After a short tractor ride to the fields, we started with the raspberries and were able to fill our container in about 20 minutes. We then moved on to the strawberry fields. After spending an hour and a half in blistering heat, I was only able to fill about one-quarter of the container because there were virtually no strawberries available. Everyone picking alongside us seemed equally disappointed and frustrated that containers were being sold despite the lack of fruit in the fields. What made the experience even more frustrating was the no-refund policy, which meant we were out the money regardless of the poor conditions. I understand that crop availability can vary, but customers should be informed when fields are nearly picked over or offered a refund or alternative. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend this place to others.

In terms of cost, it was $14 for a cute blue gallon bucket with a shoulder strap. You keep the bucket and take it home, then bring it back the next time you visit. I thought we'd need two, but filling up that single bucket took three leisurely pickers almost an hour. We ended up picking up another five pound box to go so we didn't feel too badly when we ate half of the berries we picked on the ride back to Chicago. We looked around for closer blueberry farms, but after finding this one, we'd gladly make the 90 min drive again.
