An unassuming brewery that puts quality beer over fancy decor. It's located in a big warehouse-like building, obviously because its primary purpose is to make beer. it has a little bar you can sit at that holds maybe 10 people, with plenty of other picnic table seating. I was there during happy hour (thursday 3-6 i believe it was) and pints are only $3! They had a variety of styles to choose from, although sadly there were out of a few. They have a black cat that hangs out there and customers had a dog or two inside. everyone got along fine. i was also sad that they don't have the soccer/bowling thing that they used to have. bartenders were friendly and helpful.

We came here on a weeknight, and it was a chill vibe. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. It was our first time, so we ordered the flight to taste a variety of beers, along with a Lily Sunrise cocktail. They did not have any sours, but their other beers were solid. - Lily fruit ale: this was my favorite. It is a fruit ale, so slightly sweet but not overpowering - High octane: this one is 8% but did not taste like it! - Hoppen-daz mango: slightly sweet and not super hoppy which I like - Big tree DIPA: standard DIPA, bold flavor - Lily sunrise cocktail: almost tasted like cocoa! You cannot taste the vodka at all. Really good cocktail overall

Great drinks, atmosphere, and friendly staff. Some even come sit with you at the table! 10/10. Good kitty!

Visited this brewery with a work outing and all I can say is I was impressed with the owner-Craig and Dan. Being from a larger city, this brewery is going in the right direction. Worth the drive as the location is off the beaten path and huge facility for private party's and would be a great venue for weddings. They are exceptional on explaining the craft process and conducted a fantastic tour. The beer was excellent and a large wide range of flavors for anyone. I loved the BigTree as I am an IPA girl.

One of the first breweries we have visited while being in Missouri and we love it here. It's kids friendly and the guy working is very outgoing. You can try anything on tap and there is cans available of anything you like. They will also fill a growler of you want to. I love the moccachino and the clydes cream ale they have on tap. Mix those together in a growler and you have a dessert for the next couple of day's . We ordered a pizza big enough for 5 people but they also have burgers on a separate menu. It looks like they are dog friendly as well! One of our favorite places in Columbia.

Great brews. They have the best idea ever - soccer pool Great service and good environment. Large area in the back for tours and private parties. Quality drinks.

I've had Bur Oak beer in the past and always been satisfied, but we visited the tap room/brewery for the first time for a special event featuring live music in the brewery and food from a local restaurant. While the location is a bit off the beaten path, it was worth the extra few minutes. The taproom was small but a great place to enjoy a casual drink or two away from the usual crowd. The beer itself was delicious. I tried one of their limited release beers, the Lily Ale, and loved it. It was fruity and floral, which speaks to my tastes. The other beers we ordered were the Boone County Brown and Trail Bender Wheat, which are solid Bur Oak staples. The Boone County Brown is very easy to drink for a dark beer, and the Trail Bender has a little something different going on for a wheat. I will continue to drink Bur Oak beer, and plan to return to the tap room for drinks in the near future, or (hopefully) for another cool event.

Came here for the Savory Summer kickoff hosted by Bur Oak Brewing. It was a fantastic event. I think Bur Oak did a fine job with it. There was plenty of room despite the large crowd. It was very warm, but it is mid June in Missouri. You should expect it. I enjoyed the industrious look it had in the large room. The beer on tap was cold and delicious. I would love to go back to a tasting of all thier beers. The venus is available for rent.

Recently visited Columbia with several friends, and thanks to Yelp discovered Bur Oak. We arrived on Saturday afternoon, shortly after they had opened the taproom, and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome by the friendly, and extremely knowledgeable, bartender, Paul. Seriously Paul was an awesome host, and after he discovered that this was our first visit he gave us an amazing overview of all their available beers. I would be lying if I said that I knew which beer I wanted, so instead we started off with two flights of 4, which allowed us to sample all their available beers before deciding on one. While I liked all of the beers, I have to say that I really enjoyed the DarkStar, which is a classic German Kolsch ale, with a mild caramel nuttiness delivered in a darker beer that goes down easy. It wasn't easy to pick just one beer, because the Boone County Brown was a top pick too, as it this Brown Ale had subtle hints of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and a slight caramel backdrop that resulted in great tasting beer. However my most favorite had to be the Barrel Aged Clyde's, which was their Clyde's Caramel Cream Ale aged in whiskey barrels. However don't be disappointed if the Barrel Aged Clyde's isn't available as its non-barrel-aged twin, Clyde's Caramel Cream Ale, is also available and delivers a smooth creamy finish with hints of caramel and vanilla, and is almost as good. However don't let my favorites keep you from trying all of their other amazing beers, trust me you will not be disappointed. While not available year round, be sure to try Lily, which is an easily drinkable wheat beer, with hints of orange, raspberry, and even lavender. I will say that after two flights, I immediately knew that Bur Oak has earned its way into my top 4 list of breweries visited, which is currently sitting at about 55, and I have no doubt they will continue to stay there too! As far as the inside goes, it is cozy however you are free to venture into the brewing area however you will have to stay away from the equipment. Be sure to check the calendar as they often host events here too, unfortunately, we were unable to stay later into the evening for that night's mouse races, and yes it's just like it sounds. Before we left we were lucky enough to spend a few minutes talking with the owner, Kraig, who was just as awesome as Paul (who was currently giving brewery tours). We talked about beers and learned a bit about the brewery's history and their new brewmaster. Overall this was an awesome visit, filled with great beer, quality conversation with an amazing staff who really love their beer and it really does show. If you are in the area, I cannot recommend stopping into Bur Oak enough. I know that I will be back next time I am in town!

Solid beers. Not the same ole lineup of craft beers. Good selection for every palate. Friendly/courteous staff.

Very friendly staff. They had no heavy beers with the brown being their darkest. Nice tap room, but a little remote to draw the local crowd.

However you're in the middle of Missouri where grapes don't generate like traditional regions, and palettes are different. So if you're familiar with wineries and good wine this will be quaint but not your place. This is more of an event space with wine as an afterthought as evidenced by the gaggle of sororities and moms funneling in all day. Frankly, I was appalled at the event I attended for my daughters sorority. Everyone bought a $25 bottle of sweet or semi-sweet wine (that's this wineries specialty), dropped in a straw, and suckled their sippy cups. Their sweet wines are like wine coolers - and what college student doesn't like those? That should give context to the quality of wine and positioning of this space). Their traditional varietals all have sweet or fruit forward notes - Cabs are more like Pinots but lacking the depth and notes of a true spicy, bold cab. Past this, parking is like a festival, down a dirt road about a quarter mile walk from the front door. While I wouldn't return, it's a great place for an event and provides something unique to the area. And obviously the Greek system utilizes as a more sophisticated approach to the bars in Columbia.
