Wonderful little market. It's a lot bigger than you think and the prices are right. With soft live music weaving through the stalls, this place offers a relaxing atmosphere with a variety of venders. From "beyond organic" meat to fruit and vegetables and from different flavors of homemade pickles to food venders for both humans and dogs, there's literally something for every person and pet in your house. Also, there is a ton of parking. If you get here between 0900-0930, you'll have no issue getting a spot. Go, support your community, and get some good stuff for yourself. read more

Pleasantly surprised by how expansive this farmer's market is. Located at a Burke VRE station near the Guinea Road Target (the best one in the area if you ask me), this market has a lot of vendors selling produce, plants, desserts, specialty products, and even fresh bread. We managed to walk away with some fresh tomatoes and asparagus. We typically go to the Mosaic Farmer's Market, but I think this location has more actual produce to take home, as opposed to stands selling prepared food and more niche items like artisanal dog biscuits. I'm in it for the produce, so this was a welcome sight for me. Like the Mosaic market, they also offer composting! My only complaint is that this sale only runs from 8 am to 12 PM on Saturday. Seems like they could at least run until 1, and the short window of operation often clashes with Saturday yard sales, flea markets, and other activities. read more

Timing is everything. The Burke Farmers Market isn't always happening. Yet if it's on at the VRE station, I do like the people who work it. Most bring in foods, including vegetables and fruits from local farms. Also there are some bakers. These folks have some of the best breads. The carb counts are scary, but the flavors are delightful! It can be on the pricey side. Then again gas costs and inflation are real. Parking is a cinch, and I'd rather celebrate and support local hard working people. This is where they are from spring to fall. What you'll find depends on growing seasons of course. I hope the lady with the Granny Smith apples returns. Those are among the best. read more

Located in the VRE parking lot on Saturday mornings, the Burke Farmer's Market is a place you should not visit hungry. Unlike other markets in the area that have, for example, Hog Haven, slinging breakfast sandwiches, you won't find anything like that here. In fact, you'll be lucky if there is coffee, which there was none on my last visit. Instead you will find LOTS of fresh produce mostly. My favorite booths are Kiwi Cuisine (the pork green Chile pie is amazing!) and Great Harvest (love the Pumpkin chocolate chip bread). There's plenty of parking and I've never found it too crowded. Be aware that masks are optional and some people are choosing to not wear them. Overall, this is a good place to pick up produce, bread, etc. but make sure you have breakfast or brunch first before stopping over. read more

I've scoured various Farmers Markets all over NOVA from Alexandria to Purcellville. This one, oh so close to me, is one of my favorites! There is a nice parking structure right next to the market, along with outdoor parking next to the tents(if you get there early enough). The walk to the market tents is not very far. Some of these vendors also market to the ones in Annandale and other local markets. I like Burke's market because it's held on a Saturday morning. My favorite is the Great Harvest Bread tent. They pass out samples and the offer the same breads as the stores, so why not save a trip. Another one of our favorite tents is the 'pickle' tents. Yes, folks, come and taste all the pickles you want and if you are like my hubby, you'll walk away with a few jars. I also love the sausage and meat tents. The sausage tents had some mild italian sausage frying up in her little propane stove. Those were some of the freshest and tastiest sausages I have eaten in a long time. SO, yes, if you are like me, you will walk away with a rope(approx. 1 lb) of frozen sausage. I like that they freeze them so I don't have to worry about that fresh meat going bad in their travels or my travels. There are various farmers also there, and this past weekend, many of them had some fresh salad greens, zukes, plenty of herb plants, root veggies, and whatever seemed to be in season. It's not as huge as the Alexandria market but this market has a lot to offer. It's located right behind the Target off Robert's Road, and they open at 8:00AM. read more

I continue to frequent this market during the growing season. The productive period for vegetables is beginning. Lots of veggies are available. Corn and tomatoes are beginning to be available. This year there's a new stand selling pickles which I love. They have several varieties that are spicy. The habanero pickles are very spicy (maybe too spicy for me) but the jalapeño pickles are good. read more

This review is for the Burke Farmers Market, held on Saturday mornings in Burke, VA near the Fairfax 7900 Parkway. We have been going here for several years, and this year in July 2019 we have seen the largest grouping of vendors available. It is run by the Fairfax County Parks Authority and the better venue over the other choices we've seen in the county. Some vendors do not appear to be immediately local: from Maryland (seafood), DC (pickles, salsas, tamales), Pennsylvania (produce, meat), Delaware (meat), North Carolina (stone fruit), etc. The bread company is a local set up usually. Selection is pretty good - there is price variation among different vendors, sometimes right next to each other; so, look around. Example:1-pint blackberries $6 one vendor, straight across, $3 from another vendor. Can walk though this market is about 30 minutes and see all displays with your purchases. Some pre-made item(s) not produce-related. There is usually a guitar-crooning public performer at the entrance to the parking garage. CAUTION: near parking garage public walkway, congregates several sun-tented political activists who push literature and extreme views onto passers-by. If you are entertaining 'out-of-towners' it is bizarre appearing to be "touts" spewing 24/7 rhetoric! Hey, Fairfax County: this is NOT WHAT ANYONE WANTS TO SEE ON A WEEKEND AT A FARMERS MARKET. This is the big local farmers market. It doesn't have as much prepared food (though it does have some) as someplace like Mosaic, but it has tons of fresh produce, herbs, and flowers, along with two baked-good shops, a honey shop, a jam shop, and some others. There's plenty of parking, since the market is set up next to a large commuter garage. More and more vendors take credit cards as the years go by, until now I think it might be all of them. Many, many small children are here, but plenty of people without children as well. You do have to pass the political tent gauntlet on your way out of the garage, and the guy with his guitar caterwauling every week. read more

