Returning from Washington, MO. with rush hour approaching into Kansas City we diverted to Rocheport off 1-70 heading west until you notice Le Bourgeois vineyards with the A-Frame tasting room entrance sign. There's a large parking with a slight downward grade to the wine garden with numerous seating levels along the Missouri River. I went here today for my friends birthday and we are all of age. They were scanning our IDs and their machine wasn't working properly. The manager then was questioning my friend about her ID, which is completely normal besides the fact the first question she asked was her weight... Submitted a request on the website for information regarding having a small elopement style wedding at the bistro through their online inquiry for weddings. Email 5/17 included for your consideration. Tara sent over a pricing guide and also an event menu with pricing.( relevant parts included, note the pictures of weddings in the pricing guide) My fiancé and I followed up on the email and said we would like to move forward for June over the phone and she asked for us to text to follow up with details. We did so on the 22nd and didn't get anything despite following up and at 7 pm today 5/28 when we called to see what was up and why we had not gotten anything from them they sent a separate pricing guide and was told it will be thousands of dollars more than originally quoted. They offered a bottle of wine for the "confusion". Attached is a copy of the email with the original pricing from the 22nd and then also the new pricing. The price increased $2,000 from when I originally put in an inquiry for a wedding on 5/17 and when she got around to responding to our follow ups on 5/28. This is one of my favorite wineries in Missouri. We stopped here on our way to Hermann. We went to lunch at the Bistro first. I had the shrimp tacos with the side Greek salad and my fiancée had the Italian sandwich with the Greek salad. The salads were delicious and fresh. The entrees were huge portions. My fiancée couldn't even finish half of his sandwich! The server was very attentive too. After lunch we went to the tasting room. We did the 8 wine tasting sample which comes with a complimentary wine glass. The staff was very friendly. I really liked the wines- they were not too sweet at all! We visited the tasting room on a rainy Saturday to celebrate my friend's bachelorette. The ladies in the tasting room could not have been nicer or more attentive! Les Bourgeois is not currently offering wine tastings due to COVID, but they do have wine flights and limited indoor seating (masks required). We were given a list of all their wines, and they took the time to go through the list to explain them to us since they weren't very busy. After bringing out our wine flights and some crackers/water for the table, they surprised us with a complimentary toast for everyone of their Brut champagne! One of the most beautiful views in middle Missouri, straight up. I've ridden through here, and finally decided to hike up the bluff and check it out and we all came away impressed. For starters, there are two big spaces here, one that is an informal A-Frame with picnic baskets, live music, and feels a bit like a summer camp. That's what we checked out and I'll dig into in a sec. The other is the Blufftop Bistro which is more of a formal, slightly upscale restaurant and looks like a nice space overall, but I haven't experienced it yet. The A-Frame has picnic tables and all outdoor seating, so when the weather is nice, this is a super chill spot to hang out. They have several bottles from the vineyard, some local brews on tap, and then a handful of sandwiches, BBQ plates, cheese plates, hummus... lunch-like shareables. We found everyone here to be super friendly, and the whole ordering process to be a cinch. With our toddler in tow, we were doing an early dinner and it worked out beautifully; a midsummer night with the (very full) river rushing by below, chilled rosé, turkey sandwiches, cheese & fruit and some live music. I'm no wine connoisseur, but we enjoyed the dry rosé and thought it was better than anticipated. The music was a miss as they were having technical difficulties on this night, but I'm not sure they were all that good to begin with if I'm being honest. Bummer because my kiddo kept saying, "I want to dance!" but it's tough to dance to reverb and bad timing. This whole area is scenic and can make you think you're somewhere other than Missouri (no offense to my current home state, but, ya know). If you're in Rocheport for any reason, you gotta check this spot out and enjoy the relaxing setting. read more

