Parking was surprisingly easy, and once we got started, it was a block and a half of a good time. Now, we did not buy much, but we did enjoy seeing everything and talking to a few people. We were especially excited to buy fruit directly from the farmers! I got a bunch of peaches and nectarines, and let me say I have never in my life tasted such good fruit! I also tried the homemade strawberry & rhubarb pie, and bought the homemade honey with cinnamon. I also especially liked how the Farmer's Market overlooked Silver Beach. It was a nice time, and I look forward to going back before the Farmer's Market season ends this year! Whatever you're looking for, the St. Joe farmers market is a great summer staple that allows you to buy fresh food and enjoy the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan.  If you're here on a Saturday in the summer or early fall, I would definitely try to stop by.

This Market is a year-round affair, so you can get Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (FFV) during the summer and fall months right from local growers; in the off seasons they purchase out of state FFV and thus are still able to offer better produce than one usually finds in the big supermarkets. This particular Farmer's Market is enclosed - as it would have to be to be year-round in the Midwest. There are roughly 50 individual sellers in the entire setup - which is laid out as a pair of stacked boxes - the middle being washrooms and the like. All the stalls face inside in a double row ... the center portion of the boxes being where sellers can back up their trucks. There is a little diner restaurant on one side that offers a bunch of nice meals - breakfast food and when we were there pulled pork nachos (yum). There is also a bakery stall. They have parking on site, but it is just barely enough for the crowds the Market attracts. We liked this market because it really was mostly FFV and not a bunch of stalls selling candles and the like. There even are a couple of stalls selling meat - at least one fresh and one frozen. Give this place a try and you'll like it.

Boley Farm on 151st Street in Orland Park is now run by a new person who bought out the old operators, but he just seems to be getting up to speed and the selection wasn't as broad ... hence the search for a new stand ... and I think we found it in Just Picked. We stopped in at Just Picked on 171st Street in Tinley Park on a weekday and they had a very nice selection. We have driven by this place dozens of times over the years but never stopped in ... glad we did this time. While the selection looks relatively small as you drive by, once you stop in and look around you'll be more impressed with the variety and quality. This is an everyday kind of farm stand during the Summer and Fall, and the people running it were very nice. The owner (Tom) grows much of what is sold on his farm just outside Kankakee ... thus you get fresh, local-grown FFV everyday where the stock is refreshed daily. All the FFV ... and oftentimes flowers ... are presented outside under an awning ... the barn is for his work equipment and other stock. If you are in the market for a farm stand, you have to give this place a try.

This brand new Farmer's Market is a replacement for the old one that used to be at the Village Hall…read more(see https://www.yelp.com/biz/orland-park-farmers-market-orland-park?osq=farmers+market). This new Market has longer hours and a more expansive location to make it easier for people to attend. It is now located at the 143rd METRA Station in Orland Park...roughly one block west of LaGrange Road at 142nd Street. The Market is held on Thursdays only...from May 25 to August 31. Hours are from 4pm to 8pm. If you happened to be a METRA rider, you will find the Market as soon as you jump off the train at night. Besides adding some live entertainment at this location, the number of vendors is expected to grow substantially as customers find the site. Right now there are about two dozen vendors. The vendors are much like those that were visiting the old Farmer's Market, but this location will eventually attract many additional vendors. Food and food trucks, notions, candles, honey, fresh fruit and vegetables, and many Orland Park businesses are here. For example, the University of Chicago medical people are represented ... even more so because they have a new four story facility just a couple hundred feet away. This new Market is worth trying...it is just one more example of the Village trying to upgrade its offerings to the public. Recommended.