Would you believe I've been going to the Burke Farmers Marketing for over a decade - possibly two? I know - I'm showing my age on this review, but I take my grandkids and do they love it. It's hard not to - fresh produce, fruits the brightest color of crayons, fresh baked breads (yes, the smell is what sells it), and nice farmers and local stores from in and around Burke. I am very happy to have a local place like the Farmers Market to support local growers and businesses! Plus - the taste, oh my the taste of the produce sold here is unlike anything you can get at a grocery store! read more

This is one of the largest outdoor farmer's markets I have been to. The vendors place their produce on tables at the back of their parked trucks, and let me tell you-- there are MANY different vendors. If you are really thrifty, you will take several laps around before you make a decision on which items to buy. Sometimes vendor's prices vary significantly on the same item. And for the farmer's market in general, this one is a vegetarians dream. I have tried so many different vegetables for very cheap (I swear I have found 5 different kinds of eggplant and various different types of squash) and this farmers market is where I discovered my love of heirloom tomatoes! Also, there is a cheese stand (where you can try samples) and occasionally a milk and honey stand (if you buy the milk once you also pay for the jar, and if you bring the jar back you get it at a discounted price!) Definitely a fun way to spend the summer months. I wish it was open year round, however. read more

The Burke Farmers market is one of the best run by the Fairfax County Parks Authority. The have a great assortment of produce, meats, dairy and bread. There is a creamery, seafood, pickles, cheeses and fresh roasted coffee! The coffee vendor sells locally fresh roasted speciality coffees from around the world. They also have hot brewed coffee as well as regular and nitro cold brew coffee and hot chocolate. You need to spend your Saturday mornings here! read more

May 3 - October 25 in the VRE parking lot in Burke, next to the Target. To all my fellow suburbanites out there, this farmers market is great! It is definitely one of the larger farmer's markets in the area. They have several vendors selling produce, one selling meats, two vendors with different kinds of cheeses and yogurt, a lady selling baked goods, vendors with flowers and herbs, and probably other things I missed. Sometimes the vendors have different prices or items others don't have, so it pays to take a walk around and check everyone out before you decide on anything. A lot of the vendors will chat with you and give you insight to how their farm is run or tips on using a certain item. read more

LOVE this farmer's market. I've never hit any of the huge ones in DC, so my experience with FMs are Virginia-based only, and this is one is fantastic. Love that it's Saturday mornings, so you can get your fresh food for the week done Saturday morning and be done with it. All the vendors are super nice and friendly. I've never bought a piece of produce from a vendor that wasn't absolutly delicious. I wish I could remember the names of the vendors, but I like stopping at the bakery vendor at the enterence to snag scone to munch on while shopping around. There's one vendor that sells blackberries that are a tad expensive, but they ar ethe fattest, juicest, sweetest blackberries I've ever had. They tend to never make it into my fridge due to getting consumed on the drive home. The covered parking is EXCELLENT during the hot summer heat. As long as a fruit or veggie is in season, you'll defaintly be able to find it here. But they also have great other vendors -- the bakery (for breads and treats), the meat guys, the flower stall, the cheese ladies. It's a great place to spend a Saturday morning. read more

It's not bad, as farmers' markets go--and I'm not trying to damn with faint praise. There's a good assortment of semi-local produce stands with the typical veggie offerings from heirloom tomatoes to watermelon and jars of preserves. The thing that keeps us coming here are the Kiwi Cuisine pies and juices, the Salt & Water baguettes , the local creamery's milk and cheese, and the other oddball stands. read more

I've been coming here regularly for over a decade. Though I don't do most of the family shopping anymore, and have a garden which provides some of our veggies, I love to come here for supplemental fruit and vegetables, and to see familiar faces, both the sellers and neighbors. Parking can be painful during swim meet season due to the adjoining community pool. The garage is generally not designed for the constant in and out. Come at 8 for your best parking experience. The produce vendors in many ways overlap with 80% of their offerings. Chris, the white-haired guy who sells with his son-in-law, is notable for pecans, popcorn on the cob, lots of peas, and asparagus (all in season, of course). Glascock's are notable for heirloom tomato plants in the spring and the fruits themselves in summer; also peaches and apples. Spring Hill are kind of the produce rock stars with prices to match. Their appeal is largely their marketing and the attractiveness of the mom and the pop in the organization, though they do have consistently standout product as well. The other produce vendors each have their niches as well. The non-produce offerings include (currently) two bakeries specializing in bread, two meat vendors (one overly pricey, one underwhelming in quality IMO), a cheese booth and two other dairies with yogurt, butter, soft cheeses, and milk between them. Also flowers, plants, and a couple of cookie people. They all seem to have more turnover than the produce people, probably because this is less of a "tourist market" and more frequented by regulars who cook a lot, and want the freshest local produce to do so. All in all, the market is an important quality of life factor for me in an otherwise culturally challenging part of the area. (read: I still miss living in the city) read more

I live within walking distance of this market, so I go regularly. There aren't many vendors, but you could get your weekly shopping done here with the variety - produce, bread, dairy, meat, and treats (think bakery sweets and cake pops) are all represented here, though its a little too pricey for me to do it all. There are usually at least two vendors in each category. I tend to focus on the produce, which is way more delicious than what's been sitting around for days in the grocery stores and is totally worth it. Farmers are local, so products follow local growing seasons and availability. The tomatoes are a must in the later summer months. Pricing does vary among vendors but the place is small enough that you can comparison shop. One vendor sells a salad mix that has little yellow edible flowers mixed in, and I love that. Always puts a smile on my face to find a little flower in my salad. read more