Great location with a scenic bluff setting overlooking the Missouri river. One of the few wineries around Columbia, Missouri and the combination of location and lack of competition jack's up their prices without the justification based on quality. If I'm in the area I'd likely return, I'd probably just for a few drinks, then I'd return to Columbia for a better meal. The grounds and restaurant could be more refined and it's minor but significant changes needed to bump up their reviews. The vineyard where everyone goes! My friend and I ordered a glass of wine each. The cheese plate consisted of square slices of cheddar, swiss, provolone, and one other, as well as some crackers. We also ordered the pretzel plate, which had two mini (palm-size) pretzels with about one salt shaker full of salt on each and a dipping sauce. There's a $3 deposit on the glasses, which when you return will get the deposit in cash, even if you paid via credit card. There is so much patio seating, you won't have any difficulty finding a spot to sit on one of their many benches. There are also two private event areas. All areas are tiered so wherever you sit you'll have a good view. And boy, the views of the MIssouri River were spectacular! And the eastern winds make this a perfect place to hang out, relax, and enjoy time with friends. The parking lot is hilly and sloped and has paved and unpaved areas, so expect your tires to get a workout. There was no issue with finding parking close to the vineyard. The place is also decorated for the fall, which was nice to see all the pumpkins and decor. There are outhouse style restrooms with actual toilets. The men's restroom was surprisingly squeaky clean At the space closest to the water there's one of those large binocular viewing machines that is free (no quarters necessary!). read more

For reference I am 22 years and was recently here with my mother with my sorority and multiple parents were bearded and called names involving profanity which in my opinion is completely unprofessional especially when this business is funded by parents and older customers. When you have a business within a college town you should be aware and accepting of college students when they are providing business. For both quality of wine and quality of venue Les Bourgeois is my favorite winery in Missouri. The Blufftop Bistro at Les Bourgeois offers an enjoyable dinning experience and sweeping views of the Missouri River. Their flights of wine are a fun way to sample a wide variety of the vineyard's selection, and their dinner and lunch are both quite good. While you're relaxing in the bistro you might even have the opportunity to witness a wedding ceremony at the winery's perfect bluff-top venue. The A-Frame is located steps away from the bistro and offers a much more casual outdoor venue, with the same incredible views of the Missouri River Valley below. You can order any of the Les Bourgeois wines, as well as picnic baskets of cheese or charcuterie boards to enjoy at one of the many outdoor picnic tables. They also often have live music, making it an excellent place for a relaxing afternoon with friends. If neither of these venues suit your fancy, they also have a third venue located just down the road. This is where the wine is actually produced, and the facility you can tour to witness the process. They also have a front store where you can relax with a glass or bottle of wine as well. I am a white wine drinker myself, and recommend their Solay for a drier option. It is my personal favorite of their wines, but the Vignoles is also great for a slightly sweeter, but very refreshing option. For those who believe you need to travel to Napa Valley to find beautiful vineyards or quality wine, I challenge you to think again. Aside from Les Bourgeois, Missouri has dozens of excellent and beautiful vineyards that compete nationally and internationally with the better known options of Napa. From Augusta, to Herman, to Rocheport, there are some excellent options well worth visiting and Les Bourgeois is one of them. read more

This winery used to be amazing! I have visited it for at least 25 years. We came for a visit today and apparently regulations have changed and they do not allow outside food even though they have a very limited menu. They were carding individuals at the top of the hill, which is fine, and checking bags and purses for food items. And the "bouncer" was quite rude. The winery is really cute and has amazing views. If you are down in this area, you absolutely need to stop by this winery! They also run a restaurant a mile or so down the road that is phenomenal. We were able to do a winetasting and the gal who was running our wine tasting was very helpful in figuring out which wines we might enjoy. The bottles of wine were very affordable as well. Not sure why this place only had 3 stars. We popped in here on a Monday after a warm springs ranch tour. We sampled their wines and liquor. The liquor is VERY strong! I liked all the wines we tried and bought a case (you get 25% off). The manager, Grace, was super nice and friendly! The only downside is that they were out of their picnic baskets and their main restaurant was closed on Monday so we had to drive down the street to their A-frame. We biked the Katy Trail from the MKT/McBaine trailhead to the winery and it