If you want the best burger in Ireland, you have to come to Bunsen. I was a little hesitant because the pictures seemed to have thicker burgers, but I prefer smash burgers. When we ordered, I got mine well done due to this and it was PERFECT and had yummy, crispy edges!! The more you have the burgers cooked, the thinner they are. The medium burgers were thicker than I would have liked, but the others really enjoyed theirs, as well. You also get a choice of thick cut or shoestring fries - shoestring are the way to go in my opinion. The waitress was really friendly and the place overall was very clean.
The Bunsen cheeseburger is done well! The meat is a nice pink medium (you can get it more well done as well), the bread nice and fluffy, and the sauce in the burger has the right amount of ketchup, mustard, and mayo. The lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle add a good mix of texture that enhances the cheeseburger. Sweet potato fries are hot with the right balance of crunchy and soft sweet potato texture. This is definitely my default burger place in Dublin. They offer a small menu, but they do every item perfectly!
If you're in Dublin and craving a burger, this is a good choice. If I had to compare Bunsen to a US burger chain, the meat has a similar texture and flavor to Smash Burger (that's a compliment, as far as I'm concerned). The menu is simple: burger with or without cheese, one patty or two. You can pick how much you want it cooked (I went with medium). It comes with condiments but you can remove them (no mayo!) The choice of fries are hand cut, shoe string or sweet potato. The hand cut were OK but not remarkable; very lightly salted. A big enough portion for two people. Sort drinks, beer and wine for drinks. Oddly the beer choices were american brands, not Irish ones. The milk shake on the next table looked tempting. You can pay by credit card. I would give the burger 4 stars but the French fries bring it down a notch
One of the best burgers I've had for awhile in terms of new food adventures of burgers! It was juicy, flavorful and simply delicious! Add the shoestring fries that makes you want more because it's so thin, that I was just stuffing my mouth with the entirety of everything! That was how bomb it was!
Incredible. Such a quaint place, with a small menu and everything is good. My brother compared the quality and taste to a smashburger, I think its better. If I lived here, I'd be going all the time. They have straight up burgers, where you can choose one patty or two, cheese or not, and do you want anything on it. They have a very small wine list, and a few craft bees including their own Bunsen, which was my personal favorite. Definitely worth the visit, I wish I could go all the time!

Simple execution without sacrificing quality, their menu is even on a business card. We were very hungry and thought about getting a double but we were glad we didn't! The single patty was fulfilling and when we saw the guy next to us get served a double, everyone was like holey moley that's big. The Bunsen beer wasn't bad either and they also had wine to offer. It would've been nice to go up to pay instead of waiting around for someone to come to us to speed things up but they only had one card reader. This is a good place to get a solid yummy burger.
I have this ranked as the second best burger I've ever had in my life. That's saying a lot! I've been all over the world and I love burgers. This one is well balanced with truly delicious and thick meat, perfectly melted cheese, lettuce, raw onion, and tomato. The bun is working hard to hold these ingredients together amidst the flowing juices from the tasty burger patties. Yes, I was bold that night and got the double cheeseburger. I took that burger down.... Down to Chinatown! My one and only complaint... I'd really like the option to get grilled onions instead of raw. Oh, and those hand cut fries. Wow. They are way up there with some of the best I've ever had. Just go here, roll up your sleeves, and dig into one of the best burgers you'll ever find on this, or any other, planet.
When traveling we always try to eat the local cuisine. Ireland is known for its grass fed high quality beef among other things. During our research before we left we saw a video talking about Bunsen. Just seeing the high quality of the ingredients made it one of our must try stops in Dublin. As we do when traveling, we start and end the day eating throughout the day. We popped into Bunsen to finally try the legendary burger around 4:30 pm. Because we were there at such an odd hour, we were the only people there. When you visit Ireland, the pub culture is real and most pubs start to get quite busy around 5:30 pm. Since Bunsen isn't a pub and wasn't located in a particularly touristy area , it didn't surprise me they were empty at that time of day. What stuck out the most at first was the super friendly service right from the door. We were sat at a small banquet of tables against the wall and checked out the menu from QR code link on the table. We were there for their original burger so that is what we ordered. No sides and water to drink. I couldn't be filling up too much yet. It was pretty early after all and we had a lot of places to stop yet. The menu isn't huge. They focus on doing one thing well and keep it at that. I like a restaurant that doesn't try to be everything. Our burger came out within 10 min and it was juicy, hot and fresh. Presented beautifully wrapped. We shared this one burger because, we knew we had lots of food to eat later. Immediately after eating the last bite I wanted to order another. It was really that good. Such perfection! This will be the burger I compare all others in Ireland to. read more

By far the best burger place in Dublin. They expanded, but still maintained their quality of using fresh Irish beef and fresh potatoes for their fries options. If you are in dublin, this is a must visit. Iconic burger stop! The burgers prices range between €8.75 - €12.65 depending on cheese and patties count. Toppings are all free Fries options range between €3.95 - €5.95, sweet potato fries being the most expensive. 10 out of 10 recommend!!! read more

Exactly what they claim. I'm a burger junky, so "best burger" is subjective. However, it's top notch by every standard. I wasn't aware, they do have beer and wine and an upstairs I missed. Close to another burger joint, so don't get confused. This is the real deal. read more

