We had to wait a very long time for sub par food. They seemed to be short staffed. Our waitress was fine, but she had so many tables and everything took so long. The atmosphere outside seemed fun if you were just going to have a drink. Highly recommend NOT ordering the buffalo chicken dip. When it did finally arrive, it had absolutely no flavor. The BLT is to die for. I'm a BLT but like I am about tabasco sauce. The service is exceptional and fast. The music was just right for the beautiful night air. The atmosphere is really a local feel. After a very hot day at the lake, we went to Buoys for a late lunch. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was really good. We had the wings, a quesadilla, and very good fries. They give you a squeeze bottle of ranch which is always helpful. read more

Dock and dine is fun and convenient but the food is below average. Bags of salad dressing, marinara in a premade cup and very little shade seating in a warm environment. The cocktails were weak but the service was fast. read more

Well if I have ate here once I've ate here 50 times in the last few years. All other 49 times were fantastic. This time they failed in every aspect a restaurant could. Came in to order take out, sat at the bar. The server literally had the look of disdain and would not make eye contact with me. After about 10 minutes finally the actual bartender came back. She takes two other orders from patrons that just literally sat down. Starting to become irritated, finally comes over no menu. Asked for a drink, made it wrong. In the past the staff had always been extremely friendly and accommodating, not these two women that had a defined upside down smile. Ordered takeout, came out in a reasonable time. The next part is probably on me. I left without checking my order. Since they couldn't get anything else right I should have checked. Get home, my wife's order was good and as ordered. Mine is- opps, they forgot to add the chicken. It's on the receipt clearly the cook decided I didn't need any. Also the portion size has been cut by 50%. Called but would not answer the phone. So let's recap- not welcomed, not acknowledged, screwed up my simple cocktail, forgot the main ingredient in my lunch, can't even get in touch to say hey it's on the receipt just not on the entree. Failure across every step. Capitalism is great I vote with my dollar, they will never see another dime. Save yourself some frustrations, just drive to Roxboro. It's as though the relatively new ownership 2-3 years ago is allowing the same fate as the failure before. Disappointing to spend $40 bucks on take out and you have to end up eating a bologna sandwich I could have ate in my PJ's never leaving home. read more

My wife and stopped in for lunch around 2pm on a Sunday with our dog and asked if we could sit on the porch facing the water. The waitress, who appeared to be the only one working greeted my wife and said we could take our dog on the patio. The patio though is fenced off and the only way you can get to it is by walking through the restaurant. I had to pick our dog up and lift her over 3.5 foot fence which I didn't mind but I know some people would. The service was surprising quick for how busy the restaurant was and the appearance of being short staffed. I had a couple draft beers for $3.75 a piece. We split the tator tots, which were not your normal tots. These were tots on steroids with bacon and cheese stuffed in them. A nice change from the traditional tots you can get. I had the banh mi sandwich with a side salad which they allowed me to substitute for their "McDonald's" described fries. The pork meat was tasty and the slaw topping was nice and crunchy on a ciabatta roll. My wife had a the the short rib sandwich on a pretzel bun. The horseradish sauce had a little kick which we liked. Other reviews complained about prices of food. You can tell the Bouys took that feedback because they crossed out their old prices and wrote in new, lower ones. I found the prices to be reasonable. Prior to leaving, the chef came out and checked to make sure everything was good which I found to be a very hospitable way to treat patrons. We definitely plan on stopping in in the future read more

Had lunch at Buoys this Tues. we are from NJ and were staying at the lake for a few days. Did not think much of the place prior to trying it out. The atmosphere was my cup of tea... sports on the TV and country music on the speakers. Food was surprisingly very good (much better then I expected). Our server was very attentive and welcoming as can be. Think I would be a regular if I lived near by but hope to revisit in the near future. read more

We are Traveling with our son and wanted to only eat at non chain restaurants this was a major disappointment we ordered 4 hotdogs and a burger The hotdogs were to be served with fries so what the burger we did not get the fries for the hotdogs until we asked the waitress she seems confused about everything she wasn't friendly being that we were literally the only African American ppl in the building or on the property for that matter I feel like they could have been a tab more welcoming everyone just kind of looked at us like we were aliens needless to say we will never return we are with a basketball travel team stay a few miles from here we come every month was looking for a place to have adult time but this def won't be it read more

A much-improved dining experience from prior establishments at this location, Buoys on Hyco was a great spot for a quick and delicious lunch by the lake. The burger on the pretzel bun was very meaty and delicious as was the BBQ chicken we ordered. The homemade potato chips were very addictive and warm when served. The service was great and our waitress was prompt with drink refills as we watched the boats go by on the water from our outdoor table. The new executive chef Joe stopped by our table and described some new and delicious-looking items he was working on for the summer menu. If you haven't been to this location in awhile the new place is worth a retry. We will be back. read more

Stopped in to meet some friends yesterday and the place was fairly busy at 5 pm. There is plenty of wait staff and a live band out on the patio playing way too loud for such a small venue. I went out and tried to endure the decibels but went back in the air-conditioned dining room. I looked at a menu my friendly waitress, Morgan, brought me. OMG! Hamburgers were $14 and the fried fish sandwich was $14, also. I've dined all over the country, including Manhatten, and these prices were higher than Bill's Burger Bar in NYC. And this Buoy's is in a small, rural lake community. So, Morgan brings my fish sandwich and fries. It was lot of fries and a big oversized hoagie roll with about a 5 oz. fried filet hiding inside, unseasoned and undressed without any expected tartar sauce. The roll was way too big and doughy and overwhelmed the fish. I was expecting a huge whiting filet hanging out of a fresh hamburger bun. No cole slaw, either! I asked about the tartar sauce for the dry sandwich and was informed, sorry, that they forgot to make it! Uh, not good kitchen management! Your cafe is right on the water and you have one fish item and you don't have tartar sauce. Marone! So, I ate the thing, drank my $3 diet coke and left mumbling to myself. Buoy's is the only food joint in that certain area and maybe they think they can get away with the price gouging. Maybe, they have a higher-priced menu when a band is playing to cover their entertainment costs. I don't know. If they do, let the customer know. But, I do know I felt very ripped-off walking out of there spending $22.00 for a pitiful sandwich. read more

Don't do it! We came to hear the music and have what we expected to be a nice dinner, my daughter ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. The salad, (which was $6.00, shrimp was $6.00 extra!) Came out on a plate you would put a side salad on!! I'm gonna pay $12.00 for 3 shrimp and a bit of lettuce? The rest of the table ordered shrimp tacos, the xss $9.00 special. They came out with 2 shrimp per tortilla with a strange red cabbage and so much spicy red sauce that it made it hard to eat! I basically ate the 6 shrimp and the handful of "fries" I had to pay extra for, and left the rest. Very disappointed, service was ok, had to ask for things. Loved the live music!!