was such a great trip! The trail leads you to a bluff entrance. There is bike parking at the bottom but seeing as we weren't sure what we were getting into, we took our bikes up the ridge with us. At the top, to the left is the Blufftop Bistro and to the right is the winery. The winery was packed but there is tons of seating options. We ordered a snack and a bottle from the A-Frame and settled in to people watch and listen to the music. Only complaint I have is that we are big wine slushie fans, so many people raved about them, but they only have one machine and it wasn't there. The pretzels came out hot and fresh while we were still getting our wine order in and our bottle of Riverboat Red was just what the dr ordered! We did drive back over the next day and enjoy another bottle while in the area and enjoyed the selection we got of that as well. Definitely adding this to one of our favorite spots! read more

My family has been stopping here for many years on our way to see family in Illinois to have a snack and glass of wine. We pulled in today after hours on the road driving in the pouring rain and parked quickly on the side as close as we could get as I am pregnant and needed to use the restroom as soon as possible. Before we could even reach the door a man working inside came out and began verbally assaulting us screaming at my mother and I asking who we thought we were and where we came from to do something like that and how stupid we were (parking where we did) we apologized and apologized but he continued to berate us and then another female employee came out to yell at us as well. I can't believe we had to endure this and on Mother's Day. We left immediately and in tears and will not be coming back. What a horrible and traumatizing experience. read more

The picnic basket was very good with the exception of the apple, which was a Granny Smith, which is extremely tart and not our fave, but it was freshly cut and looked fine. The grapes, pita bread, salami, peperoni, crackers and cheeses were all very good. 4 Star! Since we shared the picnic basket, we thought we could get just a little bit more so we decided to get a bratwurst to share. It was awful...just mush. We couldn't eat it and just threw it away. 1 star. The view, band, and service were all very good...4 star. That means you're tasting local flavors, something you won't get off the truck. True, Missouri wines don't *always* stand up well to other areas of the world, but I was very happy with my first tastes of LBV wines, and that included two glasses of the Jeunette Rouge (first one is fine, I'll have another thank you...) to start with the three cheese appetizer (all local) and the American Red with my duck. Don't think the duck was sourced locally but the waitress did confirm the root vegetables that went with it were. Like: the fact that they anticipate a lot of casual and very tired customers that made their way here as a result of the Katy Trail. Myself, I'd hiked 16 miles that day then made the trek from my B&B in Rocheport (mile + away) on foot to catch sundown and dinner. The waitresses were friendly and kept the water glass full (thank you) for the guy in shorts, sneakers and a polo shirt. Treated me first class. Atmosphere: pleasant, romantic, grand... lots of window space to drink in the spectacular view. Come in time to watch the sun set. You won't be disappointed. Dessert: three bon bons in different sauces topped with a glass of surprisingly marvelous blackberry port. Stopped on the way out of town and picked up a bottle for home. And finally, how can you complain about the price? I had an appetizer with wine, another glass of the same, duck entree with root vegetables that was cooked to perfection (with another glass of wine) and dessert with a port wine. Expected over $100. Total bill: $70. Yes, they have a young staff and that can at times result in mixed service as is indicated by some of the reviews, but go with a good attitude, relax, and enjoy the time with someone special. How someone can get here and not have an exceptional experience alludes me. I had a marvelous time and will be back with family and friends. Marilyn was a good guide to these local wines when we came to the tasting room/gift shop. She shared tasting notes and fun stories about the origins of some of the unusual grape varietals. The guided tours are only available on weekends, but you can usually wander the production areas and cellar on your own. Say hi to the two cute kitties! The bistro, a mile up the road, is a nice place for lunch. The view is good, as is the food. Service was fine, if a little over-eager. The interior looks pretty, but a close look suggests it was built quickly--the main window appear to leak a bit in heavy rain. Your lunch receipt will get you 15% off bottles at the tasting room, or you can buy them to-go at higher prices but 20% off in the bistro. (Roughly equivalent cost in the end.) Overall, an unexpected and pleasant diversion on the