I'm from CA and I'm very lucky to have In-N-Out Burger a 5 minute drive from my house. CA's In-N-Out is a chain beloved by everyone who loves a good burger and for good reason. A limited menu that features only fresh ingredients while keeping the costs low - a #2 combo is worth less than $10 back home. Some Irish businessman was smart enough to hop across the pond all the way to the other side of the US, go to an In-N-Out and then come back to Ireland and try to replicate the In-N-Out recipe here. The result is Bunsen Burger and its similarity to the In-N-Out burger chain is the reason why everyone thinks it's the "best burger outside the US" or one of the best burgers in Europe. Despite being situated smack dab in the middle of Temple Bar, being an affordable option (a little more than €10) keeps the place busy. Meat: Black Aberdeen Angus supplied by FX Buckley. Minced fresh every morning Cheese: Comte/Jack blend Bun: Amish dinner roll supplied by Baker Derry in Tallaght. Fresh onion, lettuce, tomato. The exception is that this place serves alcohol. Menu fits on a business card. 4 burger choices, 3 fries (chips) After eating my fair share of seafood chowders, fish and chips and Indian curry I wanted to try something different. Yes I know it's burgers and I can easily get good burgers back home, but claiming your burger is similar to CA's In-N-Out is quite a pull for a CA gal to try the burger and see if it matches up to her beloved burger chain back home. My cheeseburger (€7.45), shoestring fries (€2.95) and can soda (€1.95) amounted to €12.35. In retrospective this is pricier than In-N-Out's #1 combo. But I'm gonna have to agree with these folks in that the burger is comparable to In-N-Out and this is coming from a person who's lucky enough to have plenty of experiences eating at In-N-Outs all over CA. The meat quality is definitely better as FX Buckley is a renowned steakhouse in Ireland. Cheese is just as good and melts better. Bun is of comparable quality, just needs to be toasted a bit more. Shoestring fries have more flavor as the standard option and I don't need to improve the flavor by having them well-done (as is my standard fry order at In-N-Out) I would definitely recommend this for a good cheap meal if you're tired of Indian, kebabs, pizza or pub grub and want something different and are nowhere near an In-N-Out back in the US. This is a perfect example of when the "less is more" philosophy works when it comes to food. When it comes to fewer ingredients you can easily perfect a recipe through its core components. read more

(4.5 stars) The burgers are the real deal. Double cheeseburger, medium, no toppings. Anything added on would just distract from the wonder in its ability to be great while also being so simple. If I had one of these near me, would totally be a regular in each week. The only disappointing thing were the regular French fries which were mushy, though the sweet potato were fries were lovely and crisp. read more

After waiting an exorbitant amount of time during my most recent visit (post-lunch hour) for a simple "take-away" burger and fries, I decided to give this place another chance. After all, the burger was decent (the soggy fries, however, were not). This time, I decided just to sit in during a late lunch break (3:30 pm) between study sessions. The dim interior lighting (first floor), thrumming BG music, and the din of constant chatter from nearby tables give a casual feel. Tables on the ground floor are a bit crowded together--an attempt at maximising the limited real estate of city centre. By the time my burger arrived, I had finished reviewing most of the flash cards I made during my morning study session. The burger was quite sizable, mainly due to the meat patties. The patties are cooked to order, which is the most likely explanation for the long wait, and seem to be of good quality. But perhaps, that is the only redeeming factor. The buns were passingly mediocre and there was nothing special about the sauce dressing. This time, I got the shoestring fries which were average, at best. The menu selection is limited: essentially, you can get a hamburger or cheeseburger, single or double patty. Nothing else is really worth mentioning. Bunsen is like a half-hearted mishmash of In-N-Out and Counter Burger--a decent attempt, but failing to pull through. Side note: they don't split the bill (in case you're bringing a group). read more

Welcome to the first review of South Anne's st. Bunsen. I am a big fan of Bunsen, from Wexford St to Temple bar, wherever they go, I follow. So South Anne's St opened on Saturday and I believe there were free burgers on the opening day - sad that I missed it. I was due to meet folks for a Monday night tipple and decided to line my stomach before, I had options and it was between noodles and Bunsen and as you know, I chose Bunsen. It was very busy for a Monday night, some folks were turned away after me but I got a seat and got me some sweet potato fries. They were as delicious as expected, cheap as chips (excuse the pun) and simply the best sweet potato fries in Dublin - ahoy!!! I was a big fan of kitchen and was gutted when they closed down for renovations (great Sunday brunch options) but I am delighted with the new tenants and will be back. read more

Amazing burger place. Normally I wouldn't catch a burger joint with so many great restaurants in the area but the raves had it! A simple menu like In and Out in California but small and intimate with really nice big burgers with top grade Irish beef and minimal bun. Big juicy and simply adorned, the menu fits on a business card. Be prepared to wait! This place gets crowded. Ironically it kicks the prettier burger joint next door's butt, but tourists are drawn to shiny objects. Do not be fooled! read more

I had heard great reviews about Bunsen so I was excited when they opened on South Anne Street. I was with a group of 10 so we had to sit outside for them to accommodate us as there isn't ample space indoors. It didn't bother me as it was a nice sunny day. A burger is your only option here and there is a choice of a few different types of fries. I got the cheeseburger with chips and it was the most delicious, succulent burger I've ever had in my life. It was cooked to perfection. Basically if you're in the mood for a relatively priced meal and you love burgers, this is the only place to go. read more
