where the music was good but the DJ did not do much to organize/announce/get the other non-music things going - Randy did it all perfectly. Could not have asked for a better DJ. I spent two weeks creating our must play Wedding list and he probably played a fourth of what I selected. Instead he played music he liked that most of my guests didn't know. I was so disappointed. Randy was a friendly, positive professional who made our wedding fun and memorable. Of all the weddings and events we have attended, he was truly the best DJ we've ever heard, so we were extremely appreciative that he agreed to play for our special day. Even before we met Randy in person, his brilliant reputation preceded him. When we told our wedding planner who our DJ was, she commented on how he was one of her favorites that plays for events she organizes. This made the phone meeting easy and Randy provided many insights into what music should be considered and how the reception should flow. Since was the first wedding in both of our immediate families, his expertise helped immensely. We had the dance floor filled for the entire night and many people commented on the wonderful musical selection.