drive from Kansas City to St. Louis. TRIVIA: Wine grapes are, not surprisingly, highly vulnerable to birds and critters when they are nearly ripe. On a Thursday night a friend of mine and I decided last minute to go try this place out and so we did. We got there at about 8pm (close at 9) and found they place not busy at all. Only 1 other large group was present. The both of us ordered the Osso Bucco which is a pork shoulder entree. It came with a basket of bread which was pretty dry if I say so myself. We were served fairy quickly and our server was very tentative besides forgetting to bring out my friends lemonade when my coke was brought out. Small issue. The entree was a good sized glazed pork shoulder, bone in, along with a bed of rice (the thick rice grains) and a cheese sauce of some kind which was quite good. It also had a small side of cooked collard greens as well which although good was gone in 2 bites. After removing the fat from the pork and separating the bone out there was maybe 7-8oz of meat on the shoulder which is much less then it looks when it comes out. I was certainly still full when finished but just letting people know its not ALL meat on that thing. The room was a little cold for my liking but not terrible. My friend also said it felt a little chilly in the room. The 2 dishes cost about 51 dollars combined which for what we got was high. Portions mostly. Taste was great. I feel as though a very similar meal for much less could be had at a steakhouse like Longhorns. Until I try more of their menu I cant say if this is true for all of their items. read more

Disclaimer: I'm probably a teensy bit partial to Les Bourgeois because my great-grandfather once owned the land it sits on. That said, I've never had a meal here I didn't love, and today was no exception. In fact, it was the best so far because we ordered cocktails and dessert as well as lunch. Mizzou homecoming weekend meant a 30 minute wait, so we stepped to the bar and ordered drinks from a list of artisan cocktails that's new since my last visit. My friend ordered a Pumpkin Spice martini that was creamy and delicious without being overly sweet. I gambled on the "Nor-hattan", the winery's riff on my favorite cocktail: Crown Royal, their Norton wine, Cinzano, and orange bitters. It was amazing! The wine softened the astringency of the bitters and vermouth without changing the character of the drink. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and salad. The roast pork stood was tender and flavorful with tart pickles made either in house or locally. The small salad was fine, but after a taste of my friend's, I was kicking myself for not getting the butternut squash soup. I fear squash anything for being sweet and mushy, but this stuff was incredible! It was completely savory, think cumin and other Mediterranean seasonings. We offered to pay the waiter off for the recipe but came away empty, dammit. Good stuff!, as was the dessert we couldn't resist-in essence a carrot cake parfait topped with an enormous gingersnap. Perfect for fall! It's a lot classier place than you'd think you'd find on the edge of a tiny town in central Missouri, and the service is always polished. The quality of the food isn't surprising when you see the list of farmers from the surrounding God's Country that they buy from. The restaurant sits on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River and the views, especially from a window table, are stunning. So maybe Missouri wine isn't Burgundy or Bordeaux, but I like Les Bourgeois Solay and Norton. You can buy it at the restaurant or at their gift shop as you head back to I-70 and home. As a starter my dining companion and I chose the Pork Belly and Shrimp Spring Rolls with sriracha mustard and an agradolce dipping sauce! Well, be still my heart! I am in love. My inner Goddess is caterwauling! Next up...the soup course: Braised pork stew with cavatelli and caraway creme fraiche. Once again, very tasty. I will say, though, that chef is a huge carnivore because the amount of pork could feed a family of 5. Last, but not least, the entrée. Hand rolled cavatelli with chorizo and peppers. Lovely pasta. Same enormous portion of chorizo! Now...this could be a selling point for some, but I prefer more veggies. All in all, a sumptuous lunch set in a beautiful setting. We had a long-awaited family gathering of 20 people for lunch at the Bistro on July 8, 2021. Everything about it was handled very well by Carrie, Front of House Manager, and her staff. She created a limited menu that satisfied everyone's food preferences and the food, including the suite of appetizers, was delicious and beautifully presented. Seating at two tables was well-spaced and separate from the other diners, so that we felt comfortable sharing memories and laughs. Carrie set up a "memories" table where we displayed old photos and scrapbooks. The view of the wide Missouri River was beautiful. The Bluff Bistro has other spaces for large gatherings.